I dont even know where to start. I'm writing this after only 5 hours of gameplay so I havent even finished yet lol

Visually, the game is a masterpiece, there are games twice as expensive with massive developing teams that dont look half as good. Plus the soundtrack just matches every situation and mood. Many parts during the game I've gotten watery eyes just from the music and animation, EVEN WHEN NOTHING SAD IS HAPPENING!

Gameplay, very polished. Platformers might seem repetitive, but this game just keeps adding so many fun layers of movement and so many unique areas, plus the COMBAT is oddly fun. And the upgrade system for combat is very straightforward yet is quite balanced so you dont feel like you ever become "op" or the game becomes too "easy". With all the special areas on the map, the game has really good pacing of kinda making you go back a forth between areas to unlock new things or go back because you unlocked a new ability etc...Between the platforming and fighting its a perfect mixture of challenge and entertainment.

Story, again I still havent finished the game (I'd guess I'm about half way). The story really lifts your heart and makes you happy....while also taking a knife and twisting it right into your heart not long after. There isnt much to the characters themselves, but the game shows them in a way where you dont need words or explanations to appreciate them. So whenever something happens, whether good or bad, you REALLY feel it. You really feel the pain or the joy whenever it happens. (Of course, the beautiful soundtrack helps the emotions)

Overall, I love the game and would highly recommend it for the experience if not for the gameplay. I really hope they eventually make a 3rd one, even if it takes a few years!

I recently re-visited this game after not playing it for a couple years. My original review was positive with some reservations and I think after taking a break and after the game having a couple patches my enjoyment has increased dramatically. Let me explain my reasoning:

I think most people that hate this game are die hard DOW1 fans, which I am also so I understand their frustrations. There are some things that this game does poorly in comparison such as:
-only 3 factions so not much variety
-very new/different mechanics that are kinda meh such as the elite system and army doctrines
-story is a little weird here and there
-game feels both extremely balanced and unbalanced at the same time...and the multiplayer plays in a very strange way sometimes
-not a lot of stuff people were hoping for that exist in previous games

However, I think there are some very excellent things that this game has/does that do make it a fun game:
-The Orc missions are just incredibly funny to me. Whether I'm losing horribly, tryharding, or just playing the mission on easy its just a fun time.
-Despite the elite system being a bit goofy, it does make your hero units feel powerful. And lets be honest some of their abilities/animations are incredible
-The game does unite some of the good things that DOW1 and 2 did, and it feels like a fairly decent combination of the two. It plays a little more into the casual side of players, (which some people dislike I understand).
-I actually really like the campaign after replaying it again. A lot of people critique the story for being a little cliche, but I think that's perfectly fine. There are a lot of cool missions with some twists and turns, plus I think the dialogue is actually pretty good. Just wish the ending had a little more

Overall, I think the "mixed" review status is a bit unfair. The Game would probably be just fine if it wasnt in constant comparison with the previous two games. The $40 price tag is a bit much for what its worth, so I would wait for a sale, but give the game a few hours and you may end up putting around 70 like me. It may not be the best but its still fun!
