First off the game oozes with style from the combat/boss intros, the voice acting, and the finishing splash art for each fight it will keep you hype throughout your time playing.

Gameplay is similar to beat 'em ups with basic chain combos for your attacks, a dodge, and a parry for defense. There are more to it with hard attacks which can lead to you launching enemies for a juggle combo. It does provide a training mode to help you practice your combos, and parries. Stealth is another big thing in the game with you needing to stick to the shadows and utilizing your gadgets to gain an advantage in combat, or you could ignore it all, and attack everything. The gear system gives you a reward for exploring each floor and allows creative build crazy from just making parries easier on you to being a running nuclear bomb that self damages yourself for more damage on enemies, but still comes with a risk of losing it all. The gameplay provides a lot for experimentation within the combat, and gear which can lead to new discovery on how a certain move or gadget can used to your benefit.

Overall the game provides a lot for small price and if you don't really like the perma-death system wait until the other progression mode are added, but I will say that your items aren't completely lost since you could get them on the 3rd sublevel on each layer. You can also use the grymite to skip levels to allow faster runs and just for you to have a quick snatch and grab on lost items.
