Valheim has recently blown up as a popular game. Lately it has been my latest obsession and I've rented a persistent private server to play with friends. It has worked out great; we only do boss progression when all 5 of us are on together but now that we've gotten into mining there is usually something any of us can do even if we just jump on for a few minutes to load up our smelters or furnaces. Great for people with different schedules that can only meet up ~once a week... other than maybe the very beginning.

I haven't played enough of other survival games such as Rust or Ark to be able to understand what all makes Valheim stand out from them or any other of the millions of EASCG (Early Access Survival / Crafting Games). The main thing is the emphasis on PVE progression vs a PVP experience.

I feel like I'm too competitive to enjoy a PVP game as I would fall behind from lack of free time and lose interest in the game or I would devote too much time and ignore my IRL responsibilities. With this game my friends are able to do work without me which benefits all of us and I feel like we are getting the full experience the developers intended without having to try to compete with any middle schoolers on our server that play 16 hours a day even during their zoom classes.

This thing as many others have said, isn't meant for high intensity, twitchy action, games that require low latency.

I have had one of these since around when it first came out. I have to say I've found a use for it quite a bit. I haven't kept it in one place, for a while using it for my main TV as a sort of media center, then a 2nd TV in the living room so I could play games while my Fiance watched TV. Now it's set up by my Bathtub so I can sit back and play Fallout NV or Civilization while having a soak.

Undertale is such a good game. It's my game of the year for 2015 and even almost going back to 2014 if it weren't for Smash Wii U.

If you haven't heard of it, it's an Indie RPG where you can either kill or ~befriend~ every enemy you face, and the story goes down 3 different paths depending on what you do (pacifist, neutral, genocide). You select your action by a text menu (Fight, Item, Act, Flee) and for defending against an attack, you play a "bullet hell" mini game which is different for each enemy.

I'm still trying to beat the Genocide boss, but felt like writing about my experience already.

The first thing I love is the music. Usually for a game, I'll finish playing and really like 3-5 songs max and keep them in my music library. I have 12 songs from Undertale that I love. I'm still deciding if any of the songs stand out beyond what I would consider my favorite video game track, but as a whole, Undertale's soundtrack is definitely the best soundtrack of any game I've played.

It's highly detailed and funny. I don't want to spoil anything, but there are several moments that made me laugh.

The combat is awesome. I love bullet-hell games so of course I liked it. Don't get me wrong, it's not the insane type of bullet-hell where you die every 10 seconds, but still challenging.

The story is great, too. I won't go into too much detail here either, but many people love and connected with the characters so well that they didn't want to do the genocide playthrough and kill them. I did it, but it felt rough.

The bosses in this game are each intense and well done. Each one is greatly unique, and the final boss of the neutral playthrough is my new favorite final boss in any video game. I haven't been as shaken by a video game as I was after that fight since I was maybe 10.

It's also just $10 on Steam. It took me 6-7 hours for my first playthrough and now I'm 20 hours in on my 3rd.

If you consider yourself a fan of older style RPGs like Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy, or Earthbound, this is the game you're supposed to play. It's the innovator.

TLDR: Amazing game. Best game soundtrack. Best final boss. Best game to release since September 13, 2014. $10 USD

Currently been having fun getting lost in space with friends, living out scenarios of isolation while trying to survive. Tense kind of fun.

A beautiful game.

All of the art is hand drawn and looks similar to the metal slug games (i.e. beautiful).

Soundtrack will stay in your head all day. Live symphony + Choir with an electronic bassline makes for an EPIC experience.

Crazy ass storyline about 17th century colonists on MARS.

All of this added on top of a complete bullethell experience. This is the most satisfying genre of game for me to improve at because it is almost entirely based on skills.

This is great as a single player game but can be done with up to 4 players. Unfortunately, since it's an indie game, there is no online play implemented. 4.5/5 because of this.

Otherwise, I recommend playing this game.
