This game's melee is harder than darktide, but also the same, play this if you don't want to suck at Darktide, you'll understand once you play both

This sucks compared to the first one, Buy that instead.

It COMPLETELY missed the mark on what made the first one a masterclass in survival horror. In any good Survival Horror you GENERALLY need a strong silent protagonist, it allows you to immerse yourself into the environment. The characters talk CONSTANTLY and incessantly and the dialogue is way too high bright it doesn't make you feel alone and scared as the first one did.

The story is unbelievably weak, there's nothing compelling about it, in the first Subnautica, it's a story of survival, of hopelessness which is far more gripping.

It feels like most of this game is recycled ideas, which funnily enough, it is from the first game; it's ideas left over that weren't implemented in the first game which would have been much better suited there. This entire game would be better as an expansion of biomes from the first game.

Overall really just buy the first one, and if you own the first one the survival in this won't grip you, nothing feels quite as urgent and a bastion of hope in survival

Early Access Review
I would say this game is slept on but it has a 94% Positive review score at the time of this review. I would say this game is slept on as in not many people know about this actual gem.

LISTEN TO ME, IF YOU AND 2 OTHER FRIENDS ARE INTERESTED IN THIS GAME READ NO FURTHER AND BUY THE GAME AND PLAY IT, THE BEST EXPERIENCES YOU HAVE ARE THE ONE'S IN WHICH COME NATURALLY.

TLDR; USE THE RADIOS DO NOT USE DISCORD OR TS THE IN GAME VOICE MAKES IT 100000x FUNNIER AND MORE IMMERSIVE...... Before I actually start I would say this, if you have two other friends (However Unlikely) and they perhaps are funny or even serious, this game is for all of you. I would rate this game a very high arbitrary score out of 10.

This is a game where it feels like nothing is happening, then within 25 seconds of your captain saying "Oh ♥♥♥♥" and you hearing funny noises outside, You are a pile of red mist recently crushed by the pressure of the ocean hitting you like a speeding bulldozer. This is a game that the most fun comes with actual ineptitude, so if you are smarter than your friends, this will be very fun for you.

Don't look ♥♥♥♥ up, trust me, figure ♥♥♥♥ out yourself it's WAY more fun and creates very memorable experiences, Here's an example:
When I first bought this game, I didn't look at pictures or anything, I mistook this game for a different one and thought this was a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ WW2 submarine game. If you think this too, look no further and buy the game. trust me. ANYWHO I never saw a thing and was a mechanic for my brother and his friend who never mention the flaura and fauna of this game to me once. The first time we got off the ship which I believe was the dugong, (and yes I thought it was strange a WW2 sub had a gun facing down but I said ♥♥♥♥ it and didn't question it.) Basically I had to go fix and repair a beacon and at this point I thought this was a steampunk take on WW2 and thought it was quite dope. I got off the ship with my buddy Charlie while my brother (The Captain) Stayed on the the ship with 2 AI who where manning the guns.

After repairing the Beacon station and getting it mostly online and trying to figure out how to turn it actually on past the reactor switch, all we hear over the radio from my brother was "Uh Guys? I think someone is on the ship" then silence, complete silence and no reply to our hails. NOW I'm sitting here literally ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ my pants and I was like "Dude what the ♥♥♥♥ is on the ship we locked the door how to did a diver get in?" My buddy Charlie was saying things like "We need to go back right now" So I grew a pair and swam back to the airlock with him, armed with a wrench and he armed with a syringe gun with Morphine.

Upon reaching the airlock of our ship it lay opened, certainly not how we left it. I uneasily yet gingerly opened the second stage of the airlock, flooding the diving compartment causing the ship to quickly start to sink, as soon as Charlie made entry the door behind us we closed and I made sure to Weld shut.

