It's a fun game and I recommend it overall, but there is an enemy type that was a pretty big letdown. Also, coming from Darktide, the combat is not near as good. It's just not as satisfying. Visuals are amazing as well though.

Early Access Review
Recommended this to buddies a few weeks before it started blowing up on streams and youtube. Not surprised it blew up shortly after that when people started discovering it. For a solo dev project it is a monumental achievement. Some of the funniest and most tense moments I have experienced in a game. Absolute blast.

Really fun tatical RPG with roguelike elements. It feels a lot like a medieval tatical Darkest Dungeon. You can constantly hire new merc's and they all have their own abilities and skills. A lot of other skills are tied to specific weapons and armor. There's a lot of mechanics to this game I am too lazy to explain. All sorts of crafting, exploration, etc. I do have one MAJOR complaint. The AI around environmental hazards are absolutely terrible and I really hope the dev's fix this. I have lost 2 war horses because they just run straight through fire and poison. It's just not really an excusable issue. It's a bit upsetting when your AI controlled animals or companions just constantly kill themselves on fire.

It's Dark Souls with Guns and Friends! But for real it's pretty fun, since there is no block or riposte system the game is balanced around you switching between melee and shooting. You can just shoot if you want, or just melee but the game will be much harder. I can see the shooting is meant more as a defensive system in place of blocking.

The locations are otherworldly and gorgeous, and this game is MEANT to be played with someone though it does seem like you can play it on solo. This game is almost meant to be played multiple times, not just beat once. The main gameplay loop is about completing campaign runs, then "re-rolling the campaign" with your same character, stats, build, etc and it has a chance of completely changing each world. There could be secret areas unlocked, altogether new areas, new bosses, weapons, drops, etc. The game has 4 difficulties, Survivor, Veteran, Nightmare, and the unlocked Apocalypse. Enemies on each higher difficulty don't seem to have a huge number bloat for health, especially since you won't do the hardest difficulties until you have a better build. I do not recommend you play on Survivor though unless you want a more casual experience.

Survivor is the games easiest difficulty and considered "normal" while Veteran is considered the way the game is meant to be play. Veteran with another friend is still a bit easier than Dark Souls. Also this game's multiplayer is what it was built around. It is not like a soulsborne game where you just summon a friend who can't do a whole lot in your world. Players share loot, can interact with anything they want, and some encounters even feel balanced around 2+ people.

The dodge mechanic isn't the best but it's definitely not the worst. You still have I-Frames, fast rolling, fat rolling, etc. There is poise, stagger, and all the regular souls mechanics in here. Just with guns and grenades as well as melee weapons. Also there is no "real" magic. Each of your weapons has a mod slot. Mods are crafted and sometimes looted items that you equip to your weapons that change the look of the weapon and add a special skill tied to that weapon. They are essentially the skills and spells of the game. Along with that each weapon can equip a "mutator" which can change your build variability immensely. Each class has 3 "ultimates" to pick from, from healing, buffing, tanking, damage, etc. Each character you make also can have two classes or "archetypes".

Any who bosses are fun and unique, and the game likes to spawn mini-bosses and mini-boss versions of stronger mobs which constantly keeps you on your toes. Fun game and I do recommend it is much more unique and better of the souls-like games.

175.8 hrs on record
I only have 175.8 hours on record but those 175.8 hours were put on the game in less than a month when I was working 14-15 hour shifts sometimes 6 days a week. That should tell you all you need to know. By now you already know though. Game has an immense amount of awards now. Larian pushed the envelope on what an RPG is, just as CD Projekt Red did back in 2015. They pushed the envelope so much that articles were written about developers saying "don't expect this level of quality in a game". Even from a technical stand point this game is an achievement in programming. As much as a joke the Game Awards can be it still doesn't change the fact that majority of people believe BG3 is GOTY and rightfully so.

The sheer amount of users and people I talk to that say "I have never played a turn-based game like this, and barely play RPG's but decided to pick this up and now I am obsessed" was ridiculous. On all media platforms I see this statement made. BG3 wasn't GOTY of Larian, CRPG, and Turn-Based Fans. It was GOTY of people that don't even play this style of game. It made even more people want to play Tabletop DnD.

If you haven't played this game, play it. Maybe turn-based isn't for you, but just know I have heard that from a lot of people who then give this game a try and say "Never mind this game is amazing." This game allows more player control than any game previously developed. Divinity: OS 1 and 2 were just the warm-ups to this monument in gaming achievement. I wasn't even huge on OS 1 and 2 like a lot of people, but this game was amazing.

Also I have to state if you weren't a fan of Divinity: OS 1 and 2's going overboard on the "environmental hazard from spells gameplay" that they did with the overboard explosive barrels and clouds of hazards (I was not a fan of this at all) they toned it way down to be realistic. The game does not expect you to use things like gas clouds and electrified water to be able to damage any enemies. It is, first and foremost, a DnD game with the same builds you can do on tabletop as well as doing things like interacting with environment to fight enemies or shoving enemies into an abyss or or on top of a bunch of spikes.

This game came out quite buggy, yet it still received a huge amount of praise. That should tell you something else. That bugs can be overlooked when a game is actually good. Plus the sheer amount of variability in the way you can tackle every quest and every fight makes sense it came out so buggy. I seriously cannot imagine how much of a nightmare this game was to program. Dev's even stated that if they added one spell (Dispel Magic) the game size would have almost doubled. That also shows you their dedication to the game, if they added a spell like Dispel Magic they would have wanted it to work exactly like Dungeons and Dragon or Pathfinder, dispelling anything magical.

Any who GOTY all the way. Best game I have played since the Witcher 3. Give it a try, get's a big old fat YES from me.

Pretty fun game, not sure how far in I am though. It's kind of a souls-like(not a big fan of calling stuff that "genre")but it does new fresh stuff different than From Soft's games or clones. Don't expect a serious challenge. It isn't even though it has a cartoony style and it's probably harder than most games but nowhere near as difficult as a From Software game or like Salt and Sanctuary. Got about two shot by several bosses but their attacks are extremely telegraphed.

An amazing love letter to the SNES RPG era, but with all the quality of life features and very innovative boss designs of a modern game with only 16-bit turn-based combat at it's disposal. I am consistently blown away by this game. The characters are real and believable. The combat continues to get more and more engaging. My only complaint is the 2nd to last boss is kinda lame and needlessly challenging. I have nothing wrong with a challenge but the boss is more of just a rhythm game without giving any spoilers. Just small complaints.

Also dev's if you see this can you please patch in something that hides the mouse cursor in the game? The mouse isn't used but the mouse cursor remains on the screen while the game is open.

Either way fantastic game and I am amazed this was pretty much done by one person.
