If the monetization were less cancerous and the actual server infrastructure were better, I would recommend this without hesitation. The core gameplay is super fun, but it's marred by technical hangups and very stingy handouts of free loot boxes and currency.

I wasn't initially inclined to give this one a try, what with the change to a turn-based RPG instead of real-time action combat. But I'm glad that I did, as I would've otherwise missed out in yet another five-star entry in the Yakuza series. The combat may not be the deepest, but it's a perfectly serviceable engine, and I look forward to seeing how they expand it in the sequel.

This game is a fantastic way to both unwind, and to virtually get out and see the countryside, especially with well, everything going on at the moment. Hit some road trip music or a podcast and haul cargo across the Western United States.

Early Access Review
Twenty bucks for the amount of content that's already in this game (and continues to be added) is a steal. I haven't even scratched the surface yet and I feel like I got my money's worth.

Yakuza 0 straddles a very fine line between absurd and deadly serious. The top-notch story and cutscenes are complemented by the very brutal and crunchy combat. And if you need a break from Serious Yakuza Crime Drama, you can go engage in a plethora of minigames, run your own hostess club, help the townsfolk with their own problems, and more. There are dozens upon dozens of hours of content, which at this price is a bloody steal. You owe it to yourself to experience Yakuza, and 0 is the best place to start: the very beginning.

THE ONE TRUE GAME
All hyperbole aside, don't let the Flash-game appearance fool you. This is a great entry-level tool for anyone interested in fighting games to learn about the more meta aspects of the genre: the spacing, timing, zoning, how to bait someone, and all the other things that can get lost in fuller games.
