Here's the best compliment I can give this game: I played the original, on the PS2, in the year 2001, and I think this is a good remake. It suffers a little from being made a bit too big. There's an area two thirds through the original that was not fun at all, and now it's not fun and much longer. But otherwise, it does a good job of updating the game for a new audience.

I've played 2 previous games called Alone in the Dark (3 if we're including The New Nightmare), and this was the best. It's a little bit of a technical mess but I was hooked by the middle of chapter 2. It's got a good mix of simple puzzles with some slightly sloppy action. It's not mindblowing but it's good.

I like Crow Country but it took me a little bit to come around on it. The checkpoints are just a little far between. The choice to put the notes you've collected accessible only from those checkpoints is mildly annoying. It's light on the horror. But I was enjoying it a lot by the time I got to the end. Very solid PS1-styled survival horror.

SIGNALIS is one of my favorite games of all time. It is survival horror that evokes emotions I haven't felt in a game since Silent Hill 2. It is flawless blending of that game, Resident Evil, and Evangelion. Dark and emotional, tense and disorienting, beautiful and horrifying.

A perfect weekend game. It's got a ton of style and action. The gameplay splits the difference between Wolf3D and Doom Eternal. It's mostly flat but with several methods of attack, but not so many that it becomes rock-paper-scissors. I love it.

It's short but well worth the time. Great atmosphere and pacing. Puzzles aren't too obscure. Great little horror adventure game.

Lunacid is a game that makes great screenshots and isn't very fun to play. I can run around in circles looking for one slightly hidden door if I move fast, but it's a lot less fun at this plodding pace.

What is a great remaster of a bad video game? Still a bad video game. It's just a little shinier and a little easier to play on modern systems. The action feels super slippery and everything about the game is so ugly. I ran into a wild spike in difficulty and suddenly the novelty wore off. It's just not good, especially at full $20 price.

This is the lightest "not recommended" I can possibly give. A lot of Dread Delusion works for me, such as the world, the writing, the exploration. What doesn't work is the combat. It's just sort of there, it's not very interesting, and it's just as prevalent as everything else. I suppose if I dropped the difficulty to minimum, I could more or less ignore it. If I have to cut out a quarter of the game, I can't recommend it.

Wrath checks a lot of boxes for me. Quake-ish. Dark fantasy. Fast action. But then it's got a terrible save system, the levels are enormous and poorly paced, and a lot of the enemies are just not much fun to shoot. I looked around at other reviews and it seems I'm in for a long slog. I'm already bored.
