I still think about this game like a nostalgic place I was once very fond of. I don't really have an use for it anymore since I have changed in my daily habits but this game was once very dear for me the days I played it <3

Personal preference but I find it awkward playing the game at times. Grim's and MC's interests in each other don't have any natural draw beyond the basic physical attraction (from MC's side). A lot of the interactions feel inorganic, like they're trying to reinforce a dynamic but hiding it with the illusion of choices.

Since the focus is solely on each other without other characters to bounce off, we have to rely on the main two characters to make interesting situations. However, MC doesn't have much ongoing for them due to them being a player insert, which limited what the creator can do with the character since they can't tamper too much with the player's illusion. Meanwhile, Grim doesn't have that much ongoing with him or particular depth even with all of the reaper lore he has either.

I assume there'll be more the further I played on but so far on day 5, I don't really see why either of these people should be together. If I changed my mind once the game ends, I'll update the review but as is, I don't think I can genuinely recommend the game.

EDIT: Finished and I can't say my feeling has changed. If anything the confession makes the whole situation even more jarring. I'm sure the game has its own audience but for me, it just doesn't work particularly well in any area.

Amazing. Amazing. Gorgeous. Breathtaking. The game demonstrates how much Owlcat has grown as a studio over the year and as someone who had been supporting them since the days of Kingmaker, it's truly heartwarming to see.

Yes, I love the game. Yes, the whole experience was fantastic EXCEPT they don't wrap up the story properly at all. You get minimal closure with your love interest, the endings just feel super rushed and there's no mention of all the deeds you've done in the game, good or bad. I wish there's a neutral button because I really loved most of the experience but the endings ruined it for me :(

Second of all: The endings range from quite dark to REALLY dark. Buy this with caution.

With roughly eight hours clocked in and finished with fourth route, I'd say the game offered exactly what's on the label. The game takes a silly tone with a few dark hints then and there, it doesn't get really dark until the endings.

Aside from Saeki's path, I think the endings are foreshadowed pretty often in other paths and you don't really feel blindsided with what's coming. It's best to embrace the game expecting absurdity than anything.

Level of contents (heaviest to lightest) range from Arakawa ♥♥♥♥♥♥ assault, murder, necrophilia, embalming, asphyxiation > Tamura murder, embalming, death by drowning > Aorta ♥♥♥♥♥♥ assault, blackmailing, kidnapping, mention of imprisonment > Saeki familicide, arson..

The art is adorable, yet manage to convey the darker tones later on really well. The characters' senselessness plays well with the silliness of the story and acts a decent contrast to the underlying plot. I think the most coherent character is Aorta and you can only find that out by reading the history log, which also reveals a lot about his path.

If you're looking for a greatly brainless and so-whack-it's-entertaining experience, this is the game for you. But I have to warn you to not expect happy ever after or sweet romance, because some of these endings are gut punches. The nicest ending is bittersweet at best.
