I've played every single game in the MGS franchise multiple times. I've beaten 1, 2, and 3 on the hardest difficulty. I've done stamina runs. These are some of my favorite games every. Couldn't be bothered to continue playing 5 after awhile... I do not like open world games very much, generally speaking, I just find them boring. I like exposition, pacing... a well-crafted experience. I'm not saying I want a "movie game" I just like feeling that I'm engaged in a story and I'm moving things along. MGS5 just feels like I'm running around doing boring side quests and collecting stuff for no reason the majority of the time. The cutscenes are sparse. Boss has no personality (and it annoyed me that it wasn't Hayter doing the voice, to be honest).

Yes, the gameplay was super smooth. If nothing else this game was a testament to the power of the Fox engine... but that's really all it felt like to me.

I feel bad giving this game a negative review because I really wanted to love it. I loved all the TV and movie references sprinkled around the world (Fight Club, Rocky, Snatch, TMNT, Pulp Fiction, etc, etc.) I just felt ultimately everything gets way too repetitive. The training and working you have to be in a constant balancing act doing days and days and days of keeping stats and money in check while making sure you have enough food to be able to not starve. Just seems like way too much time doing this stuff instead of getting to fight. The fighting feels pretty shallow too, overall. Didn't thrill me at all. Also, no variety in music. After a couple hours I had to just mute the music and play my own so I didn't blow my brains out.

♥♥♥♥ this game. I really wanted to like it but as others have stated there's no feeling of satisfaction or progression. You just randomly get your ♥♥♥♥ pushed in at every turn. I love a challenging game but this just leaves you with a bad taste in your mouth and no reason to keep playing.
