While I do miss the old game's art style (the anti aliasing filter helps quench the nostalgia but not completely) and music, The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth is most definitely a total improvement over the original.

The gameplay is now very solid and I feel like the runs are way more skill-based than RNG-based now. The Curses mix up the game, and the Runes reward the player for sitting through the Challenges, which are all very entertaining. The new bosses are way more bullet hell-esque, and, because of both the smoother movement options and the new items, is actually an extremely good call gameplay wise.

The new characters are absurdly fun to play with, and mixed the gameplay up far more than the old ones did. Combined with the near infinity of items and combos, not to mention enemies and room patterns, all of this makes this game an endless piece of hell.

But a piece of hell you'll keep coming back to. Willingly.
