I strongly urge players that are new to the franchise to try out Fairy Fencer F: Advent Dark Force. If you are a returning player to the franchise, then you may end up liking this game.

Refrain Chord is definitely a nice fan service game for people who enjoy the series as most of the characters (both good and evil) are playable because they aren't fated to die this time around. The story this time feels a bit out of place and assumes the player knows each character from the returning cast. An example of this is in the beginning of the game, where most of the main group of protagonists get swapped out by Dorfa executives and Sherman is just chilling with them. The game just assumes the player knows why Sherman is so susceptible to changing his moral compass so easily.

The combat has an-okay feel to it, but I have two gripes against it. First off, Glace is in every battle you do. Some battles force you to eliminate her; while some require you to keep her alive. Glace's presence in every battle is to introduce some sort of difficulty and prolong the battle by giving enemy forces one of the following effects: Increased Attk or Def or decrease wait time or heal %HP (I could be missing one more effect).The other gripe is that the battle animations are a bit lack luster when compared to the previous entry in the franchise.

I see a lot of people complaining that the game isn't english dubbed, but nobody really talks about the few points I have mentioned.

Overall the game is just that, a nice fan service-y game. If you enjoy the series, go ahead and pick it up. Please do not expect an amazing story like you do in Advent Dark Force, but if you miss the characters and want to see more bromance or a bit of sh*tposting then you'll like this game.

All my homies hate the forest, but I go into it regardless.

To get the true ending you must play the game on hard mode. Don't know if you can swap difficulties before the final area, but to have the true ending the difficulty has to be on hard.

Absolutely love this entry into the Calvard arc. So glad that the fan patch exists, I cannot wait for Kuro no Kiseki 2 to come to PC. Van and his squad definitely have a special place in my heart.

A bit choppy during some cutscenes but definitely still playable. Happy that I caved and played.

Def a fun pick me up game with friends. It can get chaotic as hell at times especially when you have a maniac of a pilot. Also screw the ship inspector, all my homies hate the ship inspector.

Would recommend playing this if you are a group of 3 or 4.

Don't bother playing until the devs fix matchmaking. We waited 20minutes before calling it quits. Was only able to play a single game of duos and that was about it. Don't know why people are praising when you cannot even get into a match.

Remove Highpower map and Oddball game mode. Both are garbage.

Definitely worth the full priced game. Solid 9/10 rating. [Slight spoilers ahead]

Took me about 50hrs to beat the main story and a majority of the side quests. Played on normal difficulty to enjoy both combat and story in a moderate amount of time invested.

If you're new to the Tales series, this is a good gateway into the series.

Farming for mats and gald (in game currency) does get grindy mid-game, but it isn't too much of a hell loop. Though getting orange gel early game for CP is lame. All my homies hate paying for orange gel.

The quirky passive voice lines during battle and open world are refreshing to hear and change as you progress the game and character development happen.

Tons of dialogue and skits that will keep you invested. Though aside from Alphen and Shionne, the 4 other supporting characters each fulfill a niche character archetype, which is a feelsbad because they'll be remembered as the dumb person of the group or the mother of the group, etc, etc.

Imo, the ending was well done, though everything will start to make more sense during the second half of the main story.

I am definitely sad there will not be a second game for the Arise story in Tales, but nonetheless it is a game that shows that the wait from back in 2020 was worth it.
