Rocket league is the best game I've ever played. Simple as that, yet it isn't. I wrote a review when I had less than 200 hours in rocket league so I've come back to write another after 1500 hours because the first didn't do it justice.
As you probably know, the concept is so simple, soccer with cars. But those cars fly, now that changes everything. The skill that you can acquire for this game is amazing, and it doesn't even take someone who knows much about rocket league to look at an amazing play and know that it took incredible skill, which is such a beautiful thing about this game.
9/10 negative reviews for this game start with 'Rocket league is the best game I've ever played'(or something along those lines) why do they have a negative review then? Good question, it is usually because of things like bad matchmaking or community experiences, or criticism for the crate system. So let's address these one at a time

1. Matchmaking
I play on the US east server and I have always had a wonderful experience with matchmaking. People are likely complaining about it for one of two reasons, they occasionally have bad games and get blown out and blame matchmaking, or they are correct and constantly get matched against unfair opponents(rank wise). Matchmaking can easily vary from region to region, on a server region that does not have as many players you will likely not be properly matched due to lack of available players at your skill level. Which is unfortunate. As for the other reason, you play good games and bad games, like every sport. Because you are not consistent, consistency comes with much practice.

2. Community
Again, your experience can vary from region to region but it is far more unlikely. The community for the most part is very good, I have no trouble finding team mates or friendly opponents. But like every online game there are trolls and people out to ruin your experience to gain some kind of pleasure. But this doesn't happen often once you get past the bottom ranks especially. Most of the time (99/100 times) if you ignore them then they won't affect the game's outcome. If you provoke them or encourage them by responding then it may lead to childish bickering and finger pointing and fighting. But can be avoided easily.

3. In-Game Purchases
With it going free to play, Rocket League follows the same formula as many other popular competitive games right now. Which is a daily shop with cosmetic item plus a free and premium battle pass. If you don't want to then you don't have to spend a cent on this game and you'll not be at any disadvantage. Yet the game makes money and the prize pools stay high. It's honestly a great formula. And there's still plenty of free items to earn in the game through events and soon, tournaments.



This game gets more and more fun the better you get and if that sounds like you then buy it! Give it a try if it looks fun to you! If it's not your cup of tea then that's ok! I recommend Fallout 4 or other great games out there. Thanks.
