𝗛𝗢𝗪 𝗧𝗢 𝗜𝗠𝗣𝗥𝗘𝗊𝗊 𝗙𝗢𝗥𝗭𝗔 𝗠𝗢𝗧𝗢𝗥𝗊𝗣𝗢𝗥𝗧 𝗗𝗥𝗜𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗊

I’m not saying it is the best, I just see Forza as some sophisticated simulation working for too many years and some people believe that's an unfair or unbeatable advantage. I don’t think that, given the proper work to convince me.

𝙒𝙃𝘌𝙏 𝙏𝙊 𝙀𝙓𝙋𝙀𝘟𝙏

Here’s inside the British and both GT3 and GT4 cars including the tracks of its respective events, and of course its drivers. More about that down the review because of the DLCs, this isn’t exactly a slideshow of “civilian” cars; I love them but the thing here is about the corpo cars, filled with corpo decals, rather than fantasy racing running all naked. Given that, naturally the game abides to Blanpainc rules and regulations. You can race casually, but this isn’t one of those games.

Steering and artificial intelligence is slowly nearing there, even if with unstable curving trying to maintain it, still I have never experienced this before and you can impress other game’s drivers. Everytime I run Assetto Corsa Competizione I can almost smell the gas, if it wasn’t for a few things that still aren’t quite there but hopefully will one day. If you’re interested in this only for screenshots or to admire the scenery, random npcs or how good the grass looks, you got another thing coming. The graphics didn’t impress me and screen shot “cinema hud” options are weird to work with.

https://gtm.you1.cn/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2513870458

Those are tertiary elements in the scale of importance. What the driver is really interested in after buying; emulation, simulation, steering - I emphasize that part, and competition with all that in motion. But if they want us to truly smell the carbon dioxide, they gotta work more on the outtern details too, more immersive particle effects. That screenshot has filters and reshade mods that the game should have in first place, that impacted my final scoring in this review.

𝗊𝗧𝗘𝗘𝗥𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗜𝗊 𝗊𝗚𝗣𝗘𝗥𝗕 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗗𝗘𝗧𝗔𝗜𝗟𝗊 𝗧𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗘𝗊 𝗪𝗜𝗧𝗛 𝗜𝗧

My first phase testing with the Lamborghini Youngster Programme was humiliating, as if I have never been behind any steering wheels. Yes I had to borrow from a nearby friend just to feel like a pro, but once I returned it, I had to readapt myself with a Xbone joystick - but don’t think this limited me, I managed to program it for the level of realism I like even with a joystick.

https://gtm.you1.cn/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2513903037

After taking care of my control situation, I decided to tweak my black demon. They give you a Huracàn Super Trofeo that growls like a devil hissing for meat, demanding sacrifices in the temple of speed. The devs decision to start the career at Monza was just too right.

So instead of 60 liters - the default fuel quantity they give you, I deducted only the enough amount for 5 laps instead around 21 liters, super basic but we tend to forget about these - because the game isn’t interested in doing everything for me which is great. Easing pressure, caring about the brakes and other dynamics and vóila, I could finally reach third to last position (better than last position) and with better knowledge I started climbing the ladder. I’m more interested in learning through experience and readings, but you can always look for setups around the the internet and then place it on your files and load it up.

𝗔𝗊 𝗜𝗙 𝗜𝗧 𝗪𝗘𝗥𝗘𝗡'𝗧 𝗣𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗊𝗔𝗡𝗧 𝗘𝗡𝗢𝗚𝗚𝗛, 𝗧𝗛𝗘𝗡 𝗧𝗛𝗘𝗥𝗘'𝗊 𝗊𝗧𝗜𝗟𝗟 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗥𝗔𝗜𝗡

The dynamics are so beautiful and harmonical, so realistic, I could finally see why some pilots in history performed better during rainy weather, to experience that for the first time in my gaming life - ever. Guys like Ayrton Senna in the F1 category for example and so many others.

The fight is different during the rain in the real world, your worries are condensed and the car and the tires are sliced. Little to none beneficial things like cooler brakes and bad omens like thin layers of water under the tires. A driver in the rainy weather would prefer to use the best line to avoid that part of the track that still is wet, not just water puddles because it is more complex than that - the fight during rainy weather is different and this is simulated on where it should. ACC proved me I’m a rainy racer, having greater time results whenever Jupiter is angry.

𝙍𝙀𝘌𝙇𝙄𝙎𝙏𝙄𝘟 𝙍𝘌𝘟𝙄𝙉𝙂 𝙏𝙀𝙉𝘿𝙎 𝙏𝙊 𝙎𝘟𝘌𝙍𝙀 𝘟𝘌𝙎𝙐𝘌𝙇 𝙁𝙐𝙉

That doesn’t mean the casual should avoid it, but I’m afraid they would rather play something else, Competizione still can be tough even on easier modes. The setup isn’t like Dirt Rally 2.0 for example, with bars to slide around even on advanced setups (you’d see bars but it’s different) you either know what you’re doing or you do not. It is intuitive enough to keep you interested in it, experimenting, but you will need to know it anyway because there are not enough hints if you’re out of place. There are only a couple of basic pre-settings, but very often they’re not enough, just a rough bet for the things you’re going to face.

The hud seems overwhelming at first but you can remove things. I don’t recommend that because the devs thought about everything, even swapping colors in the speed meter when you need to shift but got no time to look at it, meant to alert your peripheral vision.

𝘌𝘜𝙊𝙐𝙏 𝙏𝙃𝙀 𝙑𝙍 𝙏𝙃𝙄𝙉𝙂

I don’t own any VR and no hero in my vicinity does, can’t rent around here either so you won’t have my views on that, as ironic as it sounds. There is a camera angle you can choose like a first person view from inside the helmet, but I don’t see much bobblehead physics, maybe it wouldn’t work? There is no gravity simulation shaking that camera angle nor when I brake too hard and I think simulation should start thinking about that.

𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗧𝗛𝗘𝗬 𝗊𝗛𝗢𝗚𝗟𝗗 𝗙𝗜𝗫 - 𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗡𝗧𝗢

  1. The crowd people are what we call “cardboard audience” here where I live, very outdated. When the crowd is 3D (npcs from the pitstops for example) they’re badly animated. We’re not in 2006 anymore, so please.

  2. Rain sprites droplets are nasty, like most frames based graphics in this game are and it needs updating. It isn’t better, not even in “epic” settings. More particles are needed too.

  3. Not so rarely, impact sound effects are just repetitive even when you’re performing something else not related to that. You’d hear some clanks and bumps when not clanking nor bumping, although minimal it is undermining the attention to details it already has.

  4. Artificial intelligence does suffer from the conditions of the track, but it could be better. Most super simulated games only think about you and your sweaty fights. AI needs to be prone to mistakes more often, maybe some sort of fear-factor and stress like humans do. I don’t know how the hell they would do it, but it is awful to see that they don't do much.

  5. The game demands more identity, and the career mode is the way to do that. You’re welcomed by pilot Mirko Bortolotti himself trying to warn/prepare you for what is about to come, then not much is shown, game needs more style. Not just cosmetics but further expansion of career mode. I just think details aren’t enough to rival other games right now.

About DLCs It could have been worse but they removed Imola circuit from the base game. Placing immortal classic circuits in different packs is as bad as car packs. They compressed it with little decency left, should stop increasing it as the base game isn’t really that cheap either. Just wishlist these and wait for a discount.

This is the best bad game I have played in a while, granting me an entire full hour of good laughs. Every few minutes was funny for all the wrong reasons. I can't refund this because it was a multi game bundle and I won't refund WD1 - I did this stupid mistake so you don't have to. At least I’ll laugh hard still. I disapprove anyone trying to make a cyberpunk world looking sunny, shinny and happy, specially if it is so pretentious.

