Nightmare Reaper is a fantastic game. A beautiful blend of upgrades with impact, visceral gunplay, and a story that left me playing the game for a couple more hours every night - after 22 hours, I've managed to finally get to NG+!

The movement can feel a little unusual at times, with guns that you'd expect to have more knockback not... really giving much knockback. But with the arsenal that there is, you're bound to find something that'll make your job easier.

The new upgrade systems, being the Topaz and Jade carts, seem unusual to me. I know that since we're in NG+ territory, it makes sense to have extra upgrades (and may as well have new gameplay loops for those upgrades!) but I've not really found much pleasure in playing the turn-based battler, or the space shooter. Perhaps they'll grow on me.

The game also has a few hitches and stutters when loading big areas - but this could just be my issue.

Nitpicks aside, this game is wonderful. Most of the guns have a beautiful sound and design to them, and combined with the gore, makes dispatching enemies SO cathartic. The homages and easter eggs are a cute touch, and it shows that the team at Blazing Bit Games wanted to make this game worth every cent. $30.99 seems like a fair hike for an indie game, but it's worth the asking price.

Early Access Review
A fantastic sequel to Tallowmere, Curse of the Kittens refines the Tallowmere experience with additions and changes to the formula.

Tallowmere 2 now is more roguelite with its gameplay, with new starting weapons and races. However, you can still stick to your guns and start with your standard axe.

With the removal of the rocket launcher and flamethrower, new weapons have been introduced to the dungeon, specifically the Lightning Orb (for long range engagements) and the enchantments on weapons, allowing poison damage and stunning (!) of enemies. Not only that, there are now bouncing orbs, various new modifiers from rescuing kittens, and a swath of room modifiers.

The only gripe I have is the removal of the weapon wheel, being replaced with a weapon... Bar-ish? It's a nice addition, but the ability to use the weapon wheel again would be fantastic.

Overall, Tallowmere 2 is going to be a fantastic game to torture myself daily with. If you like being punished for mistakes, then I'd say pick it up. However, there is a fair bit of bias with this review, due to me backing this when backing was available.
