UPDATE: FatShark has addressed most of my complaints, giving players availability to all weapons in the shop, at lower quality, you get a weapon or relic as a reward every mission you complete, and crafting system seems to be pretty much finished. A very welcome update to the game to let players focus on playing the game and experimenting with all the equipment. Well worth the price now.

========Early review kept for posterity========
This game is aggressively designed with no regard for player's experience outside of combat. You have no choice in what missions you really want to play, they put them on rotation, which wouldn't be too bad if you could still choose difficulty within that limited set, but of the twelve missions available at any given time, they all have their own difficulty pre-set. The weapons mostly seem fun to use but you have no way of getting the weapons you want unless you get lucky and the weapon shop has one in stock for this hour. Otherwise you have to wait an hour and hope it shows up then.

The progression is very aggressively designed against anyone who can't dedicate ten or more hours a week on it, weapon and map experimentation is very heavily discouraged thanks to the time gates and lack of private/solo play.

The gameplay itself is honestly really good, maybe needs some balance work but its following Vermitide's proven formula, but everything around that is such a massive step back. The game will probably get better in time, but as of the time of me writing this, its just not worth it. There's way better, player friendly games of this genre available right now.

A fun little game with pretty dang good melee combat mechanics. Definitely a great game to play with buddies over a weekend.

Just as much fun as yelling at ghosts in real life but from the comfort of my own home! I may have bought some ghost hunting equipment immediately after playing this game.

This game is pretty damn amazing. Metroid style games are among my most favorite to just sit and play for hours, though they tend to have a relatively limited amount of replay value.

This game one the other hand? It just keeps on giving. A beautiful art style that brings back fond memories of Super Metroid and an expanding item pool that makes it feel like you're never quite done with the game, there's just not a lot for me to not love. Each run feels like a new game that I'd love to spend hours on exploring, though perhaps it doesn't quite give you enough reason to go back to the various sections and explore them anew.

This game is being given plenty of work after the release though, with new design schemes rolling out recently that keeps every run having the same general layout, rebalances to the upgrades, new room designs... I don't think I'm ever going to play this game to exhaustion in quite a while.

I'm pretty thoroughly enjoying this game so far. Lots of people complaining about pay to win, but coming into this as a new player, I'm not seeing it. You get all sorts of goodies to build with from the start, and if you need something, do a couple bot matches to get a bunch of crates to build new awesome stuff!

I wish you could do bot matches/coopish play with a party though.

This game is an FPS Roguelike first and foremost. It blends old school aesthetics and gameplay elements with the ruthless, unforgiving nature of roguelikes to create something pretty damn fun.

I think the main campaign is perhaps a bit too cruel at the moment, health gets scarce real quick and you can't count on more being in the next room, so every hit you take really matters. That being said, the MURDERZONE.EXE game mode is a lot more to my liking, and its a really good way to get familiar with the various elements this game throws at you, giving you a non-changing arena each time you play, throwing hordes of enemies at you for you to mow down so you can get to the next room and get more upgrades.

I love the game, but I can see why it might not be for everyone, though I think its definitely worth a buy if you ever catch it on sale if you grew up with the classic shooters.

This is an incredibly fun game that is easy to just jump in on and goof around for a while with friends. Its reminiscant of classics like Hexen, but I feel like everything about it is just a bit better.

EDIT: The new direction they are going with customized wands (hint: they're guns) is really incredible. Like yourself a reliable shotgun to see your way through some tough areas? Make one! Want a machine gun that leaves explosions on impact? Easily done! This is an amazing addition to the game!