𝘐𝘛 𝘞𝘈𝘚 𝘏𝘈𝘙𝘋 𝘍𝘖𝘙 𝘔𝘌 𝘛𝘖 𝘍𝘐𝘕𝘋 𝘙𝘌𝘓𝘐𝘈𝘉𝘓𝘌 𝘜𝘕𝘉𝘐𝘈𝘚𝘌𝘋 𝘙𝘌𝘝𝘐𝘌𝘞𝘚 𝘉𝘌𝘍𝘖𝘙𝘌 𝘉𝘜𝘠𝘐𝘕𝘎

Why this piece of crap is being positively voted for the past couple years shows that players are enjoying something. But when I get there to read their reviews, 98% of them are one-liners trying to hit the score or act funny, but saying absolutely nothing clear, pretty much useless. IGN is out of option for me and Angry Joe is too immediatist. So I had to hunt for good writers from the group I participate in who own the game. Around better articles it is different though, it wasn't as loved as it is loved on Steam. But why?

My best bet is that this game is easy fun when it comes to the Online counterpart, more up to Steam's majority.

Good for the development team I guess, but definitely not something they would ever do again - the development used by the company I will describe in this review doesn't appear to run with "Watch Dogs Legion" proving that WD2 vision ultimately failed, so I'm not crazy to think differently here. WDL is much more dense and mature and less open-ward, (still looks downgraded) and the first game still is much denser, even if not perfect. WD2 for me is way behind both games.

𝘐𝘛 𝘐𝘚 𝘚𝘖 𝘙𝘐𝘋𝘐𝘊𝘜𝘓𝘖𝘜𝘚 𝘐𝘛 𝘔𝘈𝘒𝘌𝘚 𝘔𝘌 𝘍𝘌𝘌𝘓 𝘚𝘖𝘙𝘙𝘠

Right off the boat, every single screenshot you have ever seen and video you have ever watched from official sources are nothing but bullshots. I'm running this crap on ultra mode, with 100% geometrical adjustments. You know who created the game so nothing new there. But instead of downgraded, this looks threshold locked which is even worse.

You may make better judgments if you watch youtube videos, preferably from small channels 'cause graphics are aging terribly. So the situation here is due a bigger open world demanding a different approach - including the Online mode. Got it, this isn't about density and details but about open wards and expanded field of view, but I just don't like it. Possibly the reason why I hate it.

Graphics irritates me because it doesn't know what to prioritize and I'm tired of working around for xitty games to work better. Some graphics are definitely CPU intensive yet it doesn't favor the cause even for someone with 20 threads. This downright looks like bolt-locked intentionally. Perhaps to please their console overlords to keep up the "who's better" war, maybe it's too hard for them to port it to everyone. Fine, but not when even NASA can't run it, not because the engine is fantastical but because something is triggered or misplaced.

▀ ⠀⠀At the very first two minutes, you start questioning what's the problem with the company's vision off women. Sorry friends, but when a company isn't from the Americas it usually tends to be antiquated (as worse as you can find here).

The very first girl that shows up is a irritating selfless arrogant qunt possibly through the whole game, just another repetition of personality from another uninspired character. Every voice from everyone of everything you click to hear is just talking, most voices are not even acting. Some made me laugh hard so awful it is.

▀ ⠀⠀Every single character overplays how cool they are, a massive wannabe espectacle.

The hacker culture portrayed in this game is decades late, possibly due misuse of the art design, juvenile, idiotic. When I say cringey, I mean cringey, it is pathetic to watch. It isn't oldschool or retro or anything cool. It's just bizarre, uninspired. Trying to be different. Like when you see an old guy trying to look like a millenial to better fit the group, instead of being himself. I can't stand watching a bunch of drunk clowns trying that hard without laughing my ass off.

▀ ⠀⠀Idiotic controls trying to look different. Game wanna be different, dawg. Wanna overplay too bro?

So completely remove the pause menu from any immediate button. Then press RIGHT TRIGGER to climb up things - yes, an analog pressure button for climbing. Forget about a crouch button, let the game decide for you instead. That will work.

𝗚𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗰𝗌𝗺𝗜𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗹𝗌𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗌 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗜 𝗰𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗰 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗌𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱/𝗌𝗿 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗎𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝘀𝗌 𝘆𝗌𝘂'𝗿𝗲 𝗳𝗌𝗿𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗌 𝗿𝗲𝘄𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗌𝘂𝗿 𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝘆𝗌𝘂 𝗜𝗹𝗮𝘆 𝗶𝘁. 𝗜𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗌𝗹𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗌𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗌𝗱 𝘁𝗌 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗌𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗎𝗲 𝘆𝗌𝘂 𝘁𝗌 𝘀𝘄𝗮𝗜 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗎𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗌𝗌 𝗺𝘂𝗰𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗞𝗲𝗲𝗜 𝗜𝗹𝗮𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗎 𝗶𝘁 𝗺𝗌𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗱. 𝗜𝗳 𝘆𝗌𝘂 𝗱𝗶𝗱𝗻'𝘁 𝗞𝗻𝗌𝘄, 𝗻𝗌𝘄 𝘆𝗌𝘂 𝗞𝗻𝗌𝘄.

Yet due reasoning, 99,999% of every game would probably give you a 2D directional pad to open in-game cellphones, sub commands not straight related to the gameplay and esc or start button would be for pausing. But in WD2 it was a better decision to do the reverse, removing the immediate pause menu, placing a cellphone on its place instead.

If you need to pause the game you must either click two to three times (pause, left to pick the game options, click the options then pause) or take a shortcut for the map. Navigating in fictitious apps installed in the cell phone trying to emulate real ones (including the Ubisoft app store itself on it) so the cellphone is another immersion fourth-wall breaker, as most Ubisoft games are nowadays for the sake of its online store.

▀ ⠀⠀NPCs on the sideways overreacts for every little insignificant move that you do. Including walking around.

They keep jumping to the left and right as if I was about to run over them. They're a bunch of idiotic dummies with no possible behavior check sum. I was assaulted and beaten by a skinny middle class neighborhood lady because she got spooked for my bike breaking 2 meters away. But hey, thanks for providing realistic fog in San Francisco, that's far more important.

NPCs in the sideways are so retarded it reminds me of ludicrous games like Saints Row. It is okay when it is done in games like that, but my brain refuses to accept this as a serious plausible thing for a game talking about oppression and corruption and corporate greed and all that xith.

Final score: 4.5/10

Most of my friend's list seems to have played it for 50 minutes, so if you just want to buy it to accumulate for card farming, there are less expensive games out there for doing that. If only for the screenshots, so that's another thing for you to weight as well.

I think this game deserves a rightful deep insight because after being overloaded by it. The importance of it nowadays, the example it sets for gaming and why I believe you should reserve this game a special place.

𝐈𝐓 𝐑𝐄𝐒𝐏𝐄𝐂𝐓𝐒 𝐘𝐎𝐔 𝐀𝐒 𝐀 𝐆𝐀𝐌𝐄𝐑 𝐑𝐀𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐑 𝐓𝐇𝐀𝐍 𝐉𝐔𝐒𝐓 𝐀 𝐂𝐔𝐒𝐓𝐎𝐌𝐄𝐑

I can see how one influences another, but the story mode isn't harmed so Online can exist, you’re not going to be harassed by any micro transactions while on singleplayer. The Online is just a choice by definition, you even have the option to turn off friend’s invites. There will be no propaganda of other games in the menu either, like Ubisoft and Capcom usually do. There is no immersion breaking items demanding you to pretend they aren't there.

