Very underrated game, but still has a lot of issues.

Personally it's one of those games that left a mark in my heart. Very nice visuals, The atmosphere, that constant uneasy feeling of fear and unknown, especially the hordes, a beautiful story, and the virus which leaves so many open questions and makes you search for answers all the time.

The worst part is, the game felt like a chore to play. Most of the story missions were so useless and repetitive, it just felt like they were added to artificially prolong the playtime. (Ride through half the map, find an item, bring it back. Those missions make up like 50% of the game.

Most of the characters, main or side, did not really open up during the whole game, and there is so little character development, everyone just felt like generic NPCs, empty and without character.

Bugs. There are quite a few of them, some are funny, some break the immersion, and some are game breaking. Ex: Fast travel to a location and spawn under the map without ability to go back, you can only load a previous save. Most common bugs were graphical, where textures failed to load properly or didn't load at all.

The game world. A beautiful looking, atmospheric, scenic semi-open world which makes you plan your routes carefully at first, but later is much easier to traverse through. Sadly, the world is literally dead. There are like 4 types of wild animals, always the same generic marauders, and freakers everywhere. Random encounters were too repetitive. Yet, I felt like I was never safe outside, even with all the skills and weapons maxed out, it always felt uneasy, so that makes up for everything.

The hordes. If there was one thing that made you ♥♥♥♥ your pants even at later stages of gameplay, it was the hordes. My first encounter was at the NERO death train when I tried to break into the MMU. Freakers just started spilling out the train like ants, I crashed my bike in the tunnel and was forced to run on foot, with a horde chasing me. Moments like these stay in memories forever.

Many events in this game are hard coded or "lazy" coded to a certain location. Even if an event already happend, but you still haven't stepped onto the dialogue trigger location, after you do Deacon will repeat the same dialogue again.

Worth noting is the main mechanic of the game - the bike riding. Really smooth, and really well made. The bike drift, suspension, everything is realistic and on point, one of the best bike mechanics in gaming.

All in all, a game still worth playing on discount today. Although improbable, but now I'm waiting for a sequel.
