Early Access Review
General:
Neither a ripoff nor a copy. Starbound, just like Terraria, gets inspiration from Minecraft in certain aspects. But trust me, it does everything better.

The pros:

At this stage of an early access game, Starbound is very impressing, indeed.
Graphics-junkees do not get fooled. Despite the retro graphics the game feels fresh and the fps is just so incredibly fluent and
the soundtrack is nothing short of amazing..
You start as one of six races where you get quests telling you to do this n that to make your ship able to fly again. Once the ship is ready you'll be jumping the galaxy in search of new planets with new biomes and new possibilities. You'll craft a ton of things, grind/farm for items such as sniper rifles, swords, axes or SMG's.
After killing bosses you will unlock the possibilty to make a new map wich will unlock new parts of the univers (Alpha, Bravo etc). Wich will raise the levels of monsters and ofcourse the difficulty of the planets in general.

Once on a planet you'll find yourself in search of cool dungeons to raid alone or with friends, looking for all the cool weapons i mentioned previously.

The cons:

The one thing I find quite annoying is the fact that it feels like it takes forever to hack your way through walls/stones etc. Maybe you'll get an item later that will make it way more efficient, i'm only using the diamond pickaxe at the time of this review and therefor i'm not sure.
Another issue is frame drops. Not sure why these happen but if I change settings to 2x Zoom Level i get bad framerate at times. This will most certainly be fixed prior to full release of the game (It's still a beta mind you).
But yeah, I get these drops even with an Intel Core i7 3770k, 16Gb RAM and 2 pieces of AMD Radeon HD 7970 in CrossfireX so this has nothing to do with hardware.

The verdict:

If you liked Minecraft or like me, enjoyed Terraria way more than Minecraft, I don't see how you would dislike Starbound.
It's not a ripoff nor a copy of any of these. But they still have alot incommon and it's still so much fun!
So what are you waiting for? Fuel up and let's go for an adventure unlike any other!
