A fun ride that has some trouble with pacing, getting bogged down here and there.

Good:
-Characters and plot both stand out. A little darker than typical JRPG fare, although not as well-written as you might hope.
-The banter, which I would have found annoying in any other game, is actually really charming, and became a highlight for me.
-Despite how dark it may seem, this was a relaxing game for me. Helped unwind after work.

Bad:
-Too easy. Changing difficulty only changes experience gain and health, as I understand it.
-Gear management is a chore, and loot is really unsatisfying, taking away your incentive to explore.
-Pacing. By the half-way point, I started skipping detours and collectibles to race to the finish and enjoyed the game more for it. There is definitely some filler here.

Lots of fun so far, and free. You have no reason not to try this charming little game.

Outward is the kind of game that only comes along once in a great while. I've played about every one of the great PC rpg's (save for the Gothic series, which is probably a crime). I haven't played anything that's felt new or fresh in a long time. That is, until this game.

Outward is a tad janky. The controls are a little loose. There aren't enough hotkeys. And yet none of that really matters once you get moving. It somehow manages to combine Dark Souls-inspired combat with an open world, the most effective crafting system I've seen in years, and a mysterious and effective character progression system that doesn't feature levels or classes, yet manages to produce distinct characters. And it's hard. Very hard, at first. The game sees fit to explain just about nothing to you, and it's a better game for it, because half of the game is about discovery - both traveling to dangerous places and mining their depths, as well as discovering the mechanics of the game itself.

Plus, there's split-screen and online co-op. What else do you need?

Janky and broken. Controls are also weird on Oculus. Would not recommend.

Played countless hours on disc back in the day. The controls (and glitches that have persisted after thirteen years) have not aged well, nor have the UI mechanics, but if you have the patience for it, this is one of the all-time great strategy games.

There is the potential here for a great game. Unfortunately, it never got developed beyond what we have here, and so what we do have is a rather mediocre Dwarf Fortress clone (that at least, thank God, has a useable interface).

I would only recommend if you love management games or you can get it on a very steep sale. For $15, it was not worth it.

Did you like Dishonored 1?

If so, this is a great game, and you'll love it. It's more of the same but with better graphics and a little more variety.

If you didn't play Dishonored 1, stop what you're doing and go do that. It's great.

Frankly, it's just a bland game that happens to have Elder Scrolls in the name. The story is . . . well, not great actually, but apparently better than other MMOs. But it doesn't matter, because there is little in compelling gameplay. The entire game is scaled to you and so easy there is no incentive to . . . well . . . do anything, really. It's the ultimate realization of what WOW started: it's so streamlined and easy-to-get-into that the game pretty much plays itself.

Not for me.

Paid $15 with expansions. Playing in VR. Blowing my mind.

Basically what I'm saying is, for the price I paid, I already got my money's worth, and I don't plan to stop playing anytime soon. If you like space sims, it's worth a shot. If you play VR, and you're willing to learn to play a hard to learn game, it's worth a shot.

After playing this in VR, I don't know how I could ever go back to flatscreen shooters. With the handful of built-in maps, it would easily be worth the price of admission. With the active modding/mapping scene, it's worth $40 easy.

3/9/19 update: Still going strong. Love this game, and the new update up on beta adds excellent attachment mechanics and updates to many of the guns. Get. This. Game.
