Some of the best and most satisfying platformers out there. Lots of room for freedom and free styling your way feels dynamic and smooth, requires some precision for inputs but no path is too linear, cant be skipped with some clever usage of your skills or is locked to needing to be completed in a single way. In other words, its no precision platformer that require solid inputs with no variety. Game hides rewards and collectibles in spots of the map that are clearly not the intended path, rewarding curious players that get off their way to reach high in the maps geometry.

Also, a blast from the past in visual and audio design, with a soft nostalgic spot to hit for anyone who has enjoyed the early PS1-PS2 eras. From the sound effects to the choppy animations (that can be smoothed out in settings if its not your thing) Thiss game really sets you back to the good old days.

These last updates are the equivalent to McDonalds going full vegan, and a kick in the crotch to the loose and free identity of the game. The changes are good as an option, but not as a mandatory patch that removes and alters so much content.

I'll stay in rollback versions if i continue playing, just to honor the work and envision of the original devs.

PD, Return my original art book back.

(NO SPOILERS) Only 7 hours, Finished the first Island already, will polish this review upon completing the game. But... Oh boy. Youre in for a good one already. The hype of the trailers and Sega's secrecy were worth all the effort and wait! Must play for Sonic fans (Builds up on the lore, tons of references for the 2000 era, and a sonic formula never seen before) and an overall good experience for anyone else.

Sonic controls beautifully, and even if you think he doesnt, you can modify his speed, aceleration, ability to turn and startup lag in the settings, making it near impossible to be uncomfortable with his movement. Combat is simple yet engaging full of powerful skills and a variety of brand new moves, based in enemy types that are immune, resistant or require the application of specific skills to beat, encouraging variety.
Bosses are usually giant gimmick based robots, requiring Sonic to run over them and literally climb or launch to their weak spots to take them down. (Youll have a sweet treat when you get all the emeralds as well)

Game progression is long, and works like this: Visit New Island, Gather Items to rescue a trapped Friend, Play scattered CyberSpace levels (traditional sonic levels) to gather keys, use keys to get the chaos emeralds, fight the final boss of the island, Move on to the next island, repeat. I dont know how much this formula repeats towards all the islands, but it wouldnt be a wild guess to assume all of them do.

Storywise, they have new writers and direction, Thats clear. Story is more mature and mysterious than previous recent tittles.

Only complaint i could have is that the collision detection is a bit jank. Nothing serious, really, But Sonic will try to acomodate to small rocks and hard edges and floor volumes like he is walking on smooth terrain, causing some snapping. This is not noticeable when he runs, and you wont really see it unless you try to slowly walk towards an edge, But its worth mentioning. There is also some pop in of render distance when approaching to objects that are not part of the map, just as seen in the E3 demo. I dont really mind, and its still a stunning attempt for Sega's first step into open world sonic games, promising a solid foundation for future tittles, wth only more room to improve.

Anyway, Buy it, If you can run it, its worth it. Had me with the jaw dropped at many times, and it does deliver far more than recent tittles.

Does such a great job to introduce you to Roguelites or Tower defenses whichever you're less familiar to. Its simple and straight to the point, yet with very clever mechanics and balancing behind it. no story, no lore, no cutscenes no background, just straight to gameplay in an -easy to learn hard to master- environment.

If you are familiar with any or both of Roguelite and Tower Defense games, you'll love this one.