I was afraid of buying this because I was skeptical that a game could be better than RDR1 with John Marston. I also avoided it due the highly inflated price in my country (bolsonaro vai tomar no cú). I had a sellout discount then it was my best chance. This game is a perfected RDR1 if such witchery is even possible.

𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐁𝐄𝐒𝐓 𝐎𝐅 𝐈𝐌𝐌𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐈𝐎𝐍 - 𝐖𝐎𝐑𝐋𝐃'𝐒 𝐅𝐈𝐍𝐍𝐄𝐒𝐓

If you’re not an immersive gamer, you’ll learn to be. There are a lot of gameplay mechanics to suit every gamer but they’re so intuitive and sophisticated, it tends to incentivize you to adjust to it, this is a survival hybrid game. You can be the good-bad guy (the canon R* expects from you), be a chill Boomhauer or just be the bad-bad guy. Sneak, bomb, kill, hunt, whatever you wish or if chaos suits you, even the smallest of things got a lot to show as you have probably heard already. When it comes to feelings however, assuming you were convinced to accept the story's pace, you'll have time to feel incredible moments and to see beautiful places, especially with decent graphics. Not everything will depend on it though, only a few games can break the boundary between here and “there” merely by some flow.

𝐊𝐄𝐘 𝐖𝐎𝐑𝐃: 𝐓𝐑𝐈𝐁𝐀𝐋

Many tribes consider wolves to be related to humans, because of the wolf’s dedication to its pack. Loneliness can trigger immersion, sometimes it is the world or the time period, sometimes it's everything combined. RDR2 story mode has all that, but it also adds bounding. A gang can trigger unique immersion, until the point of feeling at home, then you know the writer was inspired, voice and body actors were on fire and the development team resonated. As important as “your people” are, so must be “your foe”, giving reasons and further tightening that bounding. Comradery is also in many other games like Mass Effect, Republic Commando, FC Primal, even Lost and Damned and Cyberpunk nomads living in my soul. But it is definitely the first time I feel it in my blood.

If you wish to get high with such sweet endorphins, you can start by dealing with what you don't believe. Like killing, brawling or robbing imprudently (you will do that a lot) or fall to redemption. Of course I despise gangsters but I can see why they can't fit in. So, it is easy to find spatial immersion, but easy to get it busted too. Someone may storm your room, maybe your neighbor is a noisy ass messing with your focus or perhaps your cat is very sick today. Until they’re gone or if you go fix them, and of course, you must pay attention to the story 😂

If you think immersion is for crazies, here’s what J.R.R. Tolkien once said about the importance of suspension of disbelief;

"[The author] makes a secondary world which your mind can enter. Inside it, what he relates is true: it accords with the laws of that world. You therefore believe it, while you are, as it were inside. The moment disbelief arises, the spell is broken; the magic, or rather art, has failed. You are then out in the primary world again, looking at the little abortive secondary world from outside."

If you think Tolkien was crazy at least you’d respect him more than you respect me.

𝐎𝐍𝐋𝐈𝐍𝐄 𝐌𝐀𝐘 𝐇𝐀𝐑𝐌 𝐈𝐓

Now while that mode preserves some of it, surely isn't the same direction. It jeopardizes most of the immersion, starting by the "Online" title. You can fully customize a character but he/she lacks voice, like GTAO because of cutscenes with other players, thus it has no substance (still got some story progression) but things are less dense. In order to maintain the sync, some open-world details and features were removed. It lacks new content, it has microtransaction for gold ingots, unpredictable players are annoying and messes with hunting, because chaos rules. Overral; It is a different driving force that requires a mood I don't always have.

𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐑𝐎𝐂𝐊𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐑 𝐒𝐎𝐏𝐇𝐈𝐒𝐓𝐈𝐂𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍

  1. Options are as complete as GTA V, you can tweak a lot of things from controllers to color blind. Every game should give you these options specially for keyboard gamers to adjust.

  2. After GTA V for PC, the first person perspective became a regular option as the third person still is the default one. That's the quality bar Rockstar has set.

  3. If you’re investing in new hardware, your sacrifices will be really worthy. I usually criticize R* porting to PC, even if you still can’t peak 60 fps you’re going to blow away anyway.

  4. All the galloping and walking physics & animations are so incredibly realistic on snow, mud, slopes e et cÊtera, you get visibly dirty when deep on the mess.

  5. My nerd senses indicate a hundred scripts are running in the background. Things like, when I first had a lucky hunt, the camp was visibly more active, happier. I don’t know what sorcery stabilizes it, for it is polished enough to withstand most of it.

  6. The musicians did a phenomenal job transferring non-gaming culture. My jaw is always dropping, but the first action music that played crashed into outdated drums as if I was watching Bonanza or something.

  7. Detail is a self-interacting multi-cell organism without precedents. From animals eyes reflecting light, to fruits falling from trees. NPCs even save reactions for later, I saw 19th century brats in the alleys, dogs trying to dig under the fence. This is what an historian artist can do when he got the $ dinero to recreate it.

  8. Here’s hoping RDR1 will be remastered for PC one day and a singleplayer with cowgirls, they are badasses too. We like action and westerns are the best. As time passes, some things stays the same.

𝐖𝐇𝐄𝐍 𝐘𝐎𝐔 𝐆𝐎𝐓 𝐍𝐎𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐁𝐀𝐃 𝐓𝐎 𝐒𝐀𝐘 𝐁𝐔𝐓 𝐘𝐎𝐔 𝐌𝐔𝐒𝐓

I like to criticize and I finally managed to nitpick irrelevant things no one gives a xith about, but may be visible to vagabonds, so here I come;

  1. I wanted to rate this game as my first 10/10 but not after ERR_GFX_STATE issues. R* had plenty of time to stabilize Vulkan's and R* Social Club bugs and its overlay conflicts. As for ultrawide screens, no mod to remove black bars is reliable (including from photo mode). I tried to fix it but it's too risky to mess with protected games.

  2. The brain takes some time to hardwire all the contextual actions, they can be confusing. Stop exposing your guns when you try to speak or punching the horse when you just want to pat.

  3. I think that saving and loading the game should be more intuitive as the game itself. When you do mistakes you’d regret, it isn't very clear how to roll back. You think that sleeping acts as manual save, but you can only do so by the pause menu.

𝐅𝐈𝐍𝐀𝐋 𝐒𝐂𝐎𝐑𝐄 𝟵.𝟳

Devs of the world; shouldn’t you start doing it like R* does? Quit with all the singleplayer manipulation for the love of god. It is your job to avoid breaking it, not mine to accept or pretend. This game just proves it right.

THE SIMULATION IS NOT A JOKE

I hated Dirt 2 and refunded it because my arcade era is done. I asked for a real simulator. They got me the simulator I asked for and now I regret buying it, a self inflicted torture. I may advise you that this is only for the extreme lover, that wants to win as we do in any game, but won’t bother getting your bottom kicked very regularly, mainly by the environment and harsh grounds and maybe weather. It isn’t exactly that dramatic as I feel it could have been, and sometimes difficulty overshadows that fact, but still is a tough simulator to be reckoned. Some stuff won’t match the final product though, such as forcing you to respawn after taking a wrong cut - even if that cut is a 2 seconds away or 4 meters long then overly punishing you from 10 to 30 seconds, and awful things like time trial A.I. always so efficient and lawful no matter if you turn the unexpected events on or how hard the track is, A.I. to fail time is RARE. Pretty weird for A.I.s who can barely keep up on head to head lap racing, when they’re there physically.

