If you like old school rpgs on the NES and SNES or PSX, you'll love this game.

I think it's important to note that I used the orchestral overhaul mod and turned off the voice acting.

Right from the start you feel a dash of nostalgia, you start in your village with your family and it's revealed you're destined for something greater. And as all old RPGs go: Tragedy occurs as soon as you leave the village.

It's cliched in all the right places, every character is different, on the surface they are the classic rpg tropes of Tough guy, vulnerable girl, tsundere girl, adventurous boy and etc. But as the adventure progresses their background and development become more complex and you understand them better.

The writing is not supposed to be Pillars of eternity or divinity 2 levels of deep. It's simple and it does it well, what you see is what you get.

The combat is what you would expect from an old school RPG, al the monsters go into the pose their sprites used to look like in the older games and it feels alive in a sense.

I don't know what wizardry they made in order to make the graphics represent how my mind would imagine the enviroments and mosters be when I was a kid playing these games, I wish they adopt this style in future anime based games.

It was a great experience that I enjoyed and will remember, that's more than I can say for most games that came out this year that I beat and moved on.

You should give this game a chance.
