this game totally blindsided me with its quality. i went in expecting little more than a cutesy, amateur rpg, and i felt reaffirmed in that expectation by the games opening. before long, though, the characters start getting developed, the games humor starts to surface (and its damn good humor), the atmosphere in certain areas becomes truly palpable, and the writing starts making the experience feel thoughtful and cohesive.

the game doesnt stop being a cutesy amateur rpg at any point, though. 'amateur' is not a value judgement, and here it reflects individualistic expression and creative freedom that takes a remarkable amount of dedication and talent to form into something as resonant as super lesbian animal rpg.

the main thing holding the game back is the technical limitations imposed by a 10 year old version of rpgmaker. its hard to really fault the game for this, seeing as thats about as long as it took to bring this game to fruition. all the passion poured in over all those years shines through regardless.

never has a multiplayer game gave me such a strong feeling of camaraderie among total strangers. you can form bonds with random players without ever having to type in chat or use your mic owing to the games phenomenal communication tools. sharing a toast with your fellow dwarves before downing a fine brew or taking turns to point out a mushroom never gets old. about the most toxic thing ive experienced is getting randomly kicked after joining a mission, but its a rare experience far outweighed by the amount of truly helpful players this game bears.

there are no doubts to be had over this games quality: literally 99.4% of thousands of reviews for this game are positive, and you can go play the free demo yourself. theres only one qualifier to whether or not id recommend this one to any given person:

theres a prime reason you play this game. its the flying and spraying viscera accross your screen, the bullet-time head popping, the weighter-than-a-free-range-pregnant-cow melee combat. its the gamefeel. by god, does it feel good to kill in this game. EVERYTHING you do feels good in this game. the animation, sound design, graphics, it all comes together so damn well. this is one game i hope never dies.

remember when every D-list gaming youtuber played a demo for this game in a web browser? and then it went on to influence several high-profile indies into adding its own core mechanic?