WHERE THINGS SHOULD BE COMPLEX, IT HAS GOTTEN SMOOTHER

I have never seen such high end racing/rally simulator so easy to tune as DR2.0, easy to tweak and make sense of its logical implications (shown on screen) that it ends up being a little bad due the lack of details you will need, but good as you learn how serious this is, forcing you to ditch the easy sweet pie and go for the hardcore chilly. Obviously the complex mapping is there and you have the chance to tune in the pit services. Either way it is a good thing, if you like simulation but you’re not up for tuning the differential allignance in correlation with the frontal springs height, just tap that slider and hope for the best until you learn what the hail that means. Sadly, I see no complexity whatsoever when building the upgrades. What I think is that they exaggerated how easy and quick it should be.

WHERE THINGS SHOULD BE SMOOTHER, IT HAS GOTTEN COMPLEX

Never before, making a simple chicane was so hard to perform
a simple tight right turn, in any game I have ever played. At this point in history, using a driving wheel or a joystick to drive shouldn't be much of a trick, I had to reinvent the concept anyway - discarding my keyboard completely. I was forced to buy a Xbone joystick due lack of money, otherwise I would have bought steering wheels. Of course the hardship you’ll endure is more frequent in the DIRT tracks, which composes a large portion of the game, and by obvious reasons you’d be drifting for any reason, even after hitting that little rock there. I have crashed for bumping a Focus butt on a rotten wooden plate. Gravity punished my naive attempt after Newton’s basic laws of motion 200 kilometers per hour, F = Ma after all.

I DON’T UNDERSTAND WHAT THE EVENTS ARE TRYING TO DO

Not everything is impressive, some stuff acts weird, as if the game is overplaying how hard it is or something. Very poor decisions were made in regard to events, races, team assembling and garage. It may not look important to you, but any super simulator MUST give you real-everything not just just actual driving. Your garage is confusing, you can’t swap team members only buy new limited slots, can't swap Co-Driver, they're all limited only to evolving them with points. I can pick custom appearances so where is the Underground cool things such as posing for pictures and stuff? A pretty weak post/pre race presentation. The worst of it is how in the hell the devs thought that friggin Poland and Athens tracks would be BETTER for newcomers to start with, while still learning the thing, instead of some hybrid off and in some flat desert outside Europe. The feeling I have is that there is no time nor incentivations for learning, unless you’re smart and go random tracks for punishment, before taking the singleplayer odyssey.

THOSE BENJAMINS

The amount of DLC in this sheat is despicable and this review is only about the basic package that I bought on its discount. Now let’s talk about the previous Dirt Rally, that game was more acquainted with the limitations games impose in regard to your lack of training to do it. You didn’t need to be a professional suicidal rally driver to have good moments, so if you love some smooth simulation you can program and set everything, go for the other one. I disagree they’re the same and some claims I’ve seen, or that they’re bad. They’re both incredible games which the gods of time will have a hard time to make it older.

The contradiction of Dirt Rally 2.0 is to be ultra hard as bad as reality, while ditching everything that should surround it behind, but I guess the devs may be right for taking one step at a time. Example; Forza Motorsport didn’t become my favorite simulator outta blue, it took ‘em ages to get to the seventh - as the first remained the best for ages until that.

Let it sink and happy rally.

I hate sarcasm

You guys should stop complaining about your little rally fantasy, and the sophistication you were used seeing from Codemasters and deal with it. It is time to say goodbye to complex physics too hard for people to appreciate. It is now time to enjoy a buck-load of useless DLC you don't really need because they just look fun. It is time for you to stop being so serious and enjoy things with a simple mind, spinning around in neon lights with no gravity to worry as if you were playing a kid's game.

"Rally" is not even on the title anymore so why are you whining so much, can't you read English? This is a solid racing game, it was never meant to be a simulation. Also, this is Steam. Just buy the game for a while then forget about it forever. Just farm the rewards and move on.

Arcade they said. They weren't lying

So to settle this situation here, I will suggest the devs to give the game a different name. Maybe calling it "1/4 Dirt" or "Dirt half-Rally", it would definitely be more clarifying for dumb people like me who can't read. More arcade you say? Then the name of it should be "San Francisco Rushed" or "Rocket League but no." Perhaps it would work better than calling it as "Dirt" and expect people to just say "Hey, arcadey fantasy isn't that bad! Only the fans are mad! Haboobs!!" There will be a very limited tracks to run, repeating them over and over.

Let me make even more clear. This is like having the best car simulator ever made in human history, then swap the genre with ridiculous open world and call it Forza Horizon. Not the same situation but it is the same energy. They're insulting people's tastes at the cost of its name when they do that and the worst part is that people buys it. The reason they do that, it sells better and produces online activity. Ka-ching motherfᮀᮋᮋ. If the idea sticks, the game's origins will take longer to come back, IF EVER, because a simulator is much harder to create and to eventually sell - since the real fans aren't exactly 6 zeros.

Print the green paper

Stop complaining. Don't you have some sense of humor? Take your money and buy the joke Electronic Arts prepared for you - via subsidiaries, because they're afraid to show their logo with outsourced workforce. There is only 2 days free so hurry up! Then do a one-liner review with absolutely no insight on the situation, as you insult 2 decades of Codemaster's identity being thrown away willingly. They may call the next Dirt game as "Super Larry Kart" at this point ...assuming Codemasters will survive EA's chairman decisions. (more than 10 studios didn't).

PS: Donkey Frank Theodore kart will be sold in a separated DLC called "Studio's suicidal pack".

Since the game has been released years ago, back when I looked hotter and younger and happier, I'll try to be straight to the point with cons and pros for new arrivals. Anyone willing to try this game for the first time should know it wasn't overrated at all, due its brilliant marketing strategies. The GAME itself is actually very good too and aging well in many aspects, like the fabulous survivor combat and even a bit of the graphics. Another thing I must mention: this game was never intended to be ''horror'' but it still has more vile ambience into it, than other self-proclaimed horror made today, so that adds a lot of points for me.

While some others things aged terribly, like simplistic "fetch" quests, story feels too alongated and out of pace and repetitive boss fights. The reason that I like this version and abandoned the second game is that, just so you know, I feared the repetition of it. More down the review if you're interested to know. And of course, because the first you can have guns and rifles and even a buggie (dlc) you can use on the first game, that used to help cut the gameplay that can get repetitive. As for now, the second lacks some features, by lore design.

Pro: The magnificent programming

Forget about the night, it was just the perfect advertising for the game.

The A.I. for the rage zombies (that walks during the day) is so GODDIEAM perfect, any fight with them comes as an enraged epic blast. Like fighting my ex when on period.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n3mVOUZIHB0

To be honest I mainly played this game just to clash with them. I'm always running away from the nocturnal ones anyway and even that can turn out to be awesome, always, from dumb zombies to a creative variety of other things.

Circumstantially, blowing noises and other stimuli can drawn rage zombies them out, triggering situations on your gameplay that can decide extreme chaos and failure in a couple of seconds. If you see like 10 of then coming you're probably not gonna make it, so the strategies and dexterity the player must do, makes this game, arguably, the most fun first person survival horror of the past decade. Add the progress abilities with the difficulty in the blender and it flows just fine. The main difference being the parkour, although overlapping, it gives the paced modernity it needs.

Con: Abridged stupidity

For some weird reason, probably rushing, story starts good and keeps like that for a half the way.

Until it suddenly falls out of nowhere, missing frames, like when Peter Griffin stumbles. Late game gets so bad and predictable even my cat's intelligence feels insulted, even my dog feels dumber, by painful and cringey events trying to look cool, not even Disney would go this low. It wastes away nice voice acting and likeable characters, for monotonous obviousness scripted bullsheat.

