Stay away from this game.

This game plays like a test build and runs like one too. On low settings it will dip to 30 fps very frequently whereas I can run elden ring at 60+ fps on epic settings. You can backstab enemies and then throw them into walls and sometimes they will just bug out and get stuck in the wall. Some enemies will just straight up spawn in the ground and despite what it might look like, your weapon can't hit them. This entire game is running around a map collecting materials and fighting the same enemies until you reach a very VERY mediocre boss. The world itself looks nice but is boring to explore because eventually you reach a point where all you find is bonedust which has no use if you have nothing to craft. I find it odd how almost every recipe required claws for some ungodly reason and I never had enough for more than 1 or 2 items. To that I just say why are you only not giving me 1 material when I have an ungodly amount of everything else? You also eventually gain nothing from leveling up because if you don't have the weapon recipes you can't get any more traits. Leveling becomes useless after that point because nothing is improving. I really gave this game all the time in the world to shine but it's so exceedingly good at being boring and repetitive. I say stay away because it just sucks the life out of you, for me the only redeeming quality is that it works sometimes.

If you absolutely love soulslikes like I do then sure play this game when it's on sale for $10 because a game in this state is not worth more than that.

Them making it free to play was a good idea...when the game released in the first place. At this point it's too little too late, everyone that got hyped about this game lost their hype when they saw they had to pay $24.99 just to get into the game. A game with significantly less content at the time it came out than any other platform fighter. Another straight fumble from hi-rez. Realm Royale removed what was fun about the game and then added it back after people had stopped caring about the game. I really did like this game and thought it was a really accessible platform fighter but again hi-rez can never seem to recover a game after they mess up. I hope they continue to update this game and more players start to come in but my bet is it'll be shut down by next year.

That being said, I want to recommend it because it's an actually fun game.

I love Metro 2033 and Last Light, but this one just falls short. They tried to innovate and expand the gameplay loop but ultimately made it way worse. Not to mention the constant game freezing and crashes on specifically The Caspian level. This game has been out for 4 years at the point and they have not fixed these issues. However, yes I still recommend it.

First off, the game looks phenomenal. I honestly think this is the best looking game I have ever played. Gunplay feels amazing as it has in both of the other games. (I should mention I only played the redux versions) The story is there and I'm happy it continued after Last Light but I just generally don't like the relationship you have with Anna. It's probably just because Artyom is a voiceless protagonist but I feel 0 connection between the two of them. Regardless, I think the story is still enjoyable and the Yamantau level was exactly what I wanted from this game.

This game runs terribly for a game that released in 2019. Constant freezing in every level when you're in the open map. As I mentioned the Caspian level is noticeably worse causing my fps to drop as well as lag. On top of that the game crashes a ton in that specific mission. For a game that is supposed to be immersive it feels terrible to constantly be taken out of it because the game was not optimized after 4 years of release.

I want to preface this next point by saying I don't play on ranger mode so it could be different but I really dislike how it feels like I am playing a video game. I hate that there are side missions and materials that you can pick up off the ground. The side missions are not interesting either, they're just fetch quests. I didn't play in ranger mode in either 2033 or Last Light but I was able to immerse myself in this world but here it's so difficult to do so. The backpack conceptually is interesting but it's just another thing that takes me out of it. I also hate the decision to "hold e" for every action. Not only is it tedious but it is the most immersion breaking mechanic in the game. I could be wrong and feel free to correct me if I am but in both Last Light and 2033 if you just walked up to a ladder or tight space it would just automatically put you through it! I would be fine if you just had to press e, but no you have to hold it. There is no option to turn this off which I find ridiculous.

A small point I also wanted to mention is that the enemies can be extremely cartoonish at times. As great as I thought the Yamantau level was, the cannibals were silly. I can understand if it was meant to be that way but I could not take the threat seriously. It felt like I was playing a borderlands game blasting some psychos. I will say though I do find it really cool that they will call out where you are and this is a huge plus to immersion.

I'm so sad that this game did not live up to the amazing games that are Metro 2033 and Metro Last Light. This game is just a complete and utter disappoint to me. I really hope that the next game in the series is closer to those two games than this one. That's most likely not going to happen but I can hope. If you are a big fan of metro I still think this game is worth buying just don't expect it to be as good as the others.

Final thoughts after finishing the story - Honestly the final sequence of the game was amazing. It finally felt like I was playing a metro game again and it was magnificent. The Taiga level was also by far my favorite level and the most fun. I think that Volga and Caspian were interesting ideas but I don't really want to see content like that in another metro game. I had a significantly more enjoyable time in the linear levels than any of the open world levels. Overall, everything else I said in this review still remains true but this game is definitely less of a disappointment. I really wish there was a mixed option because I think this game is still worth playing no matter what; despite it still being a let down compared to the other games in the series.

Game is extremely fun.

Coop is hell, extreme lag and enemies teleporting everywhere. Health scaling on enemies is way too much for 3 people. It's obviously doable but it's just really tedious.

Review after 100% - Excellent entry into the Team Ninja roster of games. I think everything they were trying to do in this game really hit the mark. My only complaint would be that the story is trash. It definitely feels like there is a good story in here somewhere but the way they tell it is so disjointed and confusing. I felt the same way about Nioh 1 but Nioh 2 cleared up a lot of the confusion. I hope the game ends up like that and becomes a series, cause damn this was a fun game.

Game is extremely tedious and boring. Most of the new cast is pretty unlikable.

However, the main reason I'm even writing a review is because I got softlocked in chapter 4 and I can't progress. I don't think this game is worth your time unless you're a hardcore danganronpa fan. Even then I'd just read a synopsis as it is just a side story.

Really looking forward to when this game is finished.

It is really solid starting out and seems interesting. Although, the game is essentially unplayable right now. I found this challenge area and I couldn't do any damage to any of the enemies.

Looks like it'll be really enjoyable when it fully releases. Don't recommend it right now
