Still holds up surprisingly well. Some tedious and meh parts (all fade segments and boring dungeons), but the story carries it.

The game's lore actually only started clicking after they discussed prehistory and extinction lmao--about halfway through my playthrough. I've had more fun playing the game when I picked it up after a year than when I started.

Building a network of ziplines to cut backtracking is pretty fun. Building a network of ziplines to trivialize a mountain is an amazing feeling.

This game has an amazing role-play progression that people sometimes overlook. It's nice to look back on when you start out with just a dozen scythe and hammer-wielding peasants in your group to earning your place as a captain leading a formation in a bigger army. This eventually boils down to leading your own army with everyone else at your command.

Not to mention, the character progression where fighting one knight is likely a death sentence in the early game to actually beating several dozen in just one battle later on,

Only buy if you are a hardcore AC fan or if you like Late Ptolemaic Egypt as a setting.

The game plays like an RPG which means levels are pretty important aside from gear. The problem is that the main quests' level requirement leaves you behind if you are not doing anything else. The game effectively cuts the momentum of the main story by forcing you to do repetitive and uninteresting side quests to keep up with the level requirement lest you get one-shotted by an enemy or deal with sponges.

When other games give side quests, they tend to be optional or lure the player in with an interesting premise. Not in Origins. I dropped the game 24 hours or so on my first playthrough. I picked it up recently starting fresh, and I am reminded near the quest where I stopped why I dropped it: Level gating.

Odyssey is more interesting either because they fixed the level gating or because the areas and the setting are more interesting. It felt bloated but it didn't stop my momentum just because either I was doing the main quest or I had something interesting to keep me going.

Valhalla is another bloated AC game. Chapters also called arcs in the game unfold with you making allies in England, but it feels so bloated to do as well as feeling derivative over one another. In the first few "arcs," the game often ended with a castle fight; it felt monotonous. The idea of an overarching plot honestly feels like it takes a back seat to these episodic chapters to gain allies.

I think with the Layla Hassan trilogy it all boils down to which historical period/setting appeals to you the most. I loved exploring Classical Greece, and I have a soft spot for Odyssey over Origins or Valhalla.

Eivor feels clunky or "heavy" to move around during exploration and in combat compared to the Eagle Bearer.

I liked the skill system tho, but it might not be for everyone.

Brutal and unenjoyable at first. It suffers from the same "gotta Google the questline" mechanic if you want to balance the game out quickly. Otherwise, you'll bang your head on the same boss until you decide to summon a spirit or stumble around every nook and cranny looking for a blessing fragment to even the odds.

Watching someone beat the final boss at level one without any blessings makes you think it's not the level of blessings you have but how stubborn you are at throwing yourself against any boss.

I wish we got a light GS and backhand blade accessible early on in the base game.

IMO, if you can manage the bosses without getting stuck due to blessing level or don't mind summoning, FromSoft once against captured the "open world wandering" experience from the base game.

The performance is so bad. I think adding an open-world component surrounding the main hub was a mistake.

I played Dragon's Dogma 2 and made the jump to get this game because I thought, "maybe the issue is just around town." But no. The issue persists in town plus the open area surrounding it. Not to mention, apart from stutters, it freezes the screen every 2 seconds, Elsewhere on specific missions/quests a la Fallen Order, the game runs fine.

Wait for a price drop or expansion (and hopefully a performance patch somewhere). It's still a good game regardless of what people say about the OPTIONAL MTX and horrendous performance in cities that you barely spend your time in.

- Quests aren't as weird and memorable as the first game, but the exploration is better than Dark Arisen. I wasn't really paying attention to the main story, but I kinda got the gist of certain things which sounded deep and thought-provoking.

- The characters are severely underutilized owing to a relatively short main story that barely involves them throughout. You avoid rushing the main story, therefore, your interactions with them tend to be few and far between. I wish the characters they introduced in the first hours were involved consistently even 50 hours later, but not in this case.

- They gutted vocations to make them more focused on their roles, but it also means not having the versatility of having extra skills since everyone can only use 4 instead of 8 skills. Fighter, Thief, and Archer are fun vocations. Sorcerer's "ultimate" spells feel lazy because they should have made original spells instead of hiding away spells originally in their kit.

- Of the three new vocations, only the Mystic Spearhand is good. Warfarer is an underwhelming late-game vocation that is neither broken nor good. It's not a "solo" vocation because of how limited its skills are (any 3 skills from any vocation + weapon switch). Being able to switch any weapon of your choice and use their core skills are not enough to make it fun.

- Enemy variety is terribly lacking. You fight goblins and harpies in the first 10 hours. 20 hours later, you're fighting bigger goblins in armor and menacing harpies. The bandits look the same rugged ones. If you have an issue fighting the Erdtree Avatar in Elden Ring, imagine fighting those 30 times.

- Dungeon variety is bad, lmao. I did not realize caves were dungeons, and the game expects you to visit 50 of them for an achievement.

TL;DR
Overall, it's a janky and endearing game that is not for everyone. People got a Dragon's Dogma sequel, and it's nice enough. I think the current price point for this janky game isn't justified especially with the lack of variety and short main story.

Bloodborne meets Bioshock meets Nier Automata meets RE 4. What an inspired and competently made game.

Good stuff:
-QOL stuff that FromSoft could take notes from. (showing you where to stand when attempting to crit a downed enemy or letting you know which NPC has new quest progression)
-The soundtrack is amazing.
-Wow, there's actually a nice story here. The NPC side quests are simple but emotional.
-Weapon customization lets you create a unique playstyle, the legion arm adds a new way to approach combat, and boss weapons have their own gimmicks to make up for not letting you customize. Lastly, the P-Organ adds another way of customizing P's abilities/gameplay.
-I can't believe boss gank fights are fun here without being too punishing.

Bad stuff:
-♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, enough with the 2-phase boss fights.
-You can miss content/quest progression without any way to do it until NG+.
-Stutters a lot on my 3070 after a while.
-Laxasia can kiss my ass.
-The ergo riddle was dumb. (which goes back to my second point because the "backup" solution is also a limited quest item for a different NPC)

What I thought I was getting:
-Simply an expansion that adds more content to the game.

What happened instead:
-Did not expect this spy thriller to make me question my decisions at the end.

CDPred really nails their expansions well when it comes to "expanding" their base games. The main story of PL blends lots of action with buildup and tension. It also gives you time and space to pursue side objectives without feeling like you're up against a deadline.