Sometimes, events of the main quest are downright amateurish, like some dude's first mod for a game. The story has absolutelly no real connection with the time-line of the outside world, it certainly doesn't have the same quality, but okay. Sometimes it has some epic momments nonetheless - but it never combines with the rest.

The main reason for you to come to this game is the open world, the horror action, the fun with co-op. Don't kid yourself with anything else rather than that, because things will fall short.

TWO MEN ENTER, ONE MAN LEAVES

I don't like the outdated boss fights that falls into nuisance rather than challenging. The devs were still living on the thunder dome. When the villain shows up, lucky you, its time for the ARENA (again) and the never-before-seen GIANT ZOMBIE ATTACK!

The parkour as I said is organic to the year it was released. Hasn't aged very well though. You will fall from high climbing very frequently because there is no context or keys for climbing down. Again, because it tried too hard. If you want to release a ledge, you don't exactly have a key for that, you gotta pull down and that's just annoying. Funny enough, there is an assigned key for climbing down stairs, but not complicated ledges that needs precision.

BUST A DEAL, FACE THE WHEEL

The same goes for running. Quite literally the MAIN move of this game is overlapping the capacity of the controls. If you use a joystick on PC you may consider swapping for keyboard and mouse, because they assigned toggle-to-run for the left or right thumbstick on the joystick. There is not a way to change it to joy keys, only 2 layouts, bad devs decision. Frequently I don't even know if the running is toggled or not because there is no HUD on screen indicating that either. Console and joystick gamers that managed to play this thing makes them the ultimate dome warriors.

Bear in mind these cons may have been the devs being ahead of its time way too much.

https://gtm.you1.cn/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2412505406

CASH MACHINE

As it was back then and still is right now, game slowly turned a bit. You're constantly reminded of the second version while playing the first, there are far too many DLCs you will probably not even get to play it all.

I must report that the devs (probably not the original ones) stills updates the first game and not always for the better. As I said, for rage zombies to show up, noises and other things were needed. Now, specially at the old town, sometimes they just pop up. It is so blatant that they can just TELEPORT behind you and are more prone to bugs than ever before.

They probably updated it this way to pay homage to Cyberpunk 2077' police. Source: trust me bro.

Pro: Renewed genre

It restores the super overly-overused zombie theme, due the unpredictability of all the enemies, that can range from human A.I. with or without firearms - I may say shootouts can get really intense due the survivor difficulty it has, and creative variants of zombies such as the nocturnal ones. I may say that the possibilities of fun due the cooperative mode are quite endless. The challenge can be unforgiving and probably won't please any wimps. Combat is so on-point, it has this real weight on it, good animation and creative contacts, it made sure it would be fun again to kill zombies.

WARNER BROTHERS

Voice acting is really good, in particular to the main character that gave life to a lifeless thing. The original soundtrack also has this beautiful 1980 synth vibes but corrected to 21st century. Music often strikes O.G. movies like Terminator or Cyborg by accident, its damn good. Hollywood's maturity or style sometimes actually do some stuff right with games.

The atmosphere often gets so vile, due fantastical sound FX and composition too, it also is a very dark horror by its own merit, it can work out as horror perfectly specially when you get inside dark inners. That right there, the ambience is aging a draft vintage bush.

PROGRESSION SYSTEM

Very rewarding experience points system with multiple abilities. It never really turns you into a superman, rather more dynamic survivor, makes the fights more organic and fast if you even remember to use what you're unlocking. It is not exactly mandatory, the order is by choice as you pick the points. Night survival is tough, so you win more if you clash at night. From learning to create weapons from scratch to how to kill like a shadow. Think of the possibilities.

Final score: 8.5/10

The good aspects resumes into a decent structure that will be remembered for years to come. As for the second game, I have no interest in having it, specially now with everything so overcapitalizing. With this one I had enough fun, I rather go see something else new.

You find Ethan’s missing girlfriend Mia, in visible distress. She tries to attack him but she faints right after that, falling into the floor.

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐚 𝐲𝐚𝐮 𝐝𝐚?

𝓐- Make a dumb comment and leave her behind to resume your drawer opener quest.
𝓑- You check her pulse, take the risk and lift her to somewhere safer.
𝓒- You try to go with B but there is no context, so you pick A just to win a jump-scare.

If you picked C, that’s RE7 in a nutshell.

I used to watch the “Wolf Lake” series where Officer John was searching for his girlfriend, engulfed in a myth. What sold the idea was the true romance depicted in the first episode, I really wanted them to be together. So yeah, If there is no believable human element, saving her and surviving is just pointless. The only thing you have in RE7 is a single video with power-ranger body capture, then Mia’s situation through the game; annoying rather than worrisome. Game vaguely tried to build any connections only worsened by Ethan’s inexpressiveness. I had so little motivation to keep opening doors it was painful to finish the game.

Still a better love story than Twilight

  • PLAGIARISM

Capcom forgot that not every gamer lacks some culture. Some of us still read books and watch movies too. So whatever the audience they’re aiming at, cloning classic stuff from other media should have a limit. It doesn't and it is very cringe to watch. What made my eyes roll the most was “The Blair Witch's” famous last scene and “Saw” mind game. I actually did a big list of literal copy-pastes down the review.

YOU DON’T DO THAT. It is just inelegant and makes us gamers look like kiddos feasting from adults' remains. Games are totally capable of being original the best we can.

  • No support for ultra-wide screens

Developers creating games with no money such as “Outlast” or “Metro 2033” actually support 21:9 scale resolution. A giant corpo like Capcom couldn’t do it, leaving the job for the modders to fix it (barely) using my hex editor. They should be ashamed of themselves.

  • Master race disrespected, again

Ultra doesn’t look like ultra and of course there is no ray tracing option. Even using a SSD, the game flickers a little when loading bigger areas. UI won’t show you Xbox buttons if you’re using a keyboard, but the 2D directional pads from joysticks still are labeled on the inventory, very confusing to elaborate.

  • Bad-game reminder

Every time you see the main menu or when you run the game, some propaganda about “Resident Evil Village” will show up. You can choose to never show it again when you start, but of course a prompt will pop-up anyway. The main menu itself will still make sure you remember that fact.

  • Incoherent, inconsequential

During scripted events, you’re going to get stabbed, burnt, broken and mutilated until it becomes predictable. Sometimes the screen tells you to ‘’attack’’ but very often it won’t respond or makes no real difference. During gameplay, you can’t sprint nor dodge, you can only jog. You got poor control over it in both cases, you feel like a target dummy so vulnerable to all the grabbing and pushing. When you’re jogging away from Jack, one particular script seems to teleport him right behind you if you look back at him. These are the infantile features you will find in the game.

The mom teleported once, in some non-existent route and impossible time. There was a situation where Jack Bake was still alive and forced me to blow his head off even though I had no bullets left so the gun fired with no bullets. The game is constantly sacrificing the grounds it builds just to suddenly throw it away, for cheap jump-scares.

The green herb thing wasn’t enough for a first person game, so they added a liquid first-aid. That’s super genetics from RE’s universe but it still makes all the gore look like another Monday. Cut tissues and broken bones, wash with magic liquid, repeat.

  • Confusing art

I don’t understand what the art design tried to do. Is it mimicking the 70s somehow? If it is just the old house looking retro like that, why are outsiders still using VHS recorders in 2017 then? This isn’t like Fallout where you’re told this is alternative history. Why does Ethan doesn’t own a cell phone, is he’s a luddite? I refuse to take confusion as some sort of art.

Every single character will find a way to hold onto a VHS camera. When the tape is in, you’re in control. If both the character’s hands are busy, the camera still is aiming straight and recording. You got no satisfying oldschool effects, no glitches, no muffled sound, it is just unnecessary gameplay shoving reasons for tapes to exist.

