It's a classic on-rails shooter concept. Think Star Fox but without the furries and sci-fi. Problem it its so heavily optimized for the Occulus its almost unplayable without it.
That being said, its free! So there no harm in trying it. If you have an occulus give it a shot, but I won't recomend it otherwise.

Where do I begin. This game has a wonderful concept; survive on an island teeming with dinosaurs for you to hunt, tame and ride. And for the most part it realizes that concept well. The graphics and sounds are quite pretty (if somewhat demanding) and it's a fun experience for about half the time.

The other half the time is when the game falls apart. That video at the top that shows a T-Rex rampage through a gate chasing someone down? Never gonna happen. What IS going to happen is that you and your tribe will spend weeks building a strong base, setting up plant turrets and taming dinos, and when you log out for the night to get some sleep some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ will punch a hole in your walls, kite your dinos to someone else's base so they get killed by that person's turrets, and steal all your hard-earned resources. And more than likely throw them away since this is the kind of asshat who keeps a shack in the woods and only plays to ruin the game for other people. And the game has no way to police these jokers, since (unlike most other players) they dont care about advancing, so they dont have big bases and tamed dinos, and even if you manage to find every thatch hut they have and destroy everything, they'll just laugh it off and start over again since, again, they are only here to ♥♥♥♥ with other players.

The single player is surprisingly dull; the lack of ai controlled humans to interact with makes the game feel empty even with all the dinos around, building anything beyond wood is pointless as any dinos who could actually destroy a wooden structure wont bother unless you piss them off, and without an actual end goal the game gets dull and repetitive quickly.

PVE servers arent much better, with people dropping foundations and pillars anywhere they want to stop people from building, making land impossible to come by and essentially forcing you to join one of the big alpha-tribes just so you can actually play the game. It gets even worse when you try to run a cave, since on PVE people can wall off entire sections of the map and feel confident that no one can stop them from monopolizing resources. Its a disturbing showcase of how even the most whimsical fantasy game stops being fun when it gets too close the real world.

TLDR: Singleplayer is dull, PVE is impossible if you dont wanna be part of a super-tribe, and PVP on an official server just is not fun since every third time you log on you'll be starting from scratch with all stone tools. If there was someone around who could invoke a ban on players whose only objective is to ruin the game for everyone else, it might be worth while. But the devs either dont care or are incapable of setting that up. Don't waste your money on this game, or if you do wait until it goes on sale and play a private server.

I'm updating this review since its been a while and I've got some more experience in.

The long and short of it is, don't play official unless your just screwing around anyway. Unofficial servers are a totally different experience depending on what the server is. Some have rules against griefing or offline raiding and mods to strictly enforce them, others just have low enough populations that its rare to be wiped; worst I've had is someone open a wall and steal some guns and ammo. Easily replaced, and no dinos killed. Rates of XP and taming are also better so its not a 12+hour tame for a decent level rex or the like.

New TLDR: Just play unofficial, and research the server a bit.
