Left 4 Dead's "special" little brother. One of those games that looks like unimpressive shovelware at a glance but is full of fun surprises for you and your friends at the LAN party. What it lacks in development budget, it makes up for in quality with good core gameplay and little else. Blood & Bacon costs basically nothing and is worth buying just for the hell of it, you are guaranteed your money's worth and more.

EA retroactively added a kernel-level anticheat to the game and broke support with Proton as well as destroyed mod support. Messing with a nearly decade old shooter that's no longer updated, JUST to make it deliberately unplayable... what? EA what are you fu‎‎cking smoking? Anyway thank you for ensuring I cannot conveniently play a game after I already paid full price (read: scam). If only Steam still gave refunds for developers who do this BS, like with what happened to Rocket League. If the game launched this way from the start then I wouldn't really care, but doing this to your players after they've bought the game expecting it to be playable on Linux and with custom skins is just immoral and fu‎‎cked up.

A real shame because this is one of the best games in the series and also by far the most technically impressive.

The game is good, but this is a HORRIBLE PC PORT. Locked to 30 FPS, no custom playlist support like the PS3 version, and antialiasing is forced to low so even at 1440p everything looks bad. I'm not on ancient hardware, there's no excuse for this and I can't imagine there was an excuse for it in 2013 either.

The tickrate is locked to the framerate instead of being FPS-independent with the renderer interpolated from there like most games now. I thought we stopped programming games this way in the mid 90s? As a result, most of the hacks you try to fix these issues will end up making things even worse. The only good workaround that exists is a d3d11 MITM patch and it doesn't work for me so I'm SOL.

On all versions of the game, Ghost Games used Peer-to-Peer networking. This was pushed really hard back during the mid to late 7th generation of consoles, and we stopped using it because it was super hard to make server-side cheat mitigation this way and introduced more technical challenges than it saved on server costs. There are games that do P2P somewhat well: WipEout HD's Medius netcode was really bad but the nice thing about it is that it was seamless, if the host left the game then it would migrate instantanously and you would be none the wiser. Need for Speed Rivals does not do this. If the host leaves, you have to sit on a loading screen for one to two minutes. This can happen in the middle of the race, and often times, it can even cancel or reset the current event or cop chase you are in and screw you over. Not cool.

Maybe get this on sale, but don't take this NFS entry too seriously. It's extremely rushed, and Unbound is starting to inherit a lot of it's unique features now that Volume 8 is out. Which is a shame because Rivals has some of the better driving mechanics and cop chases that easily tie with the Black Box era games.

Game crashed after first Autumn event and now softlocks every single time I open it. Servers also don't work.

please buy this, it costs almost nothing and it's SUPER good. not too punishing, just a very chill and satisfyingly fluid collectathon platformer that reminds me a lot of classic sonic the hedgehog

why is there "retry from checkpoint" option if there are no ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ checkpoints? if you die 20 minutes into a mission you gotta redo the entire ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ thing

Get the PS3 version instead. Don't bother with this garbage. Complete scam. I can't even refund it because I spend the entire refund period troubleshooting.