  • Unintuitive

Ethan willingly entered an evil looking house where his annoying girlfriend and 20 other people disappeared, but he didn’t bring a single gun with him. Not a crowbar, not some friend to help.

Okay go get ‘em tiger. Ain’t got no time for readiness.

The punishment for such stupidity is to be stuck in rooms playing secret, fooled into believing that these things are puzzles, when in reality it's just a boring hide-and-seek game. The thing that you need to advance was just hidden under that little small thing you missed. Sometimes they’re not even hidden really. A shadow statue was just sitting there in the right position waiting for me to find it. Hidden specific crap = finding them is the solution.

But hey, at least Ethan brought a 1950 looking flashlight with him - with unlimited batteries. You’re not in full control of the flashlight anyway, another confusing thing. The flashlight is just another script, the player can’t toggle it on nor off. Go opinion, but there are plenty of other stuff like this dictating how I should play. Not scary, not creepy, all annoying.

Unoriginal

  1. Prologue sounds like “Dead Space” and Nicole’s disappearing, even the video and the emails reminds me of it.

  2. Mia Winters is suppose to be a homage to Mia Allen? The old car arriving at the house looks just like the beginning from “Evil Dead.”

  3. Entering the house looks like “Outlast.” Even a studio’s van is parked outside.

  4. I have found bizarre similarities from “Call of Cthullu’s: Dark Corners of the Earth'' when Ethan climbs down the basement before the ladder breaks. Not just the event is similar but the position of the hatch, a slope leading to the dungeon cells and beds and the sewer.

  5. The guy giving the back to the cameraman is from the last minutes of “The Blair Witch”.

  6. Hannibal’s famous brain scene is pretty much the essence of the family’s dinner.

  7. The Molded, black-mass monsters made me think of the Tar, from “Condemned 2” which the main character is also named “Ethan”.

  8. I uninstalled the game after the pathetic birthday party puzzle. It was just a Jig Saw's movie. I tried refunding but my time was expired (I tried to like the game)

Now, before anyone start with it, there is a difference between homage, inspiration and downright stealing. The thing has gotten so bad for Capcom they had to respond to actual judicial plagiarism over a few things recently. Yeah, no wonder why no one respects us gamers, we will forever be seen as third class underlings on the pantheon of storytelling media. Because someone will always just buy it without any resistance.

Final Score: 4/10

If you liked this review please follow my curator's page here!

Wait for more discounts before attempting to buy it. This is just pop culture claiming to be horror from someone else’s ideas, if you love horror you better stick with “Alien Isolation” or something older and keep waiting for “Scorn”.

I wrote an emotional letter to the Mass Effect trilogy some years ago, check on this Steam link a review for my favorite series ever. and this is how they pay me.

Half a dozen things no FAN should accept

I was so hopeful for 2017 like every ME fan was---but I couldn’t play it much.

I returned years later to play it and I noticed it has been severely tweaked.

Ugly scenes were deleted and I guess the awful facial animation algorithm was cut down. The game still starts strong, like a heart bomb, a known trait of the series. Then the results of Bioware's missmanagement comes out and starts to accumulate, slowly rendered the game boring until it became unbearable for me.

I always played the trilogy many times, but I never finished ME:A. The devs always avoided politics (naming real goverments or agencies) but now "Space X" refference rewrites the base lore. I decided it was time for me to quit it.

https://gtm.you1.cn/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2313161786
  1. The enemy A.I. is terrible, only higher difficulty helps it a little. For some reason 💲💵
💲 PvE got a much better A.I. almost too tough to beat.

  2. Dialog wheels often go nowhere. The story has a indescribable boring flow only worsened by terrible dialogues. There is no paragon and no renegade actions either. (maybe a very rare ‘’kill him’’ moment)

  3. Game is clearly trying to mimic previous Mass Effect moments and it is very goofy at that. Due ridiculous plot holes it almost looks like the new staff hates it.

  4. 90% of the time the orbit scanning is pointless. Space navigation looks dull, there is no bridge camera option, they even call it “Galaxy Map” when in reality it is just a single star cluster.

  5. Multiplayer got the microtransaction casino gambling, killing honest progression the multiplayer part could have had. At least MP is lore friendly and not mandatory.

  6. Plot holes are mixed with disgusting fan service especially with timelines rewriting the base lore.

  7. A Mass Effect without the Quarians is like Star Wars without the Togruta or Star Trek without El-Aurians.

Important fan note: Game is a shameless step-by-step ME1 reenactment, it shows writing insecurity and fear of failure. It is not a spiritual successor, inspired by, no. Its a pathetic copy-paste.

They did this "ancient lost civilization" all over again, there is the "Asari archeologist" you need to recruit. Then the funny old violent Krogan.

Peak-15 snow mission. Big space station mystery. An interview after returning from the first mission. Giant cyber monsters.

This game lacks the soul it is trying to mimic though. Not even the staff roll music was spared, not even the Geth. The enemy now is the “Kett”. Sounds similar.

Its not just because of no "Shepard" it's worst than that

Writing Lesson Number 1: In a different galaxy far away from the original lore, you need to create something ultra foreign so your audience can feel outta place; Masochist neon light aliens, translucent green flying chimps, invisible false gods beings and hermaphrodite snakes in the iron age, whatever, just be creative. But Bioware came up with the Angara and Kett instead. That's the main issue here.

What newcomers should expect

Some thinks it is okay for the fresh meat, people unaware of previous games, but the story certainly won’t attract any star gazers. It’s just generic Netflix sci-fi but the problem is the boredom. The Angarans first contact makes you feel like a real alien, that's cool.

But they’re not really interesting after that, so that’s a perfect resume for the game.

Everything good is immediately killed by embarrassing low-effort stuff. Any fan-fiction could have written the story a hundred times better than this, free of charge.

One of their cities is called ‘’Estraaja’’, just like “Australia'' with the accent and everything. This is the kind of creative poop running there. Lots of double vowels and double consonants trying to look alien. Ex: estrAAja and keTT and elAAden and havaRL doesn’t sound alien to me. I doubt a non-fan would enjoy that but maybe there is some room somewhere? I doubt it but there are some stuff out there to see I guess.

12 broken good things

  1. Combat is excellent and almost saves the game. The PvE horde mode survived and still is fun despite all the “surprise $$$ mechanics”.

  2. If you enjoy reading, this is the first game besides Elder Scrolls that I truly enjoy reading random stuff. Why are data-pads better written than dialogues?

  3. The open worlds aren't that bad, exploration hazards make you feel the colonist hardship but the distribution and conclusion of random quests are vague.

  4. Exploration can be really exciting on some worlds, mainly the desert one. The downside is the lack of a mini-map, it's a pain to keep mission tracking and compass isn’t exactly practical either.

  5. I like the comedic side of the game, it never overplays it. Some few characters have good moments, but there is always something slow or weak breaking them.

  6. Taking cover is adaptive, like it was with ME1 there is no button assigned for that. Oddly, you’re forced to swap sides manually.

  7. Graphics looks nicer when you’re not running it on an ultra wide monitor. It hasn’t aged as well as DA: Inquisition has. Havarl, the purple world is beautiful enough but the map is really small.

  8. Your character class isn’t exactly mandatory, you can rewrite or remix them so that’s good.

  9. New weapons are inferior in design, but the old ones still rock. Inventory is very confusing but you learn to navigate eventually. Holster animation is too fast and thermal clip is now called “ammo”.

  10. Biotics and tech are now a perfected version of ME2’s where the squad mates could perform satisfying combos. Even better on PvE.

  11. Music is generic. And it used to play a major role in the past. Think about that.

  12. Sometimes the real Mass Effect almost comes alive during good moments (frequently squandered by being too distant from one another.)

