Does not play normal Blu Ray movies. That is to say, you can't buy a Blu Ray movie, put it in your Blu Ray drive, and play it with this media player. A complete waste of money, as it just uses the FFMPEG codecs. VLC is an easy replacement for this.

We agree that VLC is a good media player, Zoom Player is not trying to compete with VLC, but rather provide an alternative with greater depth, customization features and fullscreen navigation for TV/Tablet viewing.

The reviewer did not bother to give Zoom Player a real try and just wrote it off because of prejudice against commercial software in a field where there are decent free alternatives.

If you want decent, go with VLC.

If you want something more in-depth that can cater to your greater media playback needs, give Zoom Player a real try.

Who still uses BlueRays these days?????
We are in the age of Media Streaming and not using these old relics like as BlueRays or DVDs anymore. Lol some people still seem to live in the 90ies. :broflex::hcs_nora::rockon:

Is it just me or is Zoomplayer looking like a fork of mphc (media player classic home cinema) with better design? Atleast this Player with the right codecs installed is not bad, I really like it even if it can't play blu-ray. :D

He wrote it off because it doesn't play Blu Ray

The developer did not bother to give the reviewer a real answer and just wrote it off because it's easier than actually addressing the problem

Glad I read this review. I was going to buy it thinking I could finally get a decent priced program that actually plays blu-rays. Phew!! It is an absolute shame that I have multiple computers with blu-ray drives and I can't even watch blu-ray discs on them.

i did not know they had a steam version? what version type, i have the max version, beein using it from v1(free) tube tvs, svideo output. its good(max version) could be better, in steaming, + winamp visuals while playing mp3, and better dvd/blue ray support.

would like better buffering(+visual indicator) over network, better upgrade installing( center wont close while upgrading) , dvd/ blue ray resolution upgrade(like ps3) for dvd + movies (lav does not have this feaure, but older diff codix does (ffxxx).

on web free version etc + diff paid versions

@trobinette1; No, it doesn't play blu-ray movies off the shelf. That is to say, you can't rent a Blu-Ray from RedBox, or buy a new Blu-Ray of your favourite movie off of Amazon, pop it in your Blu-Ray Drive, and watch it. Zoom Player cannot play regular, commercial Blu-Ray movies because they are encrypted. Zoom Player cannot decrypt and play normal Blu-Ray movies that you'd find in any store or RedBox.

But does it play blu-ray movies off the shelf? I just tried with the demo and nothing.
I'll gladly buy but I need to know if it work with all my blu-ray movies.
