crunchy sprites feel good in my mouth

EDIT: Leaving my original review below this one for clarity.

I played a bit longer since my initial first impression, and yes, while the controller gameplay leaves a lot to be desired, there is a cute, SDV-esque game under there. It expands a lot on mechanics that I wish Stardew did and I've even convinced my fiance to buy it to play with me. All is well.

OLD REVIEW:

I really want to like this game, the sprites are cute and the art is pretty, but I just can't recommend it in its current state, especially not for controller/Deck users.

First off, in an hour of game play I had to restart three times due to weird bugs. Not a great start. There were also numerous graphical errors and my character walked straight through a building during a cutscene bug.

Second of all, the controls- why offer any kind of controller support in the first place when it doesn't barely work? The keys that ARE mapped are weirdly placed and janky, and while there are community control schemes available I still didn't manage to find one that worked comfortably. Also, strangely enough, the game detects your controller but only SOME tool tips are adapted to display the controller input (i.e. interacting with objects) but otherwise you have to fumble around and try to figure them out yourself.

Maybe I will come back later, but as a controller guy, that will likely be some time in the far future.

a little rough around the edges, but it's in early access so i'm overlooking that fact completely in this review

my fiance tried and failed to get me into this game several times, but with the release of the titania map the game is, to me, finally worth playing. it no longer takes 100 hours to grow your dinosaur and thus it's no longer rage inducing to LOSE your dinosaur that you waited so long to grow. The game is also just overall faster paced and better suited to adults with full time jobs who don't want to log in just to get thrashed by someone who has done nothing but AFK for GAINS all day.

on top of the official servers, the game also has a large selection of private servers, some revolving around "realism" gameplay, with others focusing around mostly afking and hanging out.

whether looking for solid PVP or just a place to chill, i think this is that place.

for the love of god please buy this game. best community out there, the workshop is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ goldmine.
