My interests have coalesced into the following:

FIRST: A big fan of all classic games (some older than 2000, but mostly 1995 and older) no matter what. Never get tired of digging back into my childhood. Most of them I have over on GOG, but I have some over here. Also a big fan of classic console and computer game emulation, some of which I have here in SEGA Genesis and Mega Drive Collection, Atari Vault, and several dozens of arcade and console game anthologies - the most prominent being SNK 40th Anniversary, the two Capcom Arcade Stadiums, all of the MegaMan Legacy, etc.... so many more.

For AAA games I like open-world, free-roaming shooters, slashers or platformers, whether first- or third-person. Example franchises: GTA, Far Cry (you won't see Far Cry 3, 4, 5 or 6 pop up on my status because I have them over on Ubisoft Connect, and not even there because I've stopped playing them), Watch Dogs (lost interest in Legion), Skyrim (Played the heck out of it with the mod list for Wabbajack called Lost Legacy), Fallout 3, New Vegas and 4 also heavily modded, The Saboteur (on GOG), Mafia (what Hangar 13 did with the third installment and with their Definitive Edition of the first installment is GREAT). [Most of this copy I penned back in 2017, and it all still fits – but these days now, the game I'm playing the most up that fits in this category is a third-person action/adventure game that also fits in the below-mentioned Metroidvania category: that would be Star Wars: Jedi: Fallen Order, over on Origin - also more recently I got Survivor, its sequel, over here, whupped all those.)

For mid-production (between AAA and independent) - guess you'd say AA - RPGs, whether Eastern-style (Final Fantasy) or Western (Baldur's Gate, Planescape: Torment, the like. Both classics, yes, but they also fit).

For independent (or independent-like, or heck, some of these might reach back into AA and AAA) production: Environmental Narratives (also known as Walking Simulators) or the opposite of this presentation, the Visual Novel; Metroidvania ("Ability Required to Proceed" trope in effect), puzzlers of all types. If a game is all three that's MAGIC to me. Talos Principle IS this and I absolutely love it (or I did, before it got frustrating to me and I quit). Others in this category include: What Remains of Edith Finch, Vanishing of Ethan Carter, Gone Home, Firewatch (owned on GOG), Shadow Complex, Strider, Hollow Knight, Portal, The Witness, Obduction, on back to the classic Myst series...

As mentioned I do love the visual novels – most of these are independently produced by people who really don't care what big companies think, and don't have to; as such, LGBTQ+ themes figure heavily in these VN's. Most of them I have over on itch.io; I have and will double-dip on some over here because I love the stuff the starving developers write, and I want to support them more.

Oof, at some point maybe all of this could use a rewrite, but my heavy editing will have to do for now, as of November 2023.

Finally, I will state a quote that I feel best describes my outlook on the oft debated differences between PC and console gaming:

"PC gaming is not only for people who know everything about computers and want to raise their performance to the Nth degree. Likewise, console gaming is not only for people who know nothing about gaming or gaming systems and want their games as cut-and-dried as possible."

I post many more things, including (when I am motivated) copies of my Steam reviews over on my blog: My username sans the number as a subdomain of Wordpress.