The next door opened down below with a ladder for access. Upon opening it, weapons at the ready there lay on the floor a dead creature which freaked me the ♥♥♥♥ out as I did not know it was dead. I didn't hesitate and leaped on it wrench in hand to beat some cheeks, fortunately it were already slain. After my entry of complete reckless abandon I noticed two more creatures lay dead on the floor near my Brother and Captain. A quick cursory look and I saw blood stains, slain crew and bullet holes all around the cabin of the ship, my brother laying deceased from blood loss legs with large bite wounds in them. The other crew unbeknownst to me were alive and bleeding quickly thankfully Charlie was a medic and was able to stabilize them. THIS ENTIRE TIME I was so tunneled on what was happening I failed to see that my brother was Respawning with a countdown in the time left, as did Charlie.

I went to clearing the ship wrench in hand with a bad attitude and a bone to pick yet there was no creatures to be found, as soon as I finished feeling defeated and not knowing how to pilot a submarine we were hailed over comms "AHOY MY MATES" my brother shouted, which scared the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥ out of me as the tenseness in the air was truly palpable. To which we both meaning Charlie and I didn't know you could respawn and asked him about it. To which he confirmed quite obviously and asked "Didn't you guys hear me screaming?" the short answer is no, no we didn't.

THAT'S WHY MY FRIENDS YOU DON'T USE DISCORD. The deafening silence over comms after such an ominous message made one of my most memorable moments in gaming with my Brother. Right then I knew this game was amazing and I would love it, Absolutely fantastic game.

If you go into this blind with friends who are also proverbially blind and use the ingame comms only, you will have many memorable experiences that I can promise. The Struggle and lack of understanding of this game is what creates those tense and funny situations, as no one can hear you scream when you're unconscious and being brutally beaten. Buy this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game

Hello! and welcome to my review of mordhau; now *MOSTLY* everything passed this point is opinion. I have at the time of writing this review roughly 700 hours in Mordhau, as well as having somewhere between 1200-1500 on Chivalry Medieval warfare. I have a good few hours in melee games and I played Chivalry competitively so do with that what you will.

Now onto the review, So I'm going to list a few pro's and con's of this game and clear up a few misconceptions and talk about some mechanics intentional or otherwise.

-Is this game like Chivalry?-
Yes and no, Teamwork and teamfighting, yes it's similar though not all the skills are transferable and there are emphasis on others skills which are more important in Mordhau than Chivlary, one for example is Footwork. In a duel and mechanically it's not exactly similar but not exactly different, much as the same way that Rust and CS:GO are both shooters and you shoot people, but it's not similar, though some skill are transferable.

-DRAGS-
So first on my list is the dreaded drags, now, yes there are drags but let me tell you why it's a good thing. Dragging and feinting is often a vital component of what makes fights more engaging and have more skill. I know, what you're thinking, this guy is dumb as ♥♥♥♥. Which you may not be wrong BUT it keeps the fights from maintaining a certain level of monotony that being just pressing RMB then LMB, but there are counters to feints and drags which we will get into. So yes Drags are really needed in a melee game to keep the fights being mechanically *higher* skilled. Drags can be broken, not what you would call an exploit as it's an intended mechanic pushed to it's limit, but that is the price we pay for non lock on combat.

-FEINTS-
Yes there are feints, yes they are needed, yes you can "hard read" them (Reading without any notion that they were going to feint beforehand) As with all things it takes practice to read them, practice to play well, learning weapon timings and audio queues from the character feinting you is vital to reading feints. No they aren't a bad thing and no they don't take skill away from the game, in fact they add skill by allowing the player a new level of game sense, "reading" feints

