While I absolutely love this game, I should start by discussing some of the problems with it. For starters, the UI could certainly use an overhaul. Its not exactly a professional look and I feel like a redesigned, more functional UI for controlling this game would really put it over the top. Second, the combat could be a bit more fleshed out too, this can be fixed with mods which brings me to my last point. Once you've played this game with mods, I don't think you'll go back to vanilla. This is not to say that the vanilla game isn't great, because it is, its just that with all the extra content and quality of life mods that exist for this game and how great the modding community is, once you're off vanilla I don't think you'll go back.

Now the good. This game has an incredible amount built in world building that makes each colony you create completely unique from the last one. The way pawns interact with each other and the way the AI storytellers work creates extremely memorable games. The kookiness of this game is incredibly appealing. I once had a doctor "fail in a minor way" at putting an eye patch on a colonist. The "minor way" was he removed the colonist's whole spine on accident. This game is an absolute meme when it wants to be and I love it. On top of that, imo, the music and sound design of this game are great. The slow guitar melodies in the background fit the rustic colony ascetic very well. If you like colony sims or just memes in general, you gotta try this game.

This game is by no mean for everyone. It has a lot of drawbacks such as uplay, weird visual glitches, and just the general group of problems any ubisoft game may have. However, if you happen to fit into a very niche group of people, this game is awesome. Firefights seem immersive in my opinion and the fear of dying seems to actually matter. The reason I bought this game, the dark zone, has not disappionted me yet. Running around like a madman in very tense situations trying to ensure the extraction of my gear is a seemingly new and refreshing expirience that I enjoy a lot. Its a new multiplayer format that I think needs to be explorer by more compaines. Even thought I have only logged about 7 hours so far, I really enjoy this game and thinks its worth a shot if you think it might be your type of game. If not, well then save your money.
