Well, what to say about this game? I wanted it to be good and intriguing and thought provoking and fun exploration but instead it was kind of boring, buggy, frustrating (because I could only look at certain things but not others) and seemed to just have some random puzzles thrown in at the end to make it last longer. The story was barely there. There was no real backstory to what was going on other than a couple of log notes that didn't really explain anything. The captions telling you what your character was thinking were in white, so sometimes you couldn't read them very well because what they were superimposed over was too light (moving the camera around a bit helped but if you it moved too far from the trigger spot the text vanished). It was also very, very short. I completed it in a bit over an hour and that was only because I had to get up and leave the game running for about ten minutes while I took the dogs out for a pee. It had potential, but in the end was just meh.

So far I am really enjoying this game. I've only played offline single player but it's scratching the hack/slash/loot itch I've been experiencing lately. The graphics are nice, the combat look and feel is very satisfying (especially when those enemies explode in a shower of gore! ... oops did I say that out loud?) There are a few glitches here and there, but overall I've had a smooth gameplay experience. Even though I have limited gaming time due to work, I look forward to getting back to the game daily, and that's a good sign.

Style? Check. Substance? Check. Antihero? Check. This game is not a happy, sunny, romp through the flowers game. It's a gritty, dreary, maybe redemption, maybe not game. The main character is an alcoholic perhaps corrupt cop who drank himself into a stupor and now has to investigate murder and perhaps more. The locations are dirty and full of hoplessness mixed with a tiny bit of hope. The gameplay is innovative and your choices do affect things. I really liked this game.

Having played more of the game since various patches and enhancements were done, I enjoyed it a lot more. It feels more complete, less boring and much more entertaining. Finally, it's what it should have been to begin with. I've changed my NO to a YES now.


Previously on This Review: Well... this game needs a lot of work before it qualifies to be a finished game. It's pretty boring, and not worth the 49.99 AAA pricetag. Maybe it would be worth 20.00.... maybe. I got so bored I have to set it aside til it has some updates under its belt. This should have been an Early Access game instead of a full release.

I am sad to see this game go. It was fun, quirky, and had a unique art style and sense of humor. Would play again!

In the middle of playing this on Android, will replay here when I'm done to see what other choices I could make. This one is fun, has some interesting twists on old themes. I've enjoyed it a lot.

Pillars of Eternity is fantastic. All the rave reviews that have been flying around are completely true. It reminds me of the old Infinity Engine games like Baldur's Gate and the like, but it feels more modern at the same time. Even the backer content that was included (such as the backer names, the backer created NPCs, backer created items) have been fit into the world seamlessly. As long as you don't mind a bit of reading (which enhances the atmosphere and story, it's not just there for filler) and you enjoy party-based crpgs with a good story, you'll love it.

I have not finished the game yet, but I am loving it so far and wanted to tell everyone. That's how good it is!

I can't stop playing this game. I mourn when my heroes die! I struggle to save them. I flee if I have to (much to the consternation of my Crusaders...). The art is fantastic, and the premise though rogue-lite is fresh. I look forward to the continued development and improvement of this little gem.

A moving, delightful, sad, uplifting, horrifying, regret-inducing, joy-producing tale. A text adventure/CYOA well worth playing more than once to see how things could have been if you'd done something differently. I loved this one!

I enjoyed this game a lot, though not as much as I did the original. That may have been because it was new and unexpected 20 years ago and now I knew what was going on and what was going to happen. My review will be sort of colored by that.

I think the atmosphere felt more sinister, tense, and mysterious in the original. This one doesn't carry the same weight it did. The graphics are terrific, but I think the very fact that they are so visible tends to make them less ominous. Some of the new puzzles are annoying, though they are not totally out of place. I still hate mazes in Adventure games, but this one can be forgiven because ALL adventure games had mazes back in the day (or it seemed so).

The voice acting is very good and I enjoyed most of it.

I can easily recommend this one very highly to people who have already played it and to those who haven't. I had a ball.
