They say they can deliver the amount of content we want with "a decreased level of investment," then they proceed to send a quarter of their devs to go work on a PUBG crossover that nobody wants. Awesome. Do not support these developers. They will never fix this game.

No microtransactions. No P2W. No loot boxes. No gambling mechanics. No predatory marketing. Just a really f-cking good game.

Larian did a fantastic job of porting D&D 5e's mechanics to an ARPG style. Controls are easy and intuitive (though I kinda wish there was WASD movement), the combat makes sense, out-of-combat mechanics are presented clearly and understandably, many rolls are done automatically to avoid slowing the pace of the game down. The game is reasonably balanced from my limited experience of it, the story is captivating, the graphics are fantastic whilst still having style to them, it's mostly bug-free (though bugs are inevitable in any piece of code), and it's a finished and fully fleshed-out game that, if they never release a patch or update, it'd be fine as it is, unlike most games nowadays where you have to wait 6 months for it to have enough content to justify purchasing it.

I don't tend to like RPGs. Fallout is about the extent of it, alongside D&D. I don't even really like a lot of the big and popular ones like Skyrim. But this? This is so well-crafted that it's got me hooked. If you like D&D, I'd be willing to bet money that you'd like it. If you don't, or if you've never played it, give it a shot anyways. It's absolutely worth every penny.

The only cosmetic purchase you can make in this game is a $10 USD deluxe edition pack. You get some cosmetic stuff (including a mask that lets you shapeshift into a variety of preset characters) and a cool-looking dagger which works the exact same as a regular dagger, damage and all. Entirely cosmetic and not P2W.

The only issue I have with this game specifically that isn't an issue with D&D in general is that the Fighter fighting style Dueling no longer applies to weapons with the versatile property (such as longswords), meaning you can't get the +2 to damage with longswords, though you can in regular 5e. That sucks, but that's such a minor issue that it literally doesn't matter.

Buy this game. It's absolutely worth it.

Incredibly unoptomized. 30fps on a black screen with nothing being displayed, on lower performance settings, on a 3070. Now I get that the intention of this is simply to look good and not to be an enjoyable or playable experience, but c'mon. You can do better. Doesn't even look good either. Total failure on the only goal you set out for.

Mod's okay. Very dated, but not quite as horrible as a lot of people are making it out to be.

Currently the best VR game on Steam, at least when it comes to firearm-based combat. Do you like guns? Do you like explosives? Do you like hot dogs? Do you like shooting at hot dogs, particularly ones that are human-sized, wear clothing, talk, and (sometimes) shoot back? Do you like one of the namesakes of the game being only in the main menu? If so, you'd love this game. And hell, even if you said no to all of these, it still is worth checking out because you might just find a new thing you enjoy. Very goofy, very fun, and a good few phallic jokes as well. Absolutely worth every penny, 10/10.

Straight-up one of the most strangely-designed and most confusing mods I've ever played. The story was totally disjointed and hardly there, the levels were alright but not the best, the progression was entirely wack, nothing about this makes sense at all... but I can't say I didn't have fun playing this. Despite everything I've said, it wasn't bad, it was just... so confusing and nonsensical. Fighting through Aperture halls and test chambers was fun. The game mostly consists of short disconnected levels with some pretty decent combat encounters, with teleports at the end of each level which strip you of your guns. It feels almost like a Map Labs map pack.

If you're looking for a well-designed mod with fantastic gameplay and a good story, go play Entropy Zero 2, not this. If you're looking to have your brain melt out of your skull and leak out of your ears, play this.

F-ing... Genry Freedom, man. What a name.

My god, this is awesome.

Great gunplay, movement, decent graphics, fantastic soundtrack, great VA, great level design, pretty much everything about this game feels like it was built to appeal to me. Gore, guns, and heavy metal, killing dozens of men on your way through, plus (relatively limited) weapon customization, AND unlockable cheats for playing the game on harder difficulties? This is almost the perfect game, if only it had iron sights that weren't locked behind a cheat, a longer cloak, and maybe Titanfall-like wallrunning, though none of that is necessary at all. Absolutely fantastic, and for 30 bucks, it isn't expensive either. This would absolutely be worth a 60 dollar price tag, nevermind 30. The first level is the perfect tutorial and intro to the game, perfect to help you decide if you like the game or not.

If it had a co-op, then it'd be perfect, though Focus would be nearly impossible to add and would probably need to be replaced with a different mechanic.

EDIT: After playing this for longer, I've thoroughly enjoyed it... except for the final boss, which is genuinely making me consider changing my review to a negative one. The final phase doesn't have a save, meaning you have to play through the bullsh!t third phase all over again if you die. The final half of the fight is filled with nearly unavoidable attacks. You can only damage the boss when he's attacking, nearly forcing you to take damage to deal damage to him. The fact that he can adjust his course for his attacks up until he actually does, and just downright stop his attacks if you're too far away, means you cannot adequately take advantage of his vulnerability when baiting him into an attack. There is also nowhere near enough health or armor in the arena. If he couldn't stop his attack, or re-aim while he's about to attack, then this might be tolerable, but as it stands, it's infuriating and a genuinely miserable part of an otherwise great game.

What a fantastic game. An adorable artstyle, fantastic visuals, great soundtrack, great voice acting, a compelling story with well-written characters and genuinely unexpected twists, wrought with love, fear, and tragedy. About 6.5 hours of gameplay to complete and get 100% achievements (I only missed one that I now know how to get). The Charm system was unique and I don't think I've seen anything done quite like it. The true ending left me choked up and nearly managed to get tears out of me, which is no small feat for me. It left me desperate for more in the best way possible. 10/10, would recommend to everyone who likes a good story.

