idk. I really tried to like this game. I really like the combat and obviously it feels great to play and a lot of impact to everything. But everything else is just so absolutely aimless and boring. I'm sure end game is fine until I read up on how it actually works and the differences between this release + Korean release.

After 50 hours ingame I really felt like I made zero progress and just walked through same-y environments fighting identical enemies that, even with the noob buff off, are brown paper bags in difficulty.

also the story, even accounting for bad localization, is a literal toddler's quality of plot. I give a pass on the writing because of poor localization but I can't give a pass on the overall theme. While typically in these grind mmos that's not really the point, it's a pretty important part of immersing and convincing a player that the setting and writing is worth paying attention to.

I can't say I cracked a smile in that 50 hours of playing.

On top of that all, and for some reason I keep remembering this piece by piece, the bot problem is insane. I saw they made some recent changes but it obviously did nothing. I'm walking through these areas and there are trains of bots walking from quest point to quest point. They never went away and switching channels only does so much. It makes the world feel dead and lifeless. Sort of like watching 9 to 5 workers on the street.

For how many players this game allegedly has, seeing maybe a handful of real other plays and hundreds of bots is absurd. It's obvious the numbers are inflated.

Honestly it's so hard for me to judge this game. As of the 1.2 patch I am a bit more confident in saying that it is worth playing, but it's also taken time to learn how certain things worked. What I think was most impressive was that when I was playing a campaign just before the patch, most of the worst annoyances were fixed in 1.2 and had already been fixed in the beta 1.2 patch. That's impressive, and I appreciate that sort of thing.

The main critiques are still that politics can often be really weird and nonsensical, and that warfare needs a massive overhaul. However, some of the worst annoyances I had in 1.1 with warfare were fixed, (although the entire front system is still jank), but things like having plenty of troops in open terrain and they just can never get enough troops into a fight. That was fixed.

The new autonomous investment system is interesting and helps a lot in early/mid game. It seems to not help as much late game as I would have expected it to, and while it makes railroads midgame, it doesn't make nearly enough of them by late game, which is when they are most important.

The AI is sometimes a bit boring. Occasionally they will have strokes of genius (Belgium as my vassal invaded Washington DC at one point and saved my ass when I was Germany, based). However, that same issue comes to light with naval combat in general: it's even more lackluster than the warfare somehow. Naval invasions tend to be overpowered because the only way to keep troops in an area is to keep them on standby; there's not really any way to station troops in a strategic region unless I am missing something huge without there already being a front there, which sort of defeats the purpose of protecting an area from naval invasions, since once they have a front, they can just try and get troops in unless you push back immediately and get a good roll in the first combat.

At the same time, if you happen to accidentally bug out a far away front, sometimes your troops all get sent back home for no reason. This is VERY annoying and can ruin entire wars where you have a good beachhead and then it takes another 60 days to get them back to where they should be: even though they were already there. These are things that were still a problem, and it's things like this that make it clear it needs to be overhauled quite a bit and not just changed. It's very frustrating because there is no way to tell if it will happen, and you will have a great fight going and then suddenly the front will split but it won't decide to move them to a new one, it will just put them all on standby; alternatively, it may create several fronts and then split them unevenly and let the opponent take free land, etc etc.

The fronts in general do not make sense.

Economically, it's largely a boom style game. You are just experiencing exponential growth at a certain point, and stacking construction is the best way to play since you can make more factories and farms faster and at once, and even when you go into debt it will quickly go back up to parity. That's fairly realistic in terms of long term economic growth though in some cases it was not obvious to figure out. In the older patches, it also seemed like the AI had a lot more trouble doing this: now, France gets to 1b GDP by the end of the game hyper consistently unless you cripple them.

Certain annoying events have been toned down in 1.2 (colonial boundaries dispute, lol). However, stuff like the American reconstruction giving you 5 events every month sucks bigly.

Overall there are still a lot of issues with the game and it's hard to create a concise opinion on it. I spent a lot of extra time trying to learn more and read the forums to give it a fair shot, and I was able to enjoy a few campaigns. However, unlike in EU4 or V2, I'm literally sitting on 5 speed the entire time and there is almost no reason to ever go below 5 speed. I usually stay on 3 or 4 in EU4. I mean, before the game gets really laggy and it always acts like 3 speed anyway.

Still an apprehensively recommend if you know what you are getting into with paradox, otherwise I recommend people just buy EU4 or something instead as an entry into Paradox grand strategy. There are lots of amazing youtubers now (instead of JUST Quill18, even though I love him too) like Ludi, Red Hawk, and BudgetMonk who are all very entertaining to watch and give extremely good tutorials and explanations for important (ACTUALLY relevant) mechanics in the game.

However, avoid anyone who overuses the polandball meme in their videos like the plague.

always online game, so much as have a little bit of packet loss and it kicks you off.

i know in the modern day internet is widely available but i am homeless in a shelter and sales like this help me find games to play that i can afford. i can only use my internet hotspot from my phone.

so i get disconnected every 10 minutes and since there is no offline mode i cant even play the game. Sort of like Steep

heck you ubisoft. seriously. hurts the disadvantaged.

it's a recommend, otherwise.

not really what i was expecting. even the pictures are a little misleading, but it's my fault for not watching any videos, but I enjoy going into things blind. this is a failure story of that tendency

while it looks like it's a climbing game like some sort of walking simulator type thing with random events and a goal, it's actually just a hexagonal roguelite where you have stamina and can only move so many spaces (hexagons) like a board game. that is, there is no free movement or exploration, it is all on a preset board with preset spaces. how random is it? idk. im sure its fine randomness wise

story spoilers, nothing specific but it may decide whether you really want it or not
also the storyline is about magic or something. im sure it would be fine if it wasnt really just sort of there with all the other mechanics.

overall it feels like a civilization 4 mod.

sorry to the devs, its obvious they put a lot of work into this. it's just not very good at the end of the day, and I'm not interested in playing more, but I'm also not interested in refunding

Reccettear-like game, sort of. Seems okay, but becomes increasingly greedier in its p2w/monetization offers; at level 22ish you get an offer for a $30 package with comes with $3 worth of the 'gems' currency, blueprints for items you don't really need, and access to a different crafter- which is one of two that are completely paywalled, the previous being a $20 package.

Along with the basically mandatory monthly subscription premium, that makes this a full priced game (Essentially, you pay $50~60 + subscription to have a playable game experience with nothing locked and teasing you).

Interesting game. Huge shame it's such an incredibly arrogant cash grab, and I'm even okay with gachas a lot of the time. Simply unacceptable.
