Way to ruin a great game with microtransactions.

Best idea ever. The gaming industry is really going down the toilet.

This is a game. About pirate ships. That fly. And have large missile launchers, flamethrowers and a large assortment of other weapons. And you can shoot those. At other flying pirate ships. If that doesn't sound good to you, you clearly had no childhood.

The idea of this game is to use your ariship to shoot down other airships. The core concept is very simple, and doesn't require Counter-Strike levels of aiming skill. However, don't let that fool you into thinking this game requires no skill. You still need to coordinate and compensate for movement on guns. The guns aren't hitscan like CS, which means you must compensate for projectile movement and lead your targets.

There are 3 different roles:
Pilot: Pilots the ship. Duh. Has several abilities to change ship functions, such as adding speed. Most of these damage some ship component.

Engineer: Fixes anything that breaks/explodes. Can use fire extinguishers, and wield more than one repair tool. You can have 3 at one time, allowing you to adapt your fixing method depending on how many parts have exploded/lit on fire.

Gunner: Holds different types of ammo that allows him to adapt to different situations. Need more fire? Got it. Need faster bullets? Sure!

Each of these roles must work together in a crew of four to destroy enemy ships. The built in voice chat is excellent, providing you a great way to work together with teammates. If you don't have a mic, don't play this game. You won't enjoy it. The teamwork itself is quite satisfying(10 DEGREES TO PORT, CAPN! GET THAT HULL BACK UP, ENGIE!), and this is the part of the game that I enjoy the most. The multiplayer has a commendation system built in, as well as a report system. Most of the community is very friendly, and the salty ones get weeded out quickly.

As for the variety, everything is unlocked from the start, meaning you can use every ship in the game(provided you're willing to get wrecked your first few games with large ships). Every gun on these ships is replaceable, allowing you to create your own loadouts suited for every situation. Sniper? Sure. Close range bruiser? You got it. Each crew member has a custom loadout that can be edited from the start as well.

New to the game? Don't worry, there's a specific section of muiltiplayer dedicated to level 10 or below players. This limits the ships you can use to some simpler ones to get you used to the game. If you like, you can skip right into regular matchmaking.

I highly recommend this game. The devs are great and still provide quality updates. I have no clue why people say this game is dead, there are 3K plus players online at any time. Filling lobbies is easy, getting everyone to ready up is the hard part. :P

Insurgency is an FPS at it's core. It's not ARMA's massive sandbox full of realisim, but it's the same type of tense gameplay on a smaller scale. Every game mode is objective based; there is no TDM here. Most game modes are capture-point based, and most are single life. Oh, did I mention you die in two shots?

There are two types of gamemodes: objective respawning and wave respawning.
Objective respawning: Games such as firefight. This is pretty self explanatory: if you die, you're out until your team caps a point. These types of games are much quicker, as one camper sitting in the corner not capping anything WILL lose the game for his team.

Wave Respawns: Games such as skirmish or push. These gametypes are generally longer, with each team getting a respawn "wave" where all dead players on that team are revived. There are always a limited quantity of waves, giving a limit to the amount of times a team can respawn. As with objective respawns, capping a point instantly revives your team, potentially extending the game after one team has run out of waves. There has to be a minimum of 3 dead on a team for the wave to activate, meaning that if you die by yourself, you'll have to wait to respawn. Both of these gametypes encourage teamwork. If you don't play the objective and instead choose to sit in a corner, you will quickly lose.

The damage model(every headshot is instant death, 2 shots from most guns will kill you) means you have extremely limited time to react to enemies. This takes most of the "twitch" gameplay out of the game: if someone shoots you first, chances are good they will win that fight. That's not to say you can't do anything to someone who sees you at the same time you see them, 1v1 firefights will happen. However, if someone sneaks up behind you, there's nothing you can do. This type of damage model also serves to encourage teamwork: if your teammate sees an enemy behind you, they can save you from a quick death.

Friendly fire is on, forcing you to watch your reactions. You can't simply spray at any movement, you can and will kill teammates in this fashion. The damage you do to teammates is much less that what you'd do to a real enemy. Because of this, teamkills don't happen often, and team damage is punished by the game. However, you can kill a teammate easily if he has low health(especially with explosives). Because of the fact that health doesn't regenerate, damaging a teammate can cause him to lose some firefights. Because of this, it's very helpful to report your location over the in game voice comms.

The game has a fantastic loadout system, similar to CoD's: you recieve a certain amount of points to spend on weapons, attachments and explosives. The game also incorportates armor(which gives you about 1-2 extra bullets of health) and carrying rigs. The twist? Not everything is one point. You're not going to be able to have 2 weapons, 3 nades and heavy armor here. Each weapon has a point value, meaning that you may not be able to purchase that LMG right at the start of the game, or you may not be able to give it a sight. The game also has a weight system: the more you carry, the slower you move and the shorter you can sprint without getting tired(more on that in a bit). You get extra points for winning rounds, so as the game goes on, you'll be able to get more gear. I'd reccommend always carrying some kind of explosive, even if it's only smoke. It'll help your team win much more than a foregrip or heavier armor.

