Here's my story of why Pacal is an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

  • Start the game as Germany, on Marathon, I'm in this for the long run
  • After a few turns, descover my closest civs - America, Rome and the Mayans
  • By the medieval era I've established myself as the leading force in the world
  • I have fought off an attempted invasion from America and Rome with my closest ally, the Mayans
  • The Mayans have a defence pact with me and we're helping each other flourish
  • As soon as I can cross oceans, I discover the civs on the other continant: Japan, Babylon, England and Persia
  • I'm very deep into the game at this point, I've spent many hours into it and I'm committed
  • Babylon declares war on me and it's allies (apparantly most of the civs in the game) also declare war
  • This is a total world war, me and the Mayans are very outnumbered while America and Rome stay neutral
  • It looks like we're going to lose, but the America and Rome join the frey and soak up much of the enemy forces
  • They're devastated, but we've won the war and we're ready to counterattack
  • While America and Rome recover, me and the Mayans launch an invasion across the ocean
  • We're bigger than them, they only had the upper hand due to combined numbers
  • Together, we wipe out Japan and Babylon, Persia and England are left like they left America and Rome - crippled
  • Peace is made across the map, me and the Mayans have been through a lot together and we're the closest of allies
  • Fast forward many many years of peace and I'm almost finished building the spaceship to win a science victory
  • All the pieces are in my capital, and only one more booster needs to be installed
  • The extended peace has left me ignorant and unobservant, I've focused too much on my civ only
  • The booster is right next to my capital, it will be installed the very next turn, I'm impossibly close to winning
  • "Pacal has won by science victory"
  • ...
  • I watch as his spaceship fly from his capital of Palenque
  • I'm in silence, he's pulled my long awaited victory from under me
  • ...
  • ...
  • Fast forward a couple years and his entire territory has been nuked to oblivion and filled with Giant Death Robots
  • I raise his capital to the ground with a tear in my eye as I look up in spite to the night sky

10/10, took away my soul
