This might've been innovative years ago when it was still in beta; but it was officially released in 2017. The UI still feels like it's in alpha, the gameplay is slow and boring, and the majority of the unlockables are just for building huts, but nothing to put into the huts. Nothing feels balanced in the game at all, and there's too much time just hacking away at trees and rocks.

I'm not at all against survival, automation, or base building games. If you look at my profile, you'll see I've got several hundreds of hours in other similar games. The bottom line is, there are many other games that do what this game does a lot better, and for significantly cheaper.

This game is peak enshittification of the Internet. You'll pay top dollar for every bit of this games, its DLC, and its sequels, and you'll barely get the inkling of the experience you can get from other games that're much cheaper, and that're loved by their developers a lot more. This game has been out since 2017 and it still feels completely unpolished.

If you've never played a survival game before, you might have fun with this. But if you've ever played literally anything else, you'll find that there's barely any experience to be had here. It's all bare minimum effort.

It's not a BAD game per se; but there's no "meh" option; and if you had to twist my arm, I'd say that it's not really worth the $40 price tag. In short- This is just Deep Rock Galactic minus the mining, and with a splash of fancy graphics.

How it's like Deep Rock Galactic:

- Play with up to only 3 other players on your team
- Upgrade your weapons outside of battle
- Buy costumes you can change into outside of battle
- Select a mission from the map to start a game
- Drop into a map with your team
- Complete tasks while being swarmed by enemies
- Collect items in-battle to spend on upgrading your gear
- Call down resupplies and items in-battle
- When you've completed your tasks, you call down a ship for extraction
- The extraction ship takes a couple minutes to actually drop
- If you don't make it onto the ship, you can get an EXP penalty

Rinse, repeat, ad infinitum

Like I said, It's not a BAD game loop. If you've never played DRG before, you'll probably have a lot of fun playing this with friends for a good 40-100 hours-ish before you get bored. But if you have, you'll find this to be more of the same. There's only a ten dollar difference between the two games at the time of this writing; so it's entirely up to your preference as to which one you want, or even both.

I'm wagering that VRChat implemented Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC) in preparation for selling the company. Neither VRC+ nor EAC make sense from either a community standpoint, nor a VRC corporate standpoint. VRC+ Doesn't generate revenue anywhere remotely close to what an in-game marketplace would, and EAC won't actually stop any malicious users. But VRC+ is literally a list of users who are willing to spend money on VRC and any theoretical micro-transactions in the future, and EAC is an "industry standard" anti-cheat software, which big name companies expect to have on games. This tastes like the same sort of purge that Tumblr did before they sold off to Yahoo!

They also didn't inform the community of this change until last minute, because they knew that it would receive intense backlash. They could've worked with mod developers to implement QoL and Accessibility features into the game before pushing out the update. Valve has done this with TF2 for introducing community made game modes before, so it's not unheard of for companies working with modders and users to add features and content. But they chose not to. Anyone cal literally join up on the modding community server and speak to mod devs, but they just chose not to extend the olive branch, and instead just full on betrayed everybody. No matter what sort of pandering they do in the future, their actions have made it abundantly clear that they don't care about their userbase at all.

Also, this move was done suspiciously close to them receiving another round of funding.

I'm not saying it's a duck- But if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck.. It definitely smells like a sinking ship.

The controls are terrible and there's no way to remap them in-game for some reason. You don't push Up to jump like in most fighting games, and you don't push A like in most platformers. You push Y for some reason.

They claimed that hiring VA was too expensive, but the game is selling for $50USD anyways? Maybe if the game was $15 I could let that slide, but you can't charge full price for a game that's missing basic features. It's like paying full price for a car that doesn't have any seats or wheels.

Also, instead of Voice Acting, they put unskippable text boxes of dialogue before every match, that you have to button mash through. So not only are there no voices, but they're actively punishing you for them not putting voices into the game.

Did they even try playing their own game once before releasing it?

The controls are terrible. You constantly get stuck facing one direction, which makes it incredibly difficult to get your weapons to do what you want them to do. Boss fights are either incredibly overwhelming, or utterly too easy once you figure out the gimmick. Weapons are hidden inside of background tiles and you can't carry multiple weapons at once, which means you have to travel across the map to get whatever weapon you want to use. But worst of all- Everytime you die, it takes you back to the Title screen, and you have to go through all the menus again to play your save file. If you make even one wrong move, you'll either start some other save file, or create a new one, and risk going through the unskippable intro cutscene.

This game also strongly suffers from "Where do I go? What do I do?"I wanted to like it. I TRIED to like it. But it's just a culmination of all the bad gameplay elements that have been discarded from retro games for the past 30 years for being either too unintuitive, or exceedingly tedious or frustrating. The controls really are the worst part of the game.

Does not play normal Blu Ray movies. That is to say, you can't buy a Blu Ray movie, put it in your Blu Ray drive, and play it with this media player. A complete waste of money, as it just uses the FFMPEG codecs. VLC is an easy replacement for this.

I really enjoyed playing this, had a lot of fun. While it was only a few hours of gameplay (~3 hours), the content was very polished off and was enjoyable from start to finish. There's a lot of "juiciness" in this game, and while it was short, it was jam packed with what it had. Originally I was inclined to call it a video game of Chicken Boo from Animaniacs, but it has its own personality to it that made it unique and special.
