As fun as traversing the Swedish country side is and the gun play that feels good to shoot, this is a boring game. Many of the locations are the same assets completely void of anything to shoot, just random boxes that each contain 7 bullets and a simple medkit. Its even worse when exploring one of the bunkers, just huge empty tunnels with the same looking rooms. Guns are identical besides how many stars they have. Robots with a simple swarm AI that can range from annoying to baby easy.

I played this years ago before this review and it was pretty bare, I returned recently and found they had added base building but I couldnt do much of it as the resource collecting was added in some time during my break and I had almost nothing to build with. There's some base defense missions you could replay, I can see the fun in testing your buildings against waves of robots but I didnt get to experience it.

The combat is the same as it was years ago. Enemies spot you from far away if not sneaking and can take an entire clip or just a few rounds depending which component you hit, luckily I somehow found an experimental rifle and sniper that melts enemies but when fighting large squads and hunters and dogs, it still gets annoying. Idk if it was just the regions I was exploring but all the guns I came across were identical; the pump action shotty, hunting rifle, 7 round pistol.

As far as Im concerned, this IS the original.

Ive pretty much completed everything there is currently but it's been fun. It's like a top-down Terraria.

I will say the requirement of placing a minimum of 72 spike traps for the second boss is crazy but thats the only real complaint I have.

Went back to this due to nostolgia and remembered all the little nuances and I couldn't help make comparisons to Borderlands 2. Bl2 truly is just a better experience in every way. Here are some things I noted during my recent playthrough:
-All guns look the same. Literally every gun type will have 2 cosmetic variations and do something like fire in bursts or very very slow rof.
-Guns are very inaccurate. They don't really behave like guns, every shot will spray in a random direction in a cone and sometimes it feels like the bullets teleport behind my target.
-Braindead enemies will stand still and spray you with hit-scan. Your shots aren't hitscan btw
-Wildlife will charge you down. This is annoyingly true during the first couple hours fighting alpha skags.
-The world feels somehow lifeless. I think it's the voiced dialogue missing when you take quests or the lack enemies talking smack at you or making quips when dying but I feel like I'm just wandering around a grey 3D sandbox doing quests and shooting code

I can't think of anything this games does better than Borderlands 2 tbh.. I like the compass, I look at it sometimes. If you really want to play this it's fine as a game but the true Borderlands experience lies with 2.

I had fun for a while and tried to keep going with it but at this point I'd rather just play something else.

Selling items is a hassle because you need to sell something new one at time (not the whole stack) to gauge what price customers like, then at that point you just slowly sell all your spoils.
Combat is very clunky and isn't omnidirectional. Very often my attack didn't buffer because I wasn't mashing (A) to keep the combo going. Combos are simply a 3-hit with (X) being a weapon specific special. I want to move diagonally but it feels like your character moves slower if you do so, and due to some floor hazards it's necessary to attack diagonally but you can only face in 1 of 4 directions. There's a dodge roll but it just catapults you in a direction where you'll likely land in a poison puddle or touch an enemy.
What killed my interest is having the boss from Forest 2 spawn in Forest 1 then bug out when I killed it and it soft locked my run.

It's not a terrible game but there's better things out there.

Combat is simple and jank, building can be very creative but limited on structural integrity. I should be able to build a 3 story house out of wood dang it. Travelling the map gives me some nostalgia of travelling in Morrowind or Oblivion, making rest stops and discovering encounters. I would like to play as a dwarf please.

With the right combination of scrolls and guns with modifiers, you can get some really fun and broken builds.
You also play as aminal.