Fantastic. Improved graphics, visual effects, sound, and gunplay, whilst keeping the feel of the original. I do have a few nitpicks, though. A lot of the textures look grainy, I guess? I don't know how to put it, but some textures really don't look good. I also don't like how there's no ADS. You've got 4 weapons that you can aim down the sights with, so I'd like to see proper ADS for everything (especially the revolver, the current laser-assisted sniper mode is awful). I'd also love to see more additions, maybe some more Opposing Force weapons, or separating the HD pack's Beretta and M4 into new and unique weapons that maybe later-game soldiers wield. While we're at it, I'd love to just have Opposing Force and Blue Shift versions of this.

Overall, most definitely the best way to play the original Half Life, but could use some more features and a little bit of work to bring it up to HL2: MMod-levels of fantastic.

Also, the M in M203 is not capitalized when you pick up an M203 grenade.

Absolutely great game. Fun on your own, fun with friends. Makes me feel kinda depressed, like I've wasted my high school years online.
But then I remember that, if I wasn't admittedly chronically online, I never would've met my best friends. I wouldn't be the person I am today, and that'd probably be for the worse. My friends have pulled me off the edge, and now I'm standing comfortably inside, only occasionally eyeing the door to the roof, but never even considering walking to it (did that metaphor make sense?). I wouldn't be where I am without my friends, and for that, I'm thankful.

If you liked the first two, you'll like this. Zoe my beloved.

long-winded rant from a semi-experienced player incoming, but i promise it's worth at least reading the tl;dr.

terrible game mechanics for beginners with nearly useless tutorials that don't teach you anything beyond the most basic of concepts behind the game (stealth detection, reviving crew, securing loot) and the menus are nearly unrivaled in their chaos and clunkiness. a large portion of the weapons are terrible on anything above very hard/overkill (mid-tier difficulties) and many become literally useless at the highest difficulties. many of the mechanics do not work as intended sometimes and the desync can be bad enough that cops literally walk through walls (hell, they'll walk through walls on solo heists). stealth is one of the worst things ever, guards and cameras can and will spot you through walls and from behind themselves. civilians will refuse to cooperate and get you caught despite you literally threatening their lives with a gun. guard pagers (essentially limiting the number of guards you can kill) are sometimes unanswerable for seemingly no reason and will force the heist into loud. a third of your time is spent hauling bag upon bag to a helicopter or van that is often unreasonably far away even from a realism standpoint. a third of your time is spent waiting and babysitting the most unreliable drills and hacking software known to man, that are guaranteed to jam or crash at least twice depending on the timer (if it's over a minute it will jam 2-3 times), and that's not to mention the fact that cops can also stop your timers, forcing you to restart them, and they still might jam on their own after being stopped like 80 times.

all that being said, however, this is still one of the greatest games i've ever played. the gunplay is incredibly enjoyable, the heists are varied and most of them are quite fun, RNG gives many heists massive replay values (some going as far as to make some of your objectives random, like Hoxton Breakout day 2), the characters are, for the most part, very well written and acted (looking at you, Ethan, Hila, and Joy). the story is absolutely wild and (spoiler alert) involves ancient nephilim, aliens, reincarnation, gods, and a plot to take over the world by reincarnating into the body of the President of the United States. it's hidden behind a multitude of secrets, puzzles, and ciphers, which take serious dedication and time to solve alone (and at least a fair bit of time to complete with guides). it is some of the wildest and best-written fiction i've ever had the pleasure of experiencing and, despite its numerous plotholes due to differing writers with different visions throughout the years, ends on an incredibly satisfying note that still leaves me yearning for more and involves you, in a manner of speaking, (spoilers again) quite literally stealing the United States of America. the gameplay loop and especially leveling up remains rewarding despite many of the rewards being entirely cosmetic, especially later on. the wide variety of different perk decks and skills (which range from nearly useless to entirely overpowered, even by PVE standards) as well as weapons, throwables, deployables, and armor allow for incredibly varied playstyles and the large number of characters, masks, outfits, gloves, weapon/armor skins, and mask customization options (patterns, materials, colors) all allow you to customize your appearance in a way that few games allow you to (even almost rivaling TF2 in how unique you can be). it's a fantastic game that's weighed down by some massive, genuine problems, but if you can get over those problems (which is surprisingly easy with a bit of grit and willpower), it can be one of the most enjoyable games you'll ever play in your life. turn on some music, turn on crew ai, hop into a normal difficulty heist, and relax as you mow your way through hundreds of cops, or get in your gaming chair, team up with 3 buddies, and sweat like nobody's ever sweat before on a death sentence heist. this game essentially gives you a bunch of action figures, some places to play with them, and a choose-your-own-adventure book, and lets you go from there. the soundtrack is absolutely top-notch too, with a wide variety of genres, from chiptune to edm to rock to techno-opera fusion.

tl;dr: incredibly fun game with some big problems that are surprisingly easy to get over with just a bit of dedication. worth full price but goes on sale pretty often, for a dollar too, so if you're at all interested, you should really pick it up, though i will admit the DLCs hold back a lot of the game's best content, though if you find someone who owns a heist DLC, they can host it and you can play it without actually having to own it yourself.
