Also, was macht dieses Spiel zum Meisterwerk?

i love stealth games.
My all time favourites are only games where i was able to sneak like a shy fox.
Thief 1 and 2, Thief Deadly Shadows, Systemshock 2, Dishonored, Deus Ex, Alien Isolation. All games i loved to play.

And neon struct is class aswell.
Ofc the graphic is hideous, but believ me, after some minutes you wont even take notice the spartanic interior and blocky enemies, because you get thrilled.

Gameplay, soundtrack, story and somehow the cyberpunk art style are top notch.

Loved it.

Vorneweg:

-> Uneingeschränkte Empfehlung.

I saw many positives reviews. I loved MP1 & 2 and after Mp3 was in sale, i had to pick it up.

Soon i noticed that it has very less in common with previous MP titles.

Gameplay
---------------------------------
It's more like serious sam in 3rd person. The same mechanic over and over again.

You enter an area, several waves of enemies comes towards you, you duck and cover and shoot.
After you killed everyone, you trigger a door, button or reach a point, the next cutscene plays and then you battle another waves of enemies.

This might sound similar to MP1 & 2, but those games had more "flow", because they were no cover shooters and the gameplay wasnt interrupted by some weird looking boring cutscenes.

Now you are stuck in cover, shoot and you wait until Enemy respawnin scripts are finished.
Horribly boring.

Style & Setting
---------------------------------
Aside the gameplay boredom Rockstar made some weird design choices.

All of the uncountable cutscenes have this weird shivering color effects. I suppose this should symbolise Sams drug abuse (?), but it is not art, it's just annoying and looks stupid.
Most of those cutscenes are also about uninteresting stuff and Max off-comments are wannabe deep nonsense rambling about Life and the current situation. Compared to previous MP games a real letdown.

The setting (Brasil) doesnt fit a MP game at all. As i battled with a beardy bald Max Payne in a Hawain shirt in a boring designed favelas setting stuck in cover, i asked myself: "Wtf is this crap?"

Nearly all settings (airport, favelas, abandoned hotel, Panama canal, ship, police station, etc) were nothing worth remembering. Most of the settings even looking dull and uninteresting (especially the hotel).

Graphic:
---------------------------------
They are solid. Some textures (especially floor textures) in cutscenes are weak and looking pixelated, but overall it's not bad, but also nothing mindblowing.
I suppose the graphic are best discribed with "it fits".

Story:
--------------------------------
It never reaches the greatness and deepness of MP1 & 2.
The story of those old games were rich and this one is flat.

I dont wanna spoiler here, so i wont go into detail, but i didnt like it much.

Verdict:
---------------------------------
Rockstar transformed MP from an interesting entertaining shooting film noir experience to a boring and repetative cover shooter with nonsense cutscenes in a not fitting setting. The story is not even close to the drama of previous titles.

As a big MP1 & 2 fan, i was pretty disappointed with the whole MP3 expirience. And i wont touch this game again.

To be honest, i was sceptical as soon as i heard about another reboot of the series.

I liked the origianl ones (TR1 and 2) back in the 90s and i thought that the first reboot with Legend, Underworld and anniversary were pretty neat.

So how does the second reboot life up to its ancestors?
THe short answer: it's really the best Tomb Raider i've experienced.

The whole game was entertaining and the story interesting. All environments were beautiful and fitted perfectly.
This game is clearly a 9/10 and on of the best i've played the last years. Hell, i even got more fun out of it as i had with GTA V (yes, seriously).

In the current state this game isnt as bad as it's reputation might suggest.
It was even fun to play.

Over the last 2 decades of my pc-gaming life, i saw and played all Alien-related 1st person games (like AVP2000, AVP2, Alien isolation, etc) so i am able to judge if it's a worthy buy as an alien fan.

And it really is.

It's fun to play on LV-426, to fight alongside your (dumb) teammates and hear the famous weapon sounds.
Also you can find legendary weapons (based on the film Aliens) and some audio logs.

Personally i see it as a Call of Duty in the alien universe. And tbh all modern Call of Duties bored me way more than this game did in the 8 hours i needed to complete it.

So for my final words i can honestly say that this game is worth to purchase when you see it for 5 euros or less.
