Firewatch is an immersive first person mystery with an absolutely amazing soundtrack and gorgeous visuals to suit. I didn't think I would enjoy the game as much as I did but the story was far too interesting to not completely immerse myself in. The suspense at each turn, the character development coupled with the ability to direct most conversations, I found myself falling deeper in love with not only the characters but the place as a whole.

Firstly, the visuals are absolutely gorgeous. I found myself almost wishing I was outside in this beautiful place. The art style paired with the colour palette used is perfect; gorgeous orange, yellow and red hues are what greet you in the introduction and as the game goes on the palette only continues to expand. As each day went on I found myself wandering around just to enjoy and explore the beautiful surrounds on offer, at times forgetting that I had some set tasks to complete.

The game is surely one to move you. As you connect to the characters on a deeply emotional level through their dialog; I found myself tearing up and even relishing in their joy. The introduction to the game really sets you up for this. Not only was it simplistic in its execution but it really pulled on the heartstrings, making me feel for the characters I would never actually technically see at all. I have to admit that a lot of this is thanks to the absolutely stunning soundtrack. I honestly cannot talk highly of the music enough. It is absolutely perfect with the setting and not only made me tear up several times but even made my heart race as the story progressed. A huge kudos to the composer for his work here, I know I’ll find myself listening to the prologues piece on repeat for a very long time.

The game play itself isn’t all that difficult. Small interactions with the environment, you’ll find yourself mainly walking around and taking in the views on your journey to complete your job. However, as the story continues on, you’ll find yourself caught up in the middle of a enthralling mystery that you’ll have the urge to complete as quickly as possible as more and more questions are brought forward through the events that take place. Sadly, the game isn’t all that long but for what it lacks in game play time it makes up for in everything else, save for the ending.

I know that some people won’t be able to justify spending $20 for 4-5 hours of game play and I can totally understand why they may feel they are not getting their money’s worth. But the game is amazing and even if that’s an issue I would suggest anyone pick it up on sale instead. Don’t pass up a chance to play this game. Anti climactic ending aside, I honestly cannot recommend the game enough.

When I bought this game I thought I was in for a fun and relaxing time. Little did I know I had signed up for hell. Albeit the first few levels are pretty straight forward and easy, the steep difficulty curve that swiftly follows out of nowhere is very hard to adapt to. That however is what keeps the game interesting to me. Being a completionist makes it hard for me to leave levels without completing all three of the objectives set out for me. This in turn is both infuriating and wonderful as it makes the replay value for each level much higher for me. I'll replay until I get all 3 stamps per level.

I can see why the game may not appeal to some. It isn't really a simulator. There really isn't all that management when it comes to funding of new trains and things like upgrades. The only thing you need to pay close attention to is changing the arrows on the tracks so that trains go to their correct stations and of course making sure you don't go bankrupt while you are crazily building tracks. There really isn't much micromanaging required to play this game. Avid simulation fans will be mad, avid casual gamers who like only a little bit of management so that the game doesn't tie them down for too many hours at a time will rejoice.

I personally, although annoyed by some levels because they are so damn hard to even complete for a first time, love this game. It's a fun way to kill a bit of time, it isn't too demanding unlike other simulations where you need to focus on a lot of different little things and it is really easy to pick up thanks to the simple mechanics.

Overall, for $10 it is worthwhile adding this game to your collection. Some may beg to differ as the change in difficulty pretty early into the game can make it seem uninteresting and even make it unplayable for some; but personally for me I think it is worth it. I get lots of replay out of it. It's a simple concept with easy controls and it is at times mentally challenging, causing myself to really think out my approach to each level. I personally enjoy a little bit of a challenge when playing games like this so if you feel much the same, I recommend it 100%

Car soccer? What could possibly go wrong?

>plays with online friends in the US
>misses easy shots cause ping is WAY TOO HIGH (200+)
>friends get pissy
>try harder and end up scoring on self
>lose friends forever
>worth it

Seriously though. Buy this game. It is totally worth the money. Hours of fun to be had even if the idea is simple. Exceptionally executed by the devs, kudos to them.

10/10

Edit:
It's still amazing

I have not a single bad thing to say about this game. I bought this game around April this year when it was early access after I saw a youtuber play it just out of the blue. As I was watching the video I thought that this could be a game that I would enjoy. After purchasing it I played it for a little while and could see myself getting addicted to it.

The concept of the game is simple; run a subway/metro at one of the many locations from around the world that the developers have offered. To do this it is as simple as clicking and dragging the lines to the new stations that continue to appear as your progress through the weeks. At the end of the week you receive a new locomotive and you also then get the choice between two options that are given to you. They could be a new line, a new carriage, tunnels (which come in handy on the maps that have bodies of water that must be traversed) or even an interchange (these come in handy when you have one particular stop with many lines running through it.)

The actual design of the game is simplistic and minimalistic in nature. Since April the design of the interface itself has changed and developed into one of the nicest looking interfaces I have seen. It is easy on the eyes and is easy to navigate so any new comers could easily immerse themselves in the game.

The developers themselves have been continually updating this game for the players, adding new challenges and content to keep it interesting. Never fear however, even if these challenges were not available you would still find yourself lost in the game. Each play through on any map is extremely different to any previous play throughs due to the fact that each station that spawns in is random. Thus this keeps the game from becoming stale and keeps it rather interesting as you can never guess where and what kind of station will show up next.

Keeping up with everything can be a real challenge at times, especially as more and more stops appear on the map and more and more passengers wait at these stops. Even so that does not make the game at all stressful and is actually oddly peaceful and satisfying to play.

Every time I play I find myself saying, "Just one more week (in game) and I'll stop" but that one more week turns into two more weeks which turns into three more weeks and before I know it I have spent 3 hours in the game. The simple drive to keep the lines running as smoothly as possible and to get as many passengers to their destination as possible is the thing that becomes rather addictive.

Overall it is fantastic. The design is utterly perfect for this kind of game (it looks just like a metro map would), the controls are extremely easy, there are plenty of cities to play, the interface is minimalistic and overall the dev team have done a wonderful job. I would suggest anyone buy it really. Even if you only play it on the off occasion for an hour or two it is totally worth it!
