A travesty on all fronts, its not enough that it runs terrible, it also makes the game look disgusting. There was no thought put behind any of the artistic changes, everything is full of ugly overexposed bright lights that manage to look far less realistic or pleasing to the eye than the original baked in lights, all assets were changed to be super reflective to justify the raytracing, reflections are constantly shimmering thanks to the upscaling.

This is a horrible showcase of the technology, makes it look like a joke that only hacks will use

A beautiful game with gorgeous scenery and setpieces, great characters and voice performances, and with more challenging gameplay puzzles than innocence. Seeing a smaller studio create such high quality games is truly endearing. But its also a game that gets way too indulged in torturing the main characters, and the writing gets needlessly cruel at times, which could definitely frustrate or even traumatize certain people.
The ending really sucks out any enjoyment you could have for 100%-ing or even replaying the game. Amicia deserved better :(

Fromsoft innovates their souls formula with a refreshing style of open world game where you are really free to explore instead of being guided throughout like most other modern open worlds. It's an enormous game that never seems to end.

All the locations are unique and gorgeous, their aging engine masked by stunning art direction. Most of the issues present in Dark Souls 3 were corrected making for a much more varied and replayable experience, with a plethora of unique items and possible build variations.

Unfortunately thanks to the bigger scope, some aspects of the game fell short compared to prior titles, most notable the boss fights aren't as well balanced and finely tuned as previously with most boss attacks consisting of randomly flailing around or executing 10 hit combos that directly lead to another combo with no breathing room. It can become really tedious especially when you have to fight the same copy pasted bosses multiple times.

Overall it's still an outstanding achievement that will hopefully lead to other developers making open worlds where you are encouraged to explore instead of handing you a checklist to grind through.
There's a reason why this was the only game in 2022 people talked about for more than a week

tfw the most fun part of the game is playing inferior versions of older games

The story is a step back from 2016, has a lot of jarring and unnecessary video-gamy elements, extra lives make the game far too easy (luckily you can avoid picking them up) and most of the secrets are pretty lazily placed.

But these issues are overshadowed by how fun the combat loop is, it forces you to use everything you have, act fast and you can always easily solve any problem you have by utilizing one of many tools at your disposal.
Hopefully we get more games with combat like this in the future.
