This game is frustrating. Rather than have a more typical design for 1st/3rd person shooters where the enemies die in one or a few hits, depending on the weapon and enemy type, the enemies take damage based on your level relative to the mission level. This means that most of the time, unless you grind ahead, the enemies will be bullet sponges. Even when you snipe an enemy in the head undetected, it won't kill them instantly. I get that this is deliberate, but it sucks. It's not an enjoyable or satisfying way to play a shooter game. The cover-to-cover system is also flawed, and enemies may be able to hit you but you can't hit them, or shoot through a fence that just blocks your shots.

The main missions are pretty cool and fun at times but the side missions are re-used and repetitive. "Go here and kill everyone", "Carry these items that slow you down from A to B while enemies spawn on you", etc. The spawning isn't good either. There's no dynamic detection of where you're standing, so enemies often spawn in droves from a door right behind you or drop down on top of you.

There's no stealth system even though it feels like there should be. You can avoid detection from enemies but if you kill one, it just alerts everyone else.

The looting is OK. You at least get good stuff pretty consistently, but the "quality" the game gives you can be misleading because some of the bonuses a gun has can ultimately be ignored if the other has more damage or a bigger magazine. The crafting is completely unnecessary since you can loot what you need and the weapons are all worse than the stuff you loot at the same level.

The atmosphere is very nice at times, as is the setting itself, but all the characters are ugly and mostly uninteresting. The people you encounter don't look like the last people that would be alive during a pandemic, but the first people to die. I understand the idea that they want to show "regular people" in harsh conditions, but it's like they're afraid to make anyone look even average. On a related note, the customization is abysmal. You have very limited choices in how your character looks and the clothing is all generic junk, so you'll need to spend real money for more cases. Even then, most of the stuff you get doesn't look cool.

But, again, the game design is the major problem. They improved upon it in the sequel, so I guess they made the same realizations (but that one's not great, either). It's terrible, don't buy this.

This new DLC is good, all in all. The new maps do bring a few new mechanics, like some NPCs running away from you in Dorms, and they're all well made. The new weapons weren't anything special, sadly, but the pistol "SMG" is at least interesting. I don't know why people expect the DLC to be part of the campaign, then again, I only play coop. I can see everyone else is conflating this DLC with the update, so I'll do the same.

My performance is just as it was before, if not slightly better, and the game does look better too. The NPCs at the station have more life in their facial animations and there's dialogue now. The new AI is a HUGE improvement. The enemies employ more tactics rather than just bumrush into you. They'll use human shields, and can actually lean from cover. Multiple enemies will hide on both sides of a corridor rather than standing bunched up new to each other (the more advanced factions, at least). I like the game better since the update/DLC!

A tedious non-game with bland scenery.

Even with humble expectations, this game offers very little content. My first guess wasn't that "can be finished in under an hour" meant 26 minutes including menus and loading. Even though some of the psychology is intriguing, there's not enough there to justify this game being released.

The choices are the biggest issue because they seem to rarely affect the conversations or the outcome. Often you are just picking the order of the questions and it makes the interaction feel cheap. You can forget about replay value. I also got reactions like I was making the right choices all throughout the game only to have him flip in the end and lose. I don't think the game properly indicates what path you are taking.

Even if it is on sale, I wouldn't recommend it.

Early Access Review
This game is great. It is such a breath of fresh air among all the action blockbusters to just build a raft with a few friends. The atmosphere is really pleasant and the progression feels rewarding.

I think the shark element is brilliant. It serves to make sure you never get too comfortable and stay on your toes, although never becoming too much of an annoyance.

Just make sure to buy it with a couple of friends, because I can not imagine it is half the fun by yourself.

This game is really fun!

The lightsaber mechanics are obviously the main selling point, but you could probably play the campaign as a shooter and do just fine. I can't complain about much, other than slashing through hordes of Sith getting a little repetitive by the end. Any other minor problems you might encounter can be excused by its old age -- but don't misunderstand me, it has aged considerably well.

I recommend buying it with some friends and going nuts in the multiplayer, it is a good way to learn how the game works, other than being incredible fun. If you're as lucky as I was, you'll meet some veteran willing to teach you the ways of the game. Either way, I doubt any Star Wars fan would dislike this game, especially the multiplayer.

An ESSENTIAL for Star Wars gamers, up there with KOTOR and Star Wars: Battlefront II...

Okay, so first off there's a bunch of logos that you can't skip. By then you should already have noticed that windowed mode cuts off the screen if it's too small. Then you come to the menu, which you will be seeing a lot since it is burned into the damn screen. The controls are pretty basic, nothing to complain about there, and the menu design overall isn't bad. You click play, followed by an unskippable cutscene with low resolution pictures ripped from the internet.

The game starts, and what happens? Ships fly everywhere and are past the screen in two seconds. They take quite many shots to kill for this type of game, making hitting them without getting hit basically impossible. If you're into Star Wars you'll also notice a certain ARC-170 Starfighter.

This is probably a first effort, so for that it could be much worse. I do want the creator to keep going, he/she'll probably get a lot better with time. In the future, don't steal things like ship designs or pictures. And get some musical taste, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

There are not going to be any more episodes. The story is forever left unfinished, despite all the people that paid for the season pass. The developers are scum, and you should not give them your money.
