If you are willing to pay for a short but intense, thrilling high quality experience, then get this. Gameplay wise it's the best horror game I've played. It doesn't play any cheap tricks on you, and the fear this game manages to build up is all very real. I only hope that Frictional will make longer games of this caliber in the future, or that they don't make the short ones this overpriced.

The depth of this game is too much for me to focus on nitpicking about some bugs. I personally don't encounter bugs more than about once per 5 hours. It's an amazing experience I already sunk tens of hours into and I have no idea how I did that. It's definitely one of the way more addicting games once you get the hang of the basics. If you love system-based games or simulations, this is definitely up your alley.

There's really too much to describe in a simple review. The game certainly isn't for people who want a simple gaming experience, as anything as simple as starting out requires a small book of knowledge about the game (Though the beginner tutorial is surprisingly helpful at starting you off with bare minimum knowledge). Learning is thankfully also not boring, especially if you are the trial and error enjoyer type. The game is most of all an amazing story generator. By that I mean that apart from the game itself, there's great enjoyment to be had in talking to others about the insane (or even mundane, yet funny) things that happen in your fort to others.

Insane game and I'm excited for what systems they will implement next to make the experience even more insane.


I changed my mind and turned this to a negative review after a queen obsessed with demanding mini-forges moved in and she wouldn't get baited into any atom-smasher trap for hours.


I mangled that ♥♥♥♥♥'s corpse and all my dwarves lived happily ever after. I love this game. Buy it.

AI is god awful and the only way you will find a challenge is on "higher difficulties" where the AI gets absolute ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ bonker bonuses that make the early game near-impossible and only one or two builds are truly viable on it. But if you pass early game, the rest of the game becomes a trivial, boring slog again.Through all the overly expensive and complicated mechanics they love to add through overpaid DLCs, the core game has only been getting worse and the core issues with the game have not received any attention. If you have people to play Stellaris with, it's worth it. If you don't, don't bother. The single player experience is fun for a first few playthroughs, and once you get the hang of the game, it becomes either incredibly easy and boring, or it forces you into the few playstyles that can be minmaxed to tits to give you a chance on the highest difficulties. The game in general relies on this sort of difficulty, where nothing happens for 90% of the time, and then some random event comes in and if you weren't prepared for it you're ♥♥♥♥♥♥. So not only are you bored most of the time playing this game but once it's supposed to get exciting you feel cheated rather than challenged.Random events pop up all the time and one of my ironman grand admiral runs was lost because I scanned an anomaly that spawned fanatical purifiers that had 12K fleet power 50 years into the game. At some point you have to ask yourself how much arbitrary difficulty bonus is fun and how much just ruins the game. And yet, Stellaris is incapable of achieving any kind of challenge without this. The whole balance is terribly tuned.I've been following Stellaris for years and every time I come back to it I swear it's gotten more dull and annoying.


My opinion is still the same. The game only gets worse and more annoying over time.

The game has clunky controls that are rough getting used to, and personally I also think it has UI problems that weren't there in the original.

AI is terrible. Both of your seedlings, which prioritise targets randomly, often griefing you and your strategies. A lot of luck is involved in how the AI chooses to randomly play, or what asteroids you and they start with. And of the enemy AI as well. It plays really stupid and makes dumb decisions. Game is only challenging when opponent starts with really strong seedlings without owning any strong asteroids. Arbitrary difficulty.

Game is trivial when the AI doesn't get these advantages, even though it wouldn't have to be. There is a lot of depth in this game, depth that is untapped because it is neither a multiplayer game nor is the AI to fight in single player any good. Soundtrack is lovely. It's a great casual and relaxing game if you're not overly interested in strategy like I am. Unfortunately I got hooked on the interesting (but underused) mechanics but was left wanting and thoroughly unsatisfied by the end.

I cannot recommend this game for the price it stands at. There is too much wasted potential here.

The perfect piece of media for describing trauma and PTSD. Anyone with depression should play it, especially if they've undergone a traumatic event in their past that was/is difficult to get past. Don't let the psychological horror tag scare you away from this experience.

Great game even if mental health isn't a relatable topic for you. Plenty of humor and interesting combat mechanics, as well as a godlike soundtrack.

All around terrible, inconsistent and glitchy experience. All the effort for realism makes mechanics clunky instead of immersive or enjoyable. Spend your money elsewhere. The combat is also unrealistic and clunky. What's the point of good world-building if having to play in that world is not just not fun, but torture? Nothing about this game feels fleshed out or polished.

Beautiful soundtrack, pleasing aesthetic, unique and creative mechanics, easy to follow UI. If you go for all the achievements it can be quite a challenging strategy/puzzle game too. I honestly don't understand why this game didn't get more attention when it came out. There are perhaps parts of the game that could be better (such as more planet customization, or better zoom and control of camera), but those would be just nitpicks. I would recommend this game to anyone that likes god games.
