There's a lot of love to this, what with the art style and just all out competence the game has

But ultimately this was a very, very dull mystery case with mechanics I just don't think work here. None of the mind surfing and detective exploration does anything to change the fact that it's a very, very simple groundhog day mystery that may as well have just been a visual novel where you can just skip to parts you have yet to see. And this isn't helped by the fact that when you repeat the day, you have to repeat certain prolonged segments that you've already seen before.

A lot of the minimal stuff in the plot either didn't need to be seen, or perhaps there's further things that shed light on the surrounding plot elements. But honestly, it's so uninteresting that I'm not really that bothered about discovering it.

The actual Game of the Year, that won't get the credit it deserves because Ubisoft are a garbage company

For the price I guess you'd be a grinch to grumble, but I'm not sure what happened here.

Started off very well, and then kinda just loses it in the middle. The art is great, the combat and initial bosses are well done... but then the sense of balance goes nuts. You get way too many health points and because of how the game mechanically works, you just stand there pummelling bosses with very little to kill you before you outdamage them.

As for the ending... what the hell? I just randomly did an excavation thing and the worst final boss I've ever seen comes out of nowhere and the game is over?

This feels like such a promising project that was cut way too short and had a diminishing sense of scope.

I have no attachment to the original, and thoroughly enjoyed this.

The fact these kinds of games can be updated so successfully just makes me wonder why there aren't any original games in the same vein.

This game is dope. I'm not sure why it seems to have fallen under the radar.

For the price I don't regret my time with this, but it's a fairly low-mid tier attempt at survival horror throwback. If Tormented Souls was the RE2 of modern throwbacks, this is like one of those dodgy PS2 era Alone in the Darks of modern throwbacks.

Big issue really is the content isn't really there. The game starts off with a positive level exploration experience a la Silent Hill being stuck in an apartment block, but after that it's just a linear press through some basic areas. And it doesn't help the sheer amount of rooms you have to unlock to not even receive anything worthwhile or necessary.

If you need a Survival Horror game throwback itch scratching, Crow Country, Signalis, Tormented Souls, are all far better.

It's like Chimera Squad but with less farting about and more drop in and play fun with the focus on figuring out the puzzle, as opposed to flailing around with randomness.

the first 10 hours will lull you in, but honestly this game just kinda blows. There is next to zero exploration worth. It's a boss rush game through and through, and the combat isn't remotely good enough to carry it. The bosses are just tedious endurance tests, with horrible hit-boxes and win conditions. The game emphasizes dodging, and then rewards you with really bizarre hitboxes because the enemies have invisible walls around their body which means you can't be underneath them, which mean your attacks constantly whiff, and bosses can hop a metre away and completely avoid your heavy attacks, which are your win condition.

Banging your head against Consort Radahn was frustrating, but fun still because you could feel your progress and know you failed because you messed up. Everytime I failed against the bosses here it was because I ran out of HP to survive the onslaught of suspect hit detection and tedious gimmicks.

Holy cow talk about completely screwing the pooch with your game. What a great idea completely ruined. How on earth is this just it? Way too short, puzzle potential completely unrealized. The fact that this game just ends and isn't a multi playthrough "figure out the good ending" thing is bananas. What a disappointing waste of my time.
