Duke of Alpha Centauri is a space shoot 'em up that is easy to play but get's progressively harder as you progress through the planet systems. The attacks come as sorties and you must destroy a set number of enemy vehicles in various of realtime stages. Your ship is equipped with shields and a hardened hull so you can take some abuse from the incoming fire and obstacles (with a repair button). Some of your enemies have their own hardened hulls and shields requiring multiple and prolonged gun fire to destroy. There are twenty levels and two boss stages (level 10 and 20). One thing I like about this game is the continued upgrades of the ships subsystems (based on points and player levels) really mean something and makes the vessel oh so much more powerful.

The final level is 20, and after that you can play an endless level for as long as you like. The only down point to the game is the lack of more levels to play and the lack of variety in the enemy craft.

Graphics are excellent, fantastic backgrounds and well animated and colorful ships and asteroids. They move smoothly and are pleasing to look at.

Music is very good, and sound effects pop and explode with satisfying results.

Game plays well with an xbox or similar controller. I personally use a Logitech F710 (my favorite).

Highly recommended for space scrolling shoot 'em up fans!

This is hard game to describe.. really hard. It's fun, frantic, hectic, confusing, but offers Occulus and 3DTV support if you have it.

It's divided into two games, the first is a Centipede like clone that is played on changing surfaces. You must shot a variety of incoming "centipedes" like objects that are racing towards you, leaving other obstacles in their wake and launching projectiles to avoid. Also, you must avoid laser gun that are trying to train on you from the left side and top of the screen.. further adding to the difficulty. Still, it is fun but hard to progress further.

The second game is a llama that must continuously jump from platform to platform, saving sheep and avoiding enemies while the screen progressively is moving upward. You fail if you fall or the screen scrolling catches up to you. It's reminiscent of Tower Toppler. It's fun but also difficult.

All in all, another Jeff Minter game.

It's cheap and fun to play with an xbox like controller. I recommend it.

You play a moose racing down a colorful and psychedelic tunnel with various psychedelic enemies and obstructions. You can race ahead, backtrack, and flip ontop of the screen to shoot enemies both high and low. You can collect imprisoned sheep and lead them to safety at the end of the tunnel.

Various powerups are available to strengthen your standard shooting, along with mirror llama's that race ahead and destroy enemies.

Graphics look like an 80's arcade game, but souped up for modern consumption. They are fast and furious, exploding on the screen in wonderful pixel showers.

Sound and music are exotic and apropos to the visuals.

This is another Jeff Minter (The Yak) Llamasoft game. A wonderful and frantic arcade experience.

BTW, the game supports Steam VR mode.

Wonderfully recommended. But, use a xbox controller on this one!

An exotic and psychedelic shooter on rails that moves at incredibly fast speeds through a variety of terrain, primarily geometric forms. You must try to enter through checkpoints and collect powerups to increase your weapons and add shields and other effects like slow-mo.

The music is a light techno inspired theme that well suits the game.

Graphics are fantastic, with colorful landscapes and pixel explosions galore. A real treat to the eyes.

From the creative mind of Jeff Minter of Llamasoft. The Yak man has created a super fun masterpiece.

Note, best used with an xbox or similar controller. BTW, the game supports Oculus VR mode.

Highly recommended!

A psychedelic front running shooter with groovy music, sounds, and voices. You must collect sheep/llamas and additional ships that allow you to switch in realtime that offer different abilities that might prove useful in the current situation you find yourself in. You can rotate the ship to shooting enemies from every direction. The action is fast and furious, hectic to play and best played with an xbox controller.

The graphics are wild and truly something to behold.

The game hails from Jeff Minter of Llamasoft. For all those familiar with his work you know it is something truly unique and not found anywhere else.

The game can be played with a controller but a mouse is sooo much easier.

Highly recommended. Buy it!

A blast from the past! Breakout: Recharged is a major update to a classic Atari 2600/80's arcade game. Featuring time limited upgrades to your player paddle (such as explosive shot, slow-mo, additional firing, etc). You have the option of the standard game, classic, and classic recharged. Each offering their own unique perspective on gameplay.

Graphics are simple to nice. Complimentary to modern times. Sound and music are very good, apropos to the genre and update.

As a side note, it is best played with the mouse as this mimics the classic roller seen in the arcade. One can use a controller but it is not as fine tuned in my opinion and subject to error.

Highly recommended!

This game is an update on an old classic.. Centipede, seen in the 80's on arcade machines. Your objective is to eliminate the various spiders, fleas, and centipedes that come crawling across your screen while trying to prevent or rid the area of certain effects like mushrooms that grow from various hazards - affecting and creating tight spaces from which dodging incoming attacks is limited. Various upgrades are to be had when killing a spider such as explosive bullets, bombs, and other neat and helpful upgrades to your standard shooting projectile.

Graphics are, though generally simple, are colorful and dynamic. With satisfying area explosions from your projectiles to the unique animated ability of the general static screen.

Sound is menacing and appropriate. Music is apropos to the genre.

It is best played using a d-pad controller though you can control it with a mouse and keyboard.

Highly recommended!

An old Atari 2600/80's arcade game brought up to date (Recharged). You are tasked with shooting asteroids, aliens, and other things while employing dodging and transport to avoid projectiles. The game features challenge rounds that are unique which tasks you with multiple objectives.

The game features dramatically improved visuals and audio from the classic game. With various time limited upgrades available upon shooting alien craft.

The game features local co-op and at a reasonable price it is a blast to play.

Highly recommended!

A classic Atari 2600 game revamped (Recharged). It is a twin joystick shooter that must be played with an Xbox or similar controller in my opinion.

It is frantic, and awesome for those who have twitchy finger triggers as you are being attacked in every direction and must constantly move and shoot to avoid dying.

Graphics are very nice and the sound is menacing.

Highly recommended!

P.S. Hit me up for some co-op sometime. I would love to try it.

I've only played this game a little and I am already addicted. You play a moveable slime/jelly ball (with cute face 'n all) that has the ability of possessing other people in the various encountered levels/areas, but watch out!; You need to possess the correct character (professor, military man, engineer, etc); each has their own ability that pertains to the various puzzles and platforms contained in the level. You will find yourself possessing, jumping, dodging, pushing blocks, shooting, etc to get around all the various obsticles.

The levels are cleverly designed and have that feel of one more try at all times. The various levels can be somewhat on the short side but never dull.

Graphics are pixel flavor, sound is so so, and music is the same throughout each "area" but the game is highly addictive.