Who the F is John Paesano?

Do you know a band called Mechina? Click to hear The Horizon Effect and other albums. It isn’t hard to find talented sci-fi composers for games, they’re everywhere you just need to pick one. Better than hiring that guy with no experience on Sci-fi. Sorry dude, just, nope.

I’m the luckiest gamer alive

The game was so “good” in 2017 that I sold everything I had, including my expensive computer so I could afford to see my ex-girlfriend living in a small town 1000 kilometers away from me. You probably think it was worthy, so let me write you a lovely resume of my lovely story to warm up your heart.

𝒮𝒜𝑒 𝒷𝑒𝓉𝓇𝒶𝓎𝑒𝒹 𝓂𝑒 𝓉𝓌𝒟𝒞𝑒, 𝒜𝓊𝓂𝒟𝓁𝒟𝒶𝓉𝑒𝒹 𝓂𝑒 𝒟𝓃 𝒻𝓇𝑜𝓃𝓉 𝑜𝒻 𝒜𝑒𝓇 𝓅𝒶𝓇𝑒𝓃𝓉𝓈, 𝓉𝑜𝓁𝒹 𝑒𝓋𝑒𝓇𝓎𝑜𝓃𝑒 𝐌 𝓌𝒶𝓈 𝑒𝓋𝒟𝓁 𝒶𝓈 𝓅𝑒𝑜𝓅𝓁𝑒 𝓉𝓊𝓇𝓃𝑒𝒹 𝒶𝑔𝒶𝒟𝓃𝓈𝓉 𝓂𝑒. 𝐌 𝓌𝒶𝓈𝓉𝑒𝒹 𝒶𝓁𝓁 𝓂𝓎 𝓂𝑜𝓃𝑒𝓎 𝒶𝓃𝒹 𝓂𝓎 𝓁𝑜𝓋𝑒 𝒶𝓃𝒹 𝒜𝑜𝓅𝑒, 𝓈𝒜𝑒 𝓃𝑜𝓌 𝒜𝒶𝓉𝑒𝓈 𝓂𝑒. 𝒮𝒜𝑒 𝒹𝑒𝓈𝓉𝓇𝑜𝓎𝑒𝒹 𝓂𝑒, 𝒜𝑒𝓇 𝒻𝒶𝒞𝑒 𝓌𝒶𝓈 𝓉𝒟𝓇𝑒𝒹.

Final score: 6.0/10 - Not so much a bad game, as a failure to be a Mass Effect

Follow my curator's page by clicking here.

Your enjoyment will depend on a lot of factors and how far you can go. Wishlist this and wait for a big discount, perhaps it will be more worthy. The legend is dead for now. I hope Mass Effect resurrects for real one day and tries to convince me to sacrifice my girlfriend to a Reaper just to save the universe, instead of my own computer. 🀣

Kojima is but one great mind among many. Only praising Hideo’s Kojima as an LEGENDARY game developer - as if there is no team behind him, as if he was the only one, over and over everywhere I go? Such brain implant isn’t going to work with everyone. Those other names aren’t blessed by the same advertising methodology like Todd Howard. They're your gods until some Fallout 76 disaster comes out, then all that said “love” fades away.

When someone is truly legendary, you don’t need someone repeating it so we can remember. What we need is some self-awareness and independent-thoughts and a good dose of freedom, unless you’re willing to go back to the stone-ages. The past decade was pretty close to that so watch yourself out there.

THINK BEFORE YOU CLAIM SOMETHING IS BORING, THEN COMPLAIN AFTER THAT.

Some writers can go very deep in both spirituality and psychology, even existentialism, not very popular with some folks. Before claiming this game is boring, movies like Angel’s Egg could illuminate some people. The slow pace is slowly building those things I mentioned, the slow pace is required. Sadly when it is a game, it can affect the gameplay with a very long learning curve. When someone misuses that or overstays it there, then it is BORING - it is exactly the case here.

10 things that I like about Death Stranding

Those types of games usually lets you create your own character and customize hundreds of stuff. This isn’t the case here, but I must say this isn’t a rule so I got no problem with that.

  1. You can choose the “very easy” difficulty if you're a story-only kind of gamer.

  2. Immersion flanks differently than most games.

  3. The story isn’t exactly what I was told, but still got its own meritory moments.

  4. Sam is an imperfect hero and I always enjoy those types.

  5. I like the communion between sci-fi and fantasy. (sci-fantasy?)

  6. The terrain modeling was the reason I bought the game.

  7. Satisfying sci-fi design on suits, guns, equipment and vehicles.

  8. Voice acting during cutscenes are very good, with few exceptions.

  9. I like how this game braves uncharted mechanics like the 90s games used to do.

  10. Exploration, strategy, action, horror, fantasy, it’s everything here but not quite there.

Things that should be illegal

Games like this where the farming is so thorough, the reward is often reasonable with the stuff you go through. When I deliver I guess I’m being rewarded with MORE crap so I can build stuff to keep farming other crap. For better or for worse, the main reason is to progress the story that barely attaches me to any character, because the game persists in keeping weirdness going on while it drains humanity from them so I naturally stop caring about them.

  • PC platforms can do much better graphics than this.

The “very high settings'' is supposed to be ultra? It is a sad dead thing to see. I understand all the porting yadda-yadda behind it but the lack of deeper tweaking by design is insulting. But I guess crushing console capabilities this bad would either be expensive or just bad for console business.

  • The 3rd person camera bumps...

They almost “fixed” one of the most annoying problems that prevented me from buying this game past year, so I was right all along. When running on-foot over rocks and damaged terrain (that is 90% of the game) the camera dead zone was straight locked behind Sam’s center back like the first 3D games ever made. It caused the camera to stutter progressively after stepping rocks and small stuff, it was really irritating. Now it seems to be much smoother and way better now - unfortunately I can still see signs of it there - perhaps it's just trauma.

  • Corporate weakling sponsoring a game at the cost of immersion.

In a post apocalypse world it seems Monster still is fabricating the energy drink. How? Dunno. Not just energy drink but also “collaboration” with other games that got nothing to do with the provided theme, such as Cyberpunk 2077. Sam has this “magic” can, that when you fill with natural water, the energy drink mysteriously refills again. Sorry, but my brain just can’t ignore this sheat.

15 things that I can’t stand

  1. The fourth-wall breaking is supposed to be funny?

  2. False sense of difficulty, the BBs aren’t that much of a threat as you guessed.

  3. Delivery can be repetitive to the extreme, and super systematic.

  4. Dialog is the work of a university freshman. It is often immature and repetitive.

  5. Amateurish body capture in cutscenes undermines voice acting.

  6. Cutscenes are so slow they could use dialog options to spice things up.

  7. Driving on the landscape could have been as hard and organic as it is on foot.

  8. Preparation is very confusing, too many pointless useless numbers and info.

  9. Excessive tips are badly timed overloading information instead of helping.

  10. Mandatory “courtesy music” you can’t turn off in options.

  11. This game could use a glider, since mechanical aerial vehicles can’t be used.

  12. I don’t get why Sam uses a hoodie instead of a helmet against Timefall.

  13. I don’t get why everything ages to rain, but not the grass, not the buildings.

  14. You won’t meet A.I. porters but you find other player’s remains. (in a singleplayer?)

  15. The foundation of the genre is sound, but the delivery is rather confusing.

I respect the developers intentions and I get it. It seems it wasn’t the intention to provide an ultra realistic game, just hiking mechanics and some fighting, yet there is realism, but no. If you run too much, you can trip over a rock and fall - that’s realistic. But you can also take items from the ground at superhuman speed, or carry items tower high, so high it is ridiculous and hilarious. That’s gamey mechanics. Those types of confusing things seems to always land on the “Kojima’s style” card or whatever, sorry but writing doesn't work like that.

