A pretty authentic spiritual successor to JSRF. Its movement is smoother, it has a lot of nice quality of life additions like multiple vehicle types etc.
It is a pity it doesn't modernize much, It has the energy of a Mild increment over the original, but the tedious cutscenes and slow paced sprays remain despite being pretty dated.

That being said, the core of the game, the core identity is authentic and on point. The level design is fantastic, the music is great and the animations are smooth and match the original energy.

It is certainly far too easy. the combo system can be cheesed pretty easily and is almost entirely based on the cornering mechanic.

In short, as a love letter to JSRF it succeeds perfectly, as a standalone game in its own right...

It struggles from that authenticity and faithfulness to the past.

Fun and interesting mechanic. When you fall into a rhythm with the swinging it is very satisfying.
Great example of getting a lot of milage out of a mechanic.

Also, I'm a sucker for a fun dash mechanic in any game.

Compelling story, Amazing music, Nuanced and customizable combat system,

Not to mention Engaging environments with epic set pieces.

Though more than all of that, it plays with the medium of videogames in unique and interesting ways.
The existentialist themes staying with you long after you unlock the games secrets.

One of the smartest examples of maximizing the potential of a simple mechanic.

Through clever level design and subtle nuanced changes from level to level; the developers managed to turn a conceptually simple idea in an infuriating mess of panic and shouting.

This is a game for someone else.

For some this narrative experience will touch some frayed part of their soul and change them.

Others will be left exasperated and saddened,

a larger number will leave angry, unfulfilled and feeling cheated, both out of money and time.

Although for me, Empathy is the dimmest lighthouse on my waters and left me disconnected.

Know yourself. this is not an experience for most of us. but for those whom the video elicits an emotional spark as well as intrigue, enjoy. Although intrigue alone will not allow this game to leave you fulfilled.

Awesomesauce. It is arkhams combat, Assassins creeds climbing, visually impressive and with an interesting new mechanic in the Nemesis system, little bit hollow on the face of it though, the story is entertaining but lackluster and after quite a few hours the wholes start to form and things start to get repetitious,

all in all it looks like the start of a franchise that is one to watch, By game 3 or 4 they will probably have the formula right and that game will be appointment playing.
