A fun Lovecraft inspired Doom clone. Atrocious writing and voice acting, but the art direction and lots of fun references and easter eggs more than make up for it. Not sure about the full $20, but definitely a good grab on sale.

Character creation is lacking, and the game is kinda slow to get you going, but pretty solid otherwise.

+Combat is better than I expected, feels like baby Sekiro almost. Lots of dodging and countering, each spell has a certain enemy or attack that it counters
+Good exploration, well-made environments
+Puzzles strewn about, fun to find and solve
+Main story seems interesting so far

-Limited character creation, especially considering some of the character creation from other games we've gotten in the past few years
-Dialogue and voice acting can be cringe at times
-Camera controls feel a bit janky (though that might be my fault for using a steam controller)

The best word I can use to describe this game is artistic. It's very beautiful, just a few steps removed from being a full-on walking sim. Some would say that they should have commit to the walking sim and removed the rest, but it is my belief that some of the game's other aspects are intentionally frustrating to accentuate its themes. You are supposed to get lost, both in-game and in regards to the narrative. The combat is not intended to feel good, because you are not doomguy and this is not doom. You are a small, insignificant, scared little human in an incomprehensible alien hellscape with no choice but to keep moving forward.

This game honestly does so much with so little. It's a slow burn, and maybe a bit tedious, but if you want to be in a constant state of unease and anxiety for about an hour or so, the $6 price tag is definitely worth it

Two bosses in and they already seem harder than dark souls, but I don't use summons, which you get A LOT of. Lots of options, lots of versatility, and the story and lore are much easier to get invested in. Thanks George!

Fills the void in my heart left by Tribes Ascend when Hi-Rez abandoned it entirely

Like among us, but with voice chat, more abilities, and actual combat. Muy bueno

Two things before my actual review:

-First and foremost, it's definitely best to go into this game as blind as possible. Ignore any expectations you had, and you'll thank me later.

-Best played with a controller or gamepad. The game tells you this at launch, and for good reason. There is LOTS of flying and piloting, and I'm almost certain you'll have a better time with a controller than a keyboard and mouse.

Now with those out of the way;

There's eerie little bits reminiscent of the depths of Subnautica, and also cozy little bits that remind me of Firewatch. Gameplay actually feels like something between the two. Story-rich, puzzle-heavy; mostly in the sense that piecing together the story is the puzzle. This does require a bit of reading, though: there's no voice acting, and if you're the type to skip over dialogue or collectible notes, you'll have a very hard time completing this.

The game is completely open world, but finding the next puzzle piece is a matter of figuring out where to go and when to go there, though the pieces don't necessarily need to be put together in any particular order; one piece almost always leads to another. You just gotta start exploring!
