The campaign is only interesting in that it pushes the arma storyline further. I get they wanted to be deep but instead they just made several very boring missions and as usual packed the DLC full of fun mechanics for your next mission. But here's the trick: it's all included anyway for you to play with for free. So only buy if you want to hear some journalist and some nobody talk for several hours about random ♥♥♥♥ with interesting altis lore every now and then.

I had more fun using the debug command to attach tanks to the drones in the campaign and watching them crash trying to fly and spawning a nuclear bomb to demine the village. Fun fact, you do not actually need to dig up the mines. Turning on a nuclear bomb (in zeus) will destroy all the mines lmao. Zeus enhanced mod adds the bombs, single player cheat menu for zeus in any mission.

this is coming from someone who enjoys non combat missions but guess what after an hour and a half of running from a to b and then b to a and then a to b again it gets old. East wind had same issue. Far too much ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ around way too little showing me the story.

They closed the studio and left the game in an incomplete state with many bugs. Get KSP1 instead.

Slight spoiler alert.

It's a metroidvania with a "hidden" ending. There are a number of problems with this and let me start by saying I am not some platforming god so take that into reading my review. I will start with the combat.

In general the combat feels alright, the sound, animation, and the swings themselves hit nicely and leave an impact. At a basic level it's pretty entertaining. You have dodge, swing, and jump which make it straightforward. Then they introduce weird gameplay mechanics that complicate the combat. Then they introduce enemies that are meant to be killable mainly through these new mechanics that become regular enemies. Obviously this is a staple of metroidvanias but it just felt like a wet noodle slapping around to me. None of the abilities felt interesting. At some points they even introduce form changing (you turn into a horse person at one point) then proceed to force you into boss battles with the new forms. Very jarring.

The world is cool too. It feels like it belongs in some retro universe, like the one it was written into. But the world is kinda... complex? The characters talk a lot about the world they live in, in ways that just confused me. I'd say 99% of the time I was asking myself where I even was. You start in a garden but then walk into some weird hub world... I didn't even know it was a hub world until i came back after world 1. That same non-sensical-ness is everywhere. I had no idea what the world was supposed to be most of the time, like world 1 is apparently a medieval world what with the horses, stables, kings, knights. But they've twisted it into a Narita boy way as to just kind make it look like a mishmash. When it works it works well but the other times it's a neon mess.

Movement was perhaps one of the worst parts. I dont know what it is but there are some places where movement sucks. The dodge skill helps cover the walking simulator bits but sometimes it just makes you get cardio for some reason. At one point you have to avoid puddles formed by the rain. Not discolored puddles or something, just puddles that are maybe a line of pixels on the screen. You unlock the ability to "surf" on all water/puddles (no matter how tiny) but I had more issues discerning what was and what was not water. Then, if you surf onto land and dont manually dismount, you are forced through this animation of your character eating ♥♥♥♥. Why does that exist? I want to keep playing, it was cute once.

By far the worst part is the story. I played for 32 hours and still don't exactly know what I was doing. The entire plot of the story is to unlock memories of the old man that is (isn't?) the main character about how sad his life has been so far. Just so we're clear you are not the main character and as far as I can discern none of this is relevant. It's just a bunch of black and white cutscenes with sad music. There is no character development outside these cutscenes. "Narita Boy" is just some faceless, nameless, kid who got kidnapped by a creepy old dude into his digital dungeon. You are then expected to just go to the right for a while to move forward. The absolute worst part was theres no backtracking. If you miss a part of the hidden ending, it's gone forever unless you restart from the beginning. Why? This basically is the entire premise of the game: "why?". Why is this save point back here? Why do bottomless pits deal damage when there's a save point adjacent to them? Why does this boss not let me dash through them sometimes? Why does the horse suddenly become a mech? Why are the hidden ending collectibles in random, totally nonsensical places?

Why should I bother spending 20 dollars on this game when it's less than 5 on ♥♥♥?
If you want a metroidvania, play Ori. If that isn't hard enough for you, download Dolphin and emulate some older games.

DLC is clearly not worth it but the base game is pretty awesome.

youve probably already heard of it at this point and it's just as janky as all the videos. Of course when you're in a discord call with 6 other people playing the game nobody really cares. Playing alone or trying to make the game do anything will result in frustration.

Story was kinda cheesy but it's a game about a bard saving the world. You know what you're signing up for. Lots of music. It was very sweet, the characters in particular had a lot of growth. Also it reminded me a lot of super paper mario.
