Alice: Madness Returns.

(What is it?)

This game is a twisted take on Alice's wonderland, often macabre and dark, sometimes just gloomy, this game touches on topics like denial, insanity, murder and molestation, and the story is probably the darkest i've ever seen in a video game. The story has a TON of twists and plot holes, though i wont spoil it, if you have any triggers about rape, insanity, denial, murder and so on; do NOT buy this game.

Best storyline i've seen in a LONG time 9.5/10

(Is the gameplay good?)

In MY opinion, no, i do not like the platforming, and the combat is very flawed. The level design sometimes suprises me, but it's often just generic platforming with very little inspiration. I can tell that this game took inspiration from psychonauts and the previous alice game, however. it fails miserabely to emulate the charm and wit of those games. As quoting the children in the orphanage "Mad as a hatter, without the charm" I will not lie, the game has allot of suprises when it comes to gameplay, and dependant on what kind of gamer you are, these changes can make or break you. I did however feel a huge rush of adrenaline when in hysteria mode.

Decent-ish combat, but sub-par level design. 6.4

(How does the game look?)

Put Psychonauts in a blender, add some denial and a few doll heads, and some rabbit blood to boot. There's your game. In all seriousness though, the game looks amazing. The visual styles often remind you of how you're inside alice's broken mind. Graphical quality could be better, the post-processing is ugly, and the game doesnt run as well as it should.

Amazing visual styles, but i bet this game would run on the original xbox. 8.8

(So is this game right for me?)

If you're like me, you like a deep and dark storyline over amazing gameplay. The gameplay in this is not to my tastes, but the story is just perfect. I recommend playing the previous Alice, however, first. As I like a deep/dark story line WITH amazing gameplay, I'd play Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix over this any day, but this is so much darker.

If you liked the walking dead and psychonauts, yes, this game is right for you.

(Replay value?)

Nothing for me, i doubt i'll go anywhere near the game now that i've completed it.

SUMMARY:

8.5
The game is great, though very flawed, the story makes up for the lack of innovative level design, and shabby combat. If you're just in it for the combat, don't get it. If you want a story that will be in your mind forever, It's well worth whatever you pay.


Small update: Haven't played for about a year now, and I have no desire to.

Good but no D I C K S

Unlike ProjectorGames with FortressCraft: Evolved, Jforce Games has not changed this one bit, which is a very good thing. this game has absorbed countless time of my life, and for the one reason that it's an amazing game. the gameplay is solid even though a bit unfinished, and that's what i love about it; potential. with this game you can make your own maps for competetive or casual player vs player, or player vs AI, and other variations.
This is what we needed, ONE game from XBOXARCADE that the developers didnt ♥♥♥♥ up, and here we are: MURDER MINERS.
luckily, the best stayed the best.

A few downsides:
Very limited customization
Not very good for keyboard use
Very few options

HUGE upsides:
Amazing and addictive gameplay, worthy of an award or two in my honest opinion.
Great game-modes, like infection and survival (But infection's the best x3)
Ability to customize your character with many different colors, enabling you to personify yourself on the battlefield.
And my favourite thing? It's the same game, with more content, and more maps, for this jforce? thank you.

Definitely my favourite 2D platforming game of all damn time, stampers angelic voice just tops off the thrilling action that this game gives you, you'll die allot, so make sure you look good when you do it!

I hate to say this, but i've hinted at many ways to fix this game with no consideration whatsoever.
This game is bloody awful, a huge step down from the predecessor FortressCraft.
This abomonation feels like a bad minecraft mod, with cheesy, overdone 3d models that look lazily done, and not to mention the gameplay is elastic and horrible.
The old FortressCraft was beautiful, your only limit was your imagination, but on this? the limit is you might not have a super powerful computer, WITH THESE GRAPHICS, THAT SHOULD NOT BE NEEDED. OPTIMIZED MY ASS. NOT TO MENTION THE GRAPHICS, EVEN THOUGH REQUIRING SO MUCH, MANAGE TO LOOK UGLY AS ♥♥♥♥. This game blew up my last Power supply, so maybe look into that.
This game has an awful interface, confusing and downright stupid controls, and no point of purchase.
I can NOT express my hatred of this game through words, they have taken an amazing game and DESTROYED it.
If you like ♥♥♥♥♥♥ games that feel like chinese knockoffs of already mainstream games, hell, give this a go.
But if you're like me and want your MONEY'S WORTH, DO NOT BUY THIS.
Though there is SOME gameplay that doesnt make me want to gouge my eyes out with the rusty anus of a thousand demons, it is not worth the money. i feel pain for anyone else that has payed ♥♥♥♥ for this abomination.

(PS. the reason it's so different is because of death threats from minecraft fanboys, that projectorgames took seriously. yeah.)

(PSS. Nope, they will NOT fix this game, as it's already "GOOD")


Summary 4/10

A game i grew up with, i remembered it being great, but to be honest, it's quite a dissapointment, the game is still buggy as ♥♥♥♥ even being 15 years old, the controls are godawful, the optimization too, and the voice acting and overall effort of this game is sloppy at best.
I would NOT recommend this game, if you're expecting a deep storyline with amazing gameplay.
i WOULD however, if you like to master games, having quick reactions and so on really makes this game enjoyable.

Summed up: 6/10
Sloppy work, engine is broken, controls are broken, the GAME is broken.
The story is like it's been written by a 5 year old with dylesxia and down's syndrome, that has been hit in the skull numerous times.
ONLY buy on a deal, this game is NOT worth the money you pay at full price.

also, steam version is screwed, so if you DO buy this game, fix it with BubbleGumBalloon's SADX patch.

An amazing experience with memorable characters, amazing quotes and captivating storyline, a must-buy.
