got me into the franchise and I've probably got nearly 1k hours on this game if I count hours on my PS4 Pro. I have gone on to play Rise, 4U, Freedom Unite, and generations ultimate. I prefer this game over Rise personally, because Rise has some annoying stuff I do not like. I still like Rise. I just like world more.

The gameplay? What can I say? It's monster hunter. You hunt monsters and then you collect parts from the monsters you hunt to make better or different gear to hunt other monsters. That is the game in a nutshell. You have a non-combative partner named the Handler who is in charge of eating everything on the table and a cat that makes cute noises and can assist you in combat. There are elf women and midgets and dangerous cacti and a lot of dragons. My favorite monster is the Kirin. Also, you have a lot of weapons to choose from and I still have not really tried all of them fairly. Progression in this game does feel very fast and the campaigns are very very long. There's also way more things after the campaign and they used to have time limited events and stuff.

I am looking forward to Feb 2025 for the next release.

The DLC is not worth it. $4.99 for a single faction that you might not even like? Such a weird game. cool story but a lot of opportunities for the campaign to soft-lock, especially in the expansion, which ALSO costs money, despite not being thoroughly tested. do not recommend

patch 4.0 released. now, it crashes EVEN MORE OFTEN. dumbass devs have decided to prioritize EGS SLOP instead of fixing their game. uninstalled for good. refund this trash

Updated Jan 24th 2025: I can not recommend the game in its current state. every single update breaks older save files. At least the update log tells you this and you can use steam properties to load an older build of the game as a dev suggested in the comments. A lot of bugs have been fixed since release. I can't deny that. However, the game is simply too similar to the original game but worse in some aspects such as pirates. They dumbed down certain aspects of the economy from sins 1 such as taxation. they dumbed down exotics and the exotic material market system to appeal to zoomers presumably. The new unique buildings for planets are mostly completely useless or obviously do not do enough to warrant the cost. I can say the same about most of the consumable items for the capital ships as well. Titans feel either incredibly amazing or incredibly awful, depending on the faction. The Advent feels like such a sluggish and crappy faction in general. The shield regeneration crap is too ridiculous for me to take this game's combat seriously... The AI in this game is laughable. The objective is to destroy the enemy homeworld but if you are attacking their homeworld, they will still be attacking some other planet with their largest fleet. It's honestly hilariously bad....MAYBE wait for them to fix this game if you really want to play it but certain design decisions are certainly not going to be changed, so maybe don't bother and play some older, better game instead. If you have the original sins1rebellion, just play that instead. There's not much substance here. The devs clearly did not intend to make a fully featured game and rely on community mods to make actual content and worthwhile changes like raising the supply limit, which is never a good strategy.

my favorite part of this game is when John Helldiver says "I'm diving into Hell...." and then he dives into hell

EDIT #2 (September 2024): This game DOES work on GNU/Linux and steam deck now AGAIN. Therefore, this review has been edited...

I still do not enjoy this game as much as World. However, it does play very well and has a unique charm to it. I have played nearly 100 hours on Nintendo Switch, but have hardly played it on the PC version as of the time of this writing. However, it's the same game (plus moddable). It's a great game. The only thing I hate about it are the Rampage quests. Everything else is amazing honestly. As far as I can tell, the performance on any PC I have played it on (a ten year old laptop, my main gaming rig, and a steam deck) has been pretty great given some graphics tweaking. Considering this game was made for the Nintendo Switch, it makes sense that it runs pretty well, despite the performance killing disgusting DRM that was added to the PC version.... (Thanks, Crapcom)

I believe in its current state as of September 2024, I can recommend the game for PC again. Works well with Vulkan and runs fine on GNU/Linux and Windows 10/11 Pro with very high framerates and shaders are optimized well. On the steam deck, it is one of the few games that performs decently in desktop mode too (pretty rare actually).

Is this game better to play on the Nintendo Switch? I would have said yes to this question a year ago, but now I have changed my mind and believe it runs better on PC despite all the constant ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ we have had to deal with in the PC port. Thus, I have started playing the PC version over the Switch.

The expansion Sunbreak is good too btw. My girlfriend very much enjoys this game so I have been playing it a lot again.