Final Score: 5/10 - Refunded due disappointing perfomance

I remember watching Evangelion when I was younger, but I could spot when the director was trying to act the mysterious writer, it was a downside to me. When you can spot the attempt then the magic dies. Disturbing has nothing to do with annoying. A good movie to use as an example is “Mother!” dreaded fever sequence in the house and the Matrix trilogy, people still discuss if the real world is truly real, now that's real mysteries. In games you got the Indoctrination Theory on Mass Effect. See what I mean?

Death Stranding just keeps posing, forcing it down, trying to act mysterious and weird but very frequently it falls out pretentious. The main reason is a poor virtual camera direction, some gamey immaturity here and there pretending to be a movie or series or whatever. It isn’t bad, but indulgent at best. Maybe next time.

This is a new review after playing "Leon 2nd run". My score dropped since then so by my good morals I had to update it.

𝐐𝐔𝐈𝐂𝐊 𝐑𝐄𝐒𝐔𝐌𝐄

I approve the game, but some new things may feel sacrilegeous like the "Ghost Survivors". Bugs like teleporting lickers or a nonsensical second scenario are on the list. While the majority of the gameplay does a great job, I can see the new stuff acting up (such as mediocre boss fights) thus compromising it a bit for me. Only the first scenario acts as the main now they won't interact as the original did, making it look silly.

YES: I know the remake can't just copy and paste things. Remember the classic CGI when Leon finds a Licker? This time, they wanted you to be blown away while he slowly moves on the ceiling, no cutscenes. While I understand this is awesome, I had 2 immersion breaking bugs during that momment.

They still managed to revitalize the series better with this attempt than the first person one. I don't like the new one always using cheap sexism to sell Resident Evil. So I don't know if the remake was really that good for me, or I'm just amazed that they didn't screw this up.

What survived the remake?

𝐌𝐀𝐈𝐍 𝐂𝐇𝐀𝐑𝐀𝐂𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐒

I couldn't stand Leon's double chin and Claire's baby face model so a very talented modder called "Chiarav1" did a great job adding Leon from RE4 and Claire's DC faces for the Fluffy manager. You may want to fix faces but their personalities are good enough by design. Claire’s is now more expressive (not like it was on Veronica’s) and Leon still is that likeable smooth badass. Now, about the new survivors characters, they're so unecessary it feels like just fast fun. Capcom should've used the resources to create better second scenarios instead. Bummer.

The Fourth Survivor was the best for me in the old game, a bonus intruder in the story. Ironically he didn’t survive the remake much - he looks right but his personality doesn't, he talks too much now and with low-quality nonsense. His extra mission is free at least, it still is an integral part of the post game so that’s something positive there. They could have charged you 20 bucks for that but they didn't, community would burn them.

His timed bonus mission still is fast, a clusterf𝕊𝕔k of monster madness, that’s what matters.

The classic RE2 music was great as I remember it vividly, depressing with a desolate and hopeless atmosphere. The vibes were nostalgic but also very tense and fearful during action. I used to have nightmares when I was younger, trying to run away from Mr X and never really scaping. I don't know why but the original vibes survived much better in the first run scenario.

The best points that did so, have been intensified with great FX and graphics rather than just remastering music. The classic tunes became more of a ambience hint now, rather than live emotion. This is a good and bad thing at the same time.

𝐁𝐑𝐀𝐈𝐍𝐒

Puzzles were one thing that made RE2 known for its cleanse originality. You ask non-gamer people about the Queen and Bishop spark plugs they probably heard about it somewhere. The story still looks like a 1998 event, they preserved it quite well. The devs managed to fit in new ones just as classy, while preserving all the old sacred stuff. Remember this is a third person game now, things like removing a capacitor and placing it somewhere else is in, but they did so with nice sophisticated class. The frequency modulator was my favorite new puzzle so far, gotta use it to believe it. If everything looked the same, in this case it would be the ruin of the remake.

𝐒𝐓𝐎𝐑𝐘

If RE2 story was a real situation, it would have been like a WW II holocaust or hundreds of Twin Towers death toll scenario and shocking and awe. Now everything has been augmented and the conspiracy is believable, rich people doing stupid things for the lack of better things to do, this world can really be “infected” by hypocrites as real world’s events can tell.

They managed to give even more life to side characters, when dialogue works. The chief of police for example is perfectly portrayed as an insane, power-hungry sick bastard with good writing and voice acting. The doctor’s wife is the one holding the best of it, at showing weirdness off. The people involved in the corruption that led the crisis are creepier than the immense barrage of sheat hitting Racoon city.

The original climax and the original ending wasn’t all that happy for the characters and the music helped to darken my heart. I'm sad to report that this isn't exactly what they did with the remake, specially on the second-run. They even had the AUDACITY to remove Leon finding Claire in the STARS room, actually, scenarios won't really interact with each other.

The original composer Shusaku Uchiyama worked on the remake, a couple others from RE4’s too so they tried hard, but the second run feels rushed, killing essential vibes of "meanwhile" story progression.

The bad

The uninspired Capcom I despise also made it through the remake. A few dumb dialogs and Power Rangers body actors trying to look human. It is not happening all the time and not with everyone, but when it shows up I can tell. Leon and Claire loves to do commentaries that just won't match the horror of the moment, trying to induce dumb memes I guess.

They had to fix some old plot holes, such as the scientist getting shot at and one of his experiments falling over his wounded shoulder. Great! But you don’t replace it with even crappier excuses and low effort dialogue that won't match things. The 2nd run used to be a misterious game, with interesting secrets. 90% of it is gone now.

Another flaw I can’t forgive is the lack of parrying in this game. You can’t even crouch, not even Leon and the man is the world’s best cop. Two dimensions mannequin, when crazy sh𝕚𝕥 is happening just run and hope for the best. I know bosses are needed but at least let us dodge attacks.

They had to stretch the Racoon City’s sewers part and it was the best part of the remake.

But every G boss encounter after the first one was bad. The container platform was the worst of them all, maybe unfinished, just not right. Some stuff like that feels out of place, not because they're new but because they're unintuitive at best.

WTF graphics

𝐀𝐓𝐓𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍 𝐓𝐎 𝐃𝐄𝐓𝐀𝐈𝐋𝐒

Every statue is a perfect replica of the original, most corridors, most rooms, most textures have been replicated, the original atmosphere reigns. Anew of course, but faithfully done so.

The further you advance, the dirtier you’ll get. That half bite you had in there will stay for a lot of time with you. Immersing your legs into that mass of sh𝕚𝕥 will also stay with you for a lot of time. That zombie you had to melt with acid will still be frying there in pieces, even after reloading the game. Some enemies will keep reviving if you kill them wrongly. Water looks like real water, the rain pierces my soul, the sound effects haunt my mind and trigger intense sound paranoia, the in-game body animation is more convincing than cutscenes
They managed to make dumb zombies scary again, with perfect state-of-the-art impersonation, specially when they take the bullets.

Final score: 7/10

If you enjoyed this review follow my curator's page.

My history with RE2 comes from a expensive Nintendo 64 cartdridge, it wasn't cheap and I had to work for crazy people to pay my debts and I was just a teen. I feel I could do it all again if ever needed. My kidney still is intact so that’s one thing I can sell, so don't question my love for it. This could easily have turned out to be a pathetic sh𝕚𝕥-show like Resident Evil “REVELAITONS” or whatever the fakk I disagree with nowadays. At least this isn't RE6, that's what's important.
