A chill zombie team work game that is fun and does not need a powerful PC.

The Bad: I have had seldom crashes trying to join a server (I have sent crash reports, but never contacted support; being seldom and tolerable), there is a loot system and a class system.

The Meh: Still, one can play solo online to get achievements or gain rank, even during events.

The Foo: it is an enjoyable team survival game; Especially when you join a team that clicks.

First and foremost, it is modifiable with Steam Workshop or third-party mods. There are hundreds of mods in categories of accessories, trucks/vehicles, paints, maps, etc. that one could explore, either using the Workshop or third-party websites.

Next, SCS has been updating this game with new content, features and fixes on a semi-yearly basis since release. Updates consist of game features and mechanics that are free for all along with bug fixes.

Finally, DLC is wholly optional and does not add or take away from base game play. The DLC is merely cosmetic (paint, tires, chassis, accessories and trailers) and map expanding (Going East, Scandinavia, and France).

American Truck Simulator is a game with built-in mod support aimed at semi-trailer truck enthusiasts or driving sim players that want a relaxing time killer. The learning curve is not steep, there are gameplay options to scale driving difficulty, and there are plenty of input options from basic key/mouse to advanced sim player inputs like a wheel, shifter, etc.

Also, the game is developed by an indie developer (SCS Software) that makes updates few or far between. Future updates are open beta that one can opt-in via the beta tab in its Steam game properties. Feedback to the devs from the community is respected. The devs do make DLC here and there, but there are plenty of mods to keep one playing if the game becomes stale.

I usually play the game to relax while listening to music or podcasts.

As an addendum, there is also an optional way to tie your game to a "World of Trucks" account. "World of Trucks" at times host events that give one Steam tradable items by completing external contracts from said tied account.

Online population is next to dead and full regulars that exploit or outright cheat. But still, online/offline there is plenty to do in this game. There are three event types (race, stunt run, and road rage [online has challenges outside of these]) and 50+ cars consisting of three types (boost, rage, and stunt) that change how you play to fill up your boost. Your car selection is limited in online events (race, stunt, and rage), but has no restriction in Freeburn (online no event) and while doing online challenges. Offline play usu. requires specific vehicles to complete progress (i.e. dependent on event type). Regardless of online or offline play the entire map is completely open. Online you work with others to complete achievements or participate in events and offline you work to unlock cars.

The only issue is that the game will disconnect players from host (no dedicated servers) at times when the hosts start events, most regularly during races. Challenges do not seem to be effected by this issue. And there is no in-game chat ability other than a mic, which, thankfully, you have the ability to mute players if their mic has feedback or they are trolling.