The guns themselves look great, having much better textures than the maps themselves. They look and sound authentic. This game handles guns differently than most games: no hip fire crosshair, and realistic recoil. This isn't battlefield, where you can full auto someone across the map. You WILL have to burst fire. The game relies on a free-aim system, meaning you can change your aim without moving the camera. This only applies to when you're not looking down a sight, but it's useful for accurate hip fire. There is also no aim-assist whatsoever; whereever your crosshair is will be where your shot goes. A near miss in this game is not a hit, it's a miss. The sights themselves are very well rendered, and are realisticly handled as well. For a scope with zoom, it doesn't magnify the whole screen; only the area in the scope is magnified. Higher zoom scopes also take a moment to aim down, meaning you can't rely on them for close range targeting. There is no quickscoping here: your scope must be up fully for you to aim properly. You can't snap up a long range scope on someone right next to you and expect to be accurate. The game also incorporates an automatic pop over cover system and a lean system, without ARMA's complicated stances.

The maps themselves mostly cater to close range combat. Some maps(such as Panj) have plenty of sniping potential, where as others(Ministry) are small cooridoors with plenty of flanking. Due to the lack of minimaps in this game, you must remain aware of your surroundings if you want to survive. An enemy can easily sneak up on you if you or a teammate doesn't watch entrances. Some maps are certainly not the best(District's maze of upper levels, anyone?), but the majority of the maps are fun to play on.

The sound design in this game is absolutely excellent. The guns and grenades sound real, and the soldiers cry bloody murder every time they are shot. After some time playing, you'll learn to identify the different guns by sound. The maps themselves are almost silent, with the occasional siren or jet in the background, making it very possible to hear footsteps.

The graphics in this game are certainly dated, but the game looks good in some areas: the gun and sight textures are great, and the particle effects are even better. The particle effects might not sound important, but each shot kicks up a certain amount of dust depending on where it lands.

This game also boasts a punishing suppresion effect: if you are shot at, your screen will blur and your aim will be thrown off. There's no magical indicator of where fire is coming from either. The aforementioned particle effects will blind you in some cases, meaning that being the "guy who fires at enemies but doesn't hit them" is a valid and helpful role. If you have an LMG, you'll be able to supress entire groups of enemies, letting your teammates get in close for the kill. Watch out though: you can also supress teammates.

The game has plenty of gamemodes: VIP escore(the VIP is a human player), Skirmish(you have to cap points and destroy the enemy's cache of weapons), search and destroy(this is Counter Strike in reverse) and plenty of coop against AI enemies. My personal favorite mode is Hunt, where you must hunt AI enemies in a darkened map. These AI are extremely deadly. Most of the time, you won't know they're right next to you until you're dead. This, as most of the gamemodes tend to do, encourages teamwork.

The game has recently incorporated night combat maps. Don't be fooled: these aren't just normal games with shadows. You won't be able to see in a darkened room without night vision or a flashlight attachment, and both have downsides. The flashlight gives away your position, and the NV goggles can blind you if you look at a bright light(explosion, light, player flashlight, etc.). All of these maps cater to stealth: if you fire without a supressor, you are an extremely obvious sitting duck. This adds even more tension to an already tense game.

My one gripe with the game is the fact that it is very intolerant of high ping. If your ping is over 110, just find a new server. You'll have hitreg problems. I've encountered some problems with shots not registering, but this doesn't happen often and is most likely a server-side problem(although I do wish the devs would make a bug pass on the hitboxes).

All in all, Insurgency is a great game. There's no reason why you shouldn't buy it.

This game has everything you could possibly want in a shooter: precision aiming, high speeds, great guns, and epic maps. What other shooter can you blast past the enemy base, bombing them at 250km/ph? By the way, that's as infantry, not vehicles. The game is free, and you can pay 30$ to unlock everything. It's very fair with it's item prices, and not pay to win.

The perfect run-and-gun game to add to your collection. It stays true to the original while adding awesome features like online co-op(and requiring significantly less quarters)!

Do you like awesome RPGs? Then go get this game. The combat is easy to pick up(but hard to master), the story is exellent, and there's plenty of unlockables for you to go back and get after you finish the main story. The whole world has been blown apart, and it's cool to see the pieces of it rise for you to walk on. The ability to customize how you build your home base is a plus, as are the many items, memorials(side quests), and weapon upgrades. There's even a shrine to boost the difficulty of the game!

(Cool, fancy new review feature)
Mark of the ninja is the best stealth game I've ever played. You can always tell if a guard will be able to see/hear you, so no more bumbling around hoping to avoid detection. The game clearly highlights light and sound, giving you a clear idea of whether or not you can be seen. Not to mention, it really makes you feel like a badass ninja. You can throw spike traps, darts, fungus, noise makers, the ever present spike trap, and even hide in a cardboard box. The guards can acutally think, and will notice you. It's a nice challenge, especially if you want to collect all the scrolls and complete optional challenges.

It's not very long, with only 4 core "worlds", but each mission will last about a half hour. There's plenty of collectibles, and even a hard mode where you can't see behind you.

If you like stealth games, get this immiditately.