-CHAMBERING-
Ah yes, chambering, now this is actually a topic of some controversy in the Mordhau Alpha and Beta testing community. First allow me to explain the idea behind the mechanic, now chambering is a mechanic that is intended to help a player "soft read" feints, basically it acts similar to a parry and riposte system with some benefits and downsides which most downsides are usually a lower amount of player skill. Which is usually the point of contention.
>Benefits
-You don't have to hard read feints, nor even think about the possibility of them feinting you.
-Big very slow drags you can more or less "gamble" (Attacking out of turn order) essentially
>Downsides
-Takes more stamina than a parry, which is intended to punish the player for using chambers only
-Allows you to soft read feints (Thus reducing player skill as you don't have to learn as much and really making you less well rounded player because in the end, it ♥♥♥♥♥ you to not be able to read feints)
-Doesn't allow an unfinchable riposte and other 1vX mechanics

-1VX- (One person vs multiple)
This is also another point of contention in the current Mordhau community, some people think it's fine, others don't. now I will tell you why it's fine where it is and doesn't need more mechanics and people are just more often than not, just wanting an easier game and wanting to do better than they should be able to given the circumstance.
>In a 1vx you are fighting a combined skill pool of the players, a combined Stamina and Health pool as well. Even outclassing your enemy in skill there is still a high possibility that you fail.
>Well you are fighting more than 1 person, really that should be very hard in general if not close to impossible in some situations.
>It's a different skill set, you can't just run in and cleave down 16 people unless you are a very high skilled player, if you try you should and most of the times, will, be killed.

-BACKSWINGS/REVERSES-
Are they possible? Not in the same way as they are in chiv. They are possible but to a far less extent, now really if you go down the rabbit hole if they were to take away all ability to "Backswing" which they *mostly* have. At a certain point it would be a lock on game, you can really only back swing to your 4 or 5 o'clock position though. Which isn't as jarring as it may seem, if you were to follow me on this train of though for one second. A backswing can also be called an instant hit, which are possible in Mordhau. (Hitting someone as soon as your weapon leaves windup and goes into release) at a certain point, Instant hits will always be in the game, if you can speed up your attack at all, there will be what you can call, an instant hit.

-Customization-
There is a lot of cosmetics which are not paid, you can customize your player to any extent within the realms of the point system, I will address the point system shortly. Now, there are skins for just about everything in game. there are 3 Types of armor: Heavy, Medium, Light, all of which have different levels of speed. For game balance mainly as well as different levels of protection. All sets of armor fall under these 3 types of armor, all of which give you nothing but the ability to look cool. Same with the weapon skins.

-Point System-
The point system is constraint put on the player to limit the player's choice in favor for game balance. You get 16 points which can be distributed among both perks and weapons/armor. Now it's not severely restrictive, it just keeps players from being able to use all perks, heavy armor, A halberd, a longsword as a secondary and a longbow as tertiary weapon.
it DOES NOT limit player choice of cosmetics, only the weapon type and armor type, being heavy, medium, or light armor for example.

-Do you recommend Mordhau?-
I do, overall I think mordhau is *mostly* an enjoyable experience. It can really have it's moments of hilarious roleplay and "valour" it's a game which is easy to get into, easy on the eyes, and pretty easy on the wallet for the time you can really spend in game. it's fun as hell with friends do goof off with. The game can also has a decently high skill ceiling mechanically, and comp is never super hard to get into and to enjoy, though there are some salt lords as with any game. The community is pretty okay by an online game's standards, it's about what you would expect from any online platform. So yes, I think you should buy this game, and enjoy it as many other's have, though buyer beware, as of current the servers like to ♥♥♥♥ occasionally and can be somewhat frustrating. Passed that though, the game is a gem in a niche genre.

