A short indie action-adventure with a couple interesting mechanics and pretty good (for an indie game) visuals and voice overs. However, I would recommend getting it on sale: the game is only 5 hours long even with all the achievements.

It's a fine TRPG with great visuals, good writing, various side missions, and some stealth elements, but don't come expecting too much: after all it's a AA game with its share of issues.

First of all, it's main difference from other XCOM clones is an option to lure away and stealthily kill enemies one by one (by throwing bottles or activating speakers). However, the game has only two silenced weapons and only a couple abilities that can be used without alerting all the enemies. Thus, these stealth eliminations quickly become too repetitive.

Secondly, while the game has a selection of several weapon types (assault rifles, sniper rifles, shotguns and bouncing disk weapons), the main difference is not even damage, but attack distance. There are assault rifles and even shotguns with bigger range than some sniper rifles! And since SRs only have one bullet in a magazine (ARs have 3-4), they are mosltly useless.

Then, aside from the main difficulty, the game offers a tactical mode. Essentially, with this mode enabled you are not guaranteed to hit the enemy even if he's standing in plain sight, and chance to hit also depends on the weapon type you are using (SR have higher chance at big range, AR at close range, and shotguns at medium range - yes, at the same range as AR shotgun is more likely to hit the target).

But that's fine, XCOM fans will understand missing with 99% chance to hit. The real issue is that in this mode covers seems to benefit only enemies, but not your teammates. I went through the whole game, and regardless of the covers I used (low or full), enemies pretty much always hit my characters even from a huge distance. So, basically, instead of hiding behind covers, this forces you to be aggressive and control or quickly kill enemies instead. Not sure if this is intented or a bug, but this makes the game significantly different from other XCOM clones, and not always in a good way.

And, of course, there are tons of bugs, and some of them may make you lose the game (for instance, while using a specific ability, one of your characters may run across the map and aggro more enemies than expected), so I would not recommend playing on the Alpha Editor (Ironman) difficulty. And given the length and amount of content, I would also wait for a sale: the base price seems way too expensive for what the game offers. Still, it's a good TRPG, and if you like the genre and the visuals, you should grab it on sale.

This is a great example of an AA game being significantly better than the majority of AAA releases in the same year 2023.

Hi-Fi Rush perfectly blends slasher mechanics with a rhytm game and at the same time provides tons of unique content: various locations filled with secrets and collectibles, dozens types of enemies, several cool bosses with different phases and mechanics, and also a pretty good story with great cutscenes and memorable characters (the only downside is rather childish writing). And, naturally, the game has an amazing soundtrack and comic style visuals that fit this style of story and gameplay perfectly.

It doesn't have a New Game+, but once you beat all the levels, you unlock several new game modes, and can also choose and replay locations to find all the secrets (some of which are not accessible during the first playthrough). Overall, one of the best games of 2023 to me, even though I managed to play it only in the mid 2024. Totally recommended if you like slashers, adventures or just these kind of visuals (if you're in just for the story, play on easy, obviously).

It is probably one of the worst optimized games of all time, its performance is absolute trash.

Running on 12900k, 32 GB Ram, 3080 Ti at 1440p, and regardless of the visual settings, there are constant fps drops, stuttering and bad frame pacing. Disabling E-cores makes it run better, but there are still constant fps drops. It seems that the game utilizes only a few cores, and hence the stutters when the main thread is locked.

And it actually looks like a 5-10 year old game, especially the janky animations, horrible particle effects and human characters right from the uncanny valley.

Gameplay wise, it's also nothing special, just another Soulsborne clone with really bad level design (the locations are mostly linear and have no memorable areas), the only interesting thing about it is its setting. But this only plus is utterly destroyed by all the cons: horrible performance, janky animations and clunky controls. Avoid at all costs.

Definitely not the best Dontnod game, and you should not expect another Life is Strange from it. However, Twin Mirror still offers a good (albeit somewhat predictable) story with a few memorable characters and several cool action scenes and puzzles.

Also, unlike many other interactive movies by Dontnod, Twin Mirror features four different endings, but they are essentially decided by your decisions at the end of the game, so replayability factor is pretty low.

This is one of a few games I've beaten twice (among hundreds I played). A touching story about hardships of young siblings who are forced to fight for their lives after losing their parents.

The game might look like a walking sim, but in fact it's a solid action adventure with tons of variety, and almost every single one of its seventeen chapters offers a unique experience. Definitely a must play if you like adventure games and good stories.

This is the scariest game I've ever played. And I am not easily scared by games.

This is the best Heroes of Might & Magic like game we've got in 25 years since HoMM III.

Seriously, just go and play it. Actually, play it if you like turn based strategies in general, not HoMM specifically.

This game is indeed pretty Black and pretty Sad. I mean, the story is noire, and is everything you would expect from a movie of this genre. It's not great, but it's ok, and there are a few memorable characters. The story and the setting are the only things I am recommending Blacksad for, as this is the weakest game by Pendulo Studios.

The gameplay is really sad. This is essentially a walking sim with really clunky controls and occasional QTEs which are horrible: while you have enough time to press (or mash) a button, just one mistake leads to a game over, and given the fact that checkpoints are not that often and you can't skip dialogues, this makes all the QTE scenes even more obnoxious.

This and inability to skip cutscenes also leads to not wanting to play through the game another time, which is also sad since there are decisions that seem to impact the story. And it would also be a nice excuse to gather all the collectible cards in the game. But alas, clunky gameplay paired with unskippable cutscences and dialogues make subsequente walkthroughs absolutely unfun.

Essentially more of the same, but with many changes and arguably improvements over Hades.

The game feels harder than the first one, at least I am 17 hours in already, and still haven't managed to kill the final boss, and I even reached him only three times (killed Hades around 10 hour mark in the first game).

And even though this is early access, there is already tons of content, after playing 17+ hours, I am yet to unlock a single weapon aspect (heck, I still have to unlock one last weapon), and there's a lot of story to be discovered.

Overall, definitely a must buy if you've enjoyed the first Hades. And if you didn't play, please do: it's one of the best roguelite games out there, and Hades 2 shapes up to become even better!