I recommend this game, there are some draw backs. I'll go over these pros and cons and you decide for yourself.
Pros:
This game is very addictive with a skill cap which only yourself limits you. This game through reviews may seem like "Spinning Stimulator" but I'll tell you it's not, though spins are involved it's because the game mechanics though sometimes buggy and slightly exploitable rely on fluidity to combo attacks successfully and gracefully. There are things where you drag your swing to slow it down, or accel your swing (accelerated attack) to speed it up. There are ways to hit around blocks, because blocking covers a limited area and not your sides you have to look at the weapon to block it. This game takes a while to master, I am no where close, around 200 hours is where I personally increased in skill rapidly, then at around 460 which is recent, the peak and valleys of learning are evident in this game. Word of warning, everyone thinks they're bad at this game, well most do, it's because there are a lot of people who may be better than you even though it's a small, albeit slightly toxic community.
Now, about to community, as previously stated it is slightly toxic but that's the normal trolls who are in any game, there are very skilled genuinely nice players who are willing to help new players, I'll tell you my story in this game after the reveiw if you're still around. Now, it is a small community, at least in comparison to most games. Everyone seems to know one another, I personally know many people and I know who a lot of the trolls are. Hacking really isn't much of an issue in this game, server admins of private servers can make themselves do hacking like things through console commands. But there are a decent bit of active admins especially in the EU servers whom TornBanner has put into commission for their official servers. The community can be very entertaining.
There are more pros but they are more on the minor side so I'll go to the cons.
Cons:
Small community that seems to be dying, though, I have seen an influx of new players as of late.
Sometimes the skill cap or lack there of is discouraging, there are definitely extremely good players out there. It's a higher skill difference than Silver 1 to Global Elite. But there are tutorials on YouTube to learn about this game, I suggest "Teripper".
This game can become an addiction, I have wasted quite a long time on this game that I bought on sale for $5, for $5 I'd strongly suggest you pick this game up (on sale for $5).
Now, I'll tell you about my story which is interesting and unnsual in the Chivalry world of players.
I bought this game for $5 as did my friend, we played a while he played about 6 hours (even to this day) I had about 24 because I liked this game a log. That's when I unknowingly met a legend in a duel server. This man's name is, Mud, Mud is widely know for being the best fister (fist fighter) there is. He kicked my ass with his fists while I used a weapon. I asked him to teach me. He did, though he later told me he thought I'd just give up, I was his first student in a long time. I literally couldn't hit him strafing side to side my aim was so bad. But I didn't give up. The training was long and brutal. 60 hours of only using fists I sucked still. To keep it shorter I spent a total of 300 consecutive hours only using my fists. He taught me and I learned. Now at that point I met a man at the time named simply "Bada' he was level 48 which is hard to get to because of the XP increase level to level. And he liked me, my fisting taught me footwork, which is important to learn, so I was ahead of the learning curve, he taught me to swordfight, as did Sheep, only a little but a very good fighter. I'm now in a clan which used to be #4 NA until it broke apart an was recently reformed by stellar players. I've been very lucky. Made a lot of friends and met some awesome players. Some of the best in the world some of whom are great friends now. And I am now though slightly self proclaimed top 5 best fisters NA. Mud aggrees and he is probably Numer 1

Everyone's experience is different. This community is a fire slowly dying, but, as people keep joining some don't realise but you're the future of this game. Many may move on to Mordhau but a few will remain, coming back to see every once in a while. You see, there is a joke in Chivalry, commonly exchanged by players of higher levels and skill. " we don't play this game because we like it, we play it because we must" though there is a hidden truth and does have a deeper meaning, all of us hate to see this game die, and the cheesey spins are performed by people at first who aren't that great, mostly the first thing people learn.
I leave you with that. You must decide. I personally, recommend it.

Now as you can see I don't have much time in this game, that's because I'm some of the same game breaking bugs others are, which on startup crashes my game as sson as I hit the menu many others are having the same issue. I've spent 8-9 hours trying to find ways from the community to fix this issue and their tech support, is just, trash. They tell me to update drivers check my specs and all that ♥♥♥♥ when my rig is more than able to play on Ultra settings my drivers are updated same with DirectX I've done almost everything imaginable to fix these bugs, others have too. So I'm not saying don't buy this game, I'm saying don't waste your hard earned money on this buggy ♥♥♥♥ until they fix it and they should have done so already. So I personally seeing that this is a triple A title give it a bad review.
